Title: Car Audio advice Post by: magic8ball on Saturday, March 29, 2008, 18:48:18 I'm looking to get a CD/MP3 player put into my car.
I've been down to Halfords, and theres loads of different ones. Some made especially for iPods (which is the MP3 I have) and others which have aux input socket for an MP3 to be plugged into via the headphone jack I believe. Some of these have A CD slot that take .mp3 CDs. Do they play regular CDs aswell? Any advice on what to get would be handy. Budget is around £100 but any lower would be a bonus. With the ones that just have an aux socket you have to change the track on the iPod/mp3 player - you can't control it from the head unit. And yes, the ones that play mp3 CDs play regular CDs too. IMO, for in-car stereo you don't get much better than Sony and Blaupunkt so they'd be the two brands I would be looking at. One thing...On the unit made especially for iPods, have you still got the choice to shuffle, choose by artist, album, song etc as you would when you're using the iPod on its own? The one I got put in my car does exactly the same as an Ipod, even with the wheel. However it cost about 600 Euro and is an Alpine. The advantage of mp3 cds is that they display track info
Title: Car Audio advice Post by: Sussex on Saturday, March 29, 2008, 20:27:40 I bought a Goodmans cd player for my car about 6 months ago from Halfords that plays mp3 cds (and normal cds). It cost £49.99. Not sure about this iPod stuff though.
I would go out and get the model number, but it's raining. Hope this helps. :D Title: Car Audio advice Post by: Simon Pieman on Saturday, March 29, 2008, 20:32:05 Most of them that come with a simple aux jack is just that - you won't get control of the ipod.
Not sure about the ones with a specific ipod link because I've never taken any interest in the ipod. Title: Car Audio advice Post by: magic8ball on Saturday, March 29, 2008, 20:37:38 All very helpful fellas. I don't really want my car full of CD's, which is the main reason for getting one that I can plug the iPod into.
Now I remember that some of them actually have USB ports, so I can throw some music onto a stick and play them odd it. Good to keep the car tidy anyway. Title: Car Audio advice Post by: Simon Pieman on Saturday, March 29, 2008, 20:52:42 It's a useful feature (the socket). Also bear in mind you can store 150 mp3 tracks on a cd, so you may not need too many!
