I got a problem.

I am away on a shindig in my honour tomorrow night in Laaaaaandan town.

I made 3 1/2 acres of Toad in the Hole

 Another fine example of a post colonial mess....British policy essentially created Magabe, any attempt to deal with him in his later years would have been seen as an attempt to return to colonial interventionist policy.  This will only happen where there are direct geopolitical or key resource interests (see Iraq)

I find the situation in Zimbabwe fascinating due to old family links there. The nutter Mugabe will struggle to be ousted out though as the corrupt bloke will just fix the elections some how even more.

My mrs cooked a roast dinner, yorkshires, roasts, parsnips, pork with crckling...lush

In return I had to do garden and vacuum, still it took me 45 mins and her about 1 and a half hours, happy days

but Im having my dad round Friday night for a birthday tea but Im not sure what to cook him - Im going to make him a cake (or possibly buy one if I decide to go swimming instead)

Its not too bad - The instructor on a Wednesday is a lady as shes not as hardcore as the guy that takes the other classes

The bit that hurts me most is the bloody saddle - OWWWWWWW

I watch them on Saturday morning sometimes when I'm on the other machines, thats about as close as I get  8)

No not at all - most of the classes are a 50/50 mix - I went with Mark last night and my dad is OBSSESSED - he goes 3-4 times a week

Its basically cycling on stationary bikes to music at various speeds!

Burns shit loads of calories!

you can adjust the resistance on the bikes and the instructor tells you when to add more resistance etc so you do hill climbs/ races etc

I've been asked if i wanted to go at the Oasis on Mondays and Wednesdays.. i might give it a bash to help shed this gut!

Sounds a bit of fun, dont think I would attempt the hill climbs or racing bit though.

   I've never really seen the point of doing " stationary" exercise, not when you can take yourself somewhere with it.

might start going further afield in the summer once there's no football at the weekends. any recommended routes?

 Presumably you must have done the ride to Marlborough?  Either on the old railway or over 4 mile clump from Barbury.  Malmesbury is another goody, head out via Hook, there's a network of cycle paths to get you through West Swindon.

 Sonic Land around Bampton has got some interesting lanes, there's a very nice route which involves getting over the Thames at Old Man's Bridge, just upstream from Radcot Lock.

 I avoid main roads, and would rather carry my bike over a couple of stiles or cycle across a field.

I'll have to look into some of them, time to get the old OSs out.

Malmesbury is nice, you can follow the old train routes, spent my youth knocking around the river, Daniels Well etc.. Bit of a way from Swindon though! I'd get a taxi  :)

Back in the early 80's we had a bit of a left field cycle club....it wasn't too organised, though we did have a weekly Sunday meet at the Town Hall, then someone would pick a pub and a route and we'd head out.  After a while you get a collection of pubs and routes and can decide which are better than others.

  In 83 Arkells brought out the Arkell's passport, whereby you could get a stamp for visiting their pubs, then when you'd collected the lot you got free beer.  We had a summer where we spent the evenings pedalling to out in the sticks Arkells houses.

  It kind of developed and spiralled off in different directions....a couple of fellas decided to cycle round the world.  We'd do holiday runs and weekends...and annual long routes, where we tried to get others people interested...the Wiltshire Cycleway becoming a favourite.

 Good way of meeting birds as well....there's something about birds sweating on bikes.   Victoria Pendleton  :P
