I have a PS3 and Wii.  I guess the same argument holds for Wii v XBox.

Horses for courses. I play the Wii with my 3 year old son. He loves it, even the Mrs uses it. The novel use and simplicity of the controllers is superb. However the games are fun, but the ones I have are limited in depth. That said, looking forward to Mario Kart!

For serious multimedia and gaming the PS3 pisses over it for the extra £100 it costs (£159 wii v £259 PS3 bare bones @ shopto).  HD output for my HDTV, Blueray Disk playback (profile 2.0), Streaming music/DivX from my PC (mostly works!), Hard Disk storage, free online play that puts the Wii to shame. And those are just the obvious advantages.

So it depends on what you are going to use it for. If you get an X-Box will play games more frequently? Will you use the features it provides? Only you have the answer to that.

wii is good as a party peice, but the novetly wares off when playing alone, so if you plan on having mates round regularly then the wii is a good thing to have, if not got for the xbox/ps3

If I had a spare £300 - £400 I'd be sorely tempted by a PS3 with the forthcoming GTA and Gran Turismo games

The Wii is good for family fun but if you are serius about gaming, especially online game then you have to go with the Xbox 360.

The 360 is a really good console. Some fantastic games it has to be said. It's gone down in price recently as well so it's worth it.

Unless you're going to have loads of mates around for big party fun then get a wii, If its mainly for solo play then get a 360, if you're more interested in media hub with a blu-ray player then get a PS3. Or something.

Problem with Light Gun games is that there are/were never enough good ones. Sole reason I kept my playstation 1 is for Point Blank though.

I have just ordered Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for my PS3, can't wait!

The PS3 really is an awesome machine and personally I think it's streets ahead of the Xbox and Wii.

The Blu Ray playback is simply stunning, as is the standard DVD playback because the PS3 has a built in upscaler.

Wii is good for parties and a laugh with your mates but the PS3 is more advanced.

GT5 looks really good. Shame it's not on the 360. That's one of the few games that the PS3 has an advantage on. Mind you GTA is on both formats this time.

GTA 4 is out next week isn't it?

I still play Vice City and San Andreas on my PS2.

GTA is a classic and i'm glad there will be a 360 version this time round. It will be a top class game on the PS3 and 360 no doubt. Looking forward to it.

mario cart on the snes is one of the all time greats for sure.but so are the gta games.
although totally different games i think i agree with dv, as it was the best game on the snes by a mile.its debateable if the gta series were the ps2's best.

Agree about GTA, bought a PS2 just for the those games.  Should I get the next generation games boxes it'll be for the next GTA game.

GTA is an action game where you explore a city. Mario Kart is a cartoon style racing game. 2 completely different games.

Personally I prefer my racing games to be realistic like Gran Turismo (PS3 trumps Wii again)  :wink:

I don't mind the £40 charge. You simply cannot compare Xbox Live with Sony's Netplay. This is one area where the Xbox completely mullers the PS3.

Think I'm going to get a PS2 whenever I'm next employed.

I got given a Game Cube a while back - it's still in the plastic bag my work mate put it in.

I've already got a gamecube. Good times. Metroid Prime is mint, as are a few other games.

I don't really have a problem with being a generation or two behind. PS2 would be good as there's a fuck load of good games I haven't played. To be honest there's isn't that much which interests me on the PS3 or 360 yet. Wouldn't mind giving Bioshock and Space Giraffe a spin on the 360, and LittleBigPlanet on the PS3 looks like an interesting idea, but not really enough for me to actually want one.

Last console I owned and played constantly was the N64 - Ah, Goldeneye was probably the reason behind my mediocre GCSE's.

I've got an N64 kicking about too. With Goldeneye. Only one controller though. Single player hasn't held up too well over the years.

Really? Darn - I remember conquering 007 Agent and being, just so happy (then furious with the anti-climax conclusion) - multi-player was just amazing though.

Doesn't really matter tbh. Just look at the games as some are slighty different for each one. But if you're not bothered about exclusives then go for any of them. The PS3 is known to be more reliable but the 360 is cheaper. Saying that the PS3 isn't much more than the 360 now. For Blu-Ray it might be worth it. The PS3 is also expected to last at least the next 4 years whereas MS are rumoured to be going with a "720" by 2010 so might be morth paying the extra for the PS3.

Sorry for the bumpage, but I bought a Wii on Saturday and I think it's just as good as my Xbox. I now just consider my Xbox for serious gameplay and the Wii for a bit of fun.

I got the Wii, Rayman 2, Super Mario Galaxy and Big Beach Sports for £199. Been playing it all weekend and my arm is fucking killing me today.

The PS3 is in some ways ahead of it's time. A profile 2.0 Blu Ray spinner and HD gaming machine. It looks sexy too.

Both pretty much the same. 360 is slightly cheaper but not as reliable. There is the advantage of Blu Ray with the PS3 but both will support HD gaming anyway.

Anyway, has anyone bought Fifa 09 on the Wii? Wondered how it compared to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. I would imagine the graphics aren't as good being standard definition ?

I had a word with my mate about it, I dont see why the graphics would be worse but it seems that Fifa 09 on the Wii doesnt have the 'be a pro' mode that the PS3 and Xbox has and it doesnt seem worth getting without that.

Can you advise on any games for the Wii for a 10 year old boy? My work colleague has just bought one for his son.

If it's for kids then you can get the Sonic collection on Gamecube for less than £10 probably and it's got all the Sonic games on. Actually that's quite good for adults as well. Also if you can get it hooked up to the net then you can buy old school games 8)  I haven't managed to do that yet though.

You will probably want to get a different controller for that though.
