Title: Grand National
Post by: Luci on Monday, March 31, 2008, 10:54:10
As its this coming Saturday anyone got any hot tips?

I need to pick 5 horseys for each way bets this year for a change as opposed to my usual one and lose.

(Also, any northerners know any good pubs in Manchester/Liverpool to watch the racing/football as were up there this weekend?)

Oevils Oevils!!!

You can bet fB's on how many horses end up with a visit to the glue factory after the race.

The fences have been modified, to help prevent horses dying.  If the ground is soft it will help any fallers.

Post by: DMR on Monday, March 31, 2008, 11:37:52
I shall be piling each way on Butlers Cabin if the ground firms up over the week. If not I'm tempted by Comply or Die, heck of a good price at about 10 or 12's given he's carrying very little.

Really good field this year, Slim Pickings ran a belting race last year so he's got to be worth a shout as well. My 'tip' would be Mon Mome, I've been assured by 2 seperate people that at 33/1 you could be truly quids in. Tempting.

Agreed I usually go for something around 16-1 on the morning of the race, but as I won't be watching the race it takes away a bit of the excitement.

I've got Simon in the sweep stake, not bad apparently.

I'm looking forward to Grand National day, I take the bets for an old peoples home in my area. Normally a shilling each way (5p), great fun and I pay out on the first 6 past the post (ew bets) and if they back a horse which is over 50/1 and the nag geta round but not in the first six they get their money back.
Last year I won in total £1.15, took nearly £60s worth of bets as well (need loads of loose change), it's a really enjoyable day and a great laugh and I've been doing it for years.

Just done:

Cloudy Lane - 3.2 - £2.00 = £4.40
Simon - 4.8 - £2.00 = £7.60
Hedgehunter - 5.9 - £2.00 =£9.80
Mckelvey - 7.4 - £2.00 = £12.80

all e/w, and to win..

Hedgehunter - 30 - £4.00 = £116.00

Best £20 I've ever lost!  :D

I think it's Dinobeast who needs help. Personally I think he's putting too much into this one race. If he wins then I think he might finally be able to move on, if he loses then all that awaits him is a life of despair. Poor Dinobeast.
