Title: Best Job / Worst Job
Post by: stfctownenda on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, 17:27:36
Recently in the pub on a Friday night me and my mates were discussing about which was our best or worst jobs we have ever done so I figured I would open this up to everyone and see what you guys have done in your careers? (Obviously we may know DV's worst job after recent threads).

My worst job was with the Recycling Centre down bottom of Blunsdon Hill it was during college and basically every day lorrys would dump loads of old paper, newspapers and magazines and we would have to put them into the correct bins for recycling.  It was often wet and disgusting, not a fun job.

It will sound cliched but my best job is my current one as I am in recruitment and enjoy working with people and seem to be doing quite good at my job.

My worst job is the one that I currently have, and for so so so so many reasons.

I have had some very very good jobs in the past though, yet I am hoping for a positive reply tomorrow from an interview for a job that could/should turn out to be the best yet.

Haha my worst job was actually also at the same recycling place, I only worked there for a couple of hours though before telling them there's no way I'm doing this any more but  that job was really shit.  I had to walk around in a muddy, freezing cold field making sure there was no rubbish on the ground. Wouldn't have worked there at all if the agency had told me what the job actually was.

Worst job: Web developer at Zone 1 Media. I've worked as a baler at ASDA and also as a multi-drop delivery driver whilst at University but working for Chris Rees was so awful it's difficult to put into a sentence that doesn't contain the words "he's a fucking shit".

Best job: Homebase, generally dossing about on the shop floor, mingling with tasty female students, cutting boards up and selling shower curtains.

:Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick: Brilliant I stuck it out for a few weeks to get some money but it was truly awful, looking back makes me so glad it was only a college job.

One of the best jobs I had, was working for IBM in Havant.

It was one massive open plan office.....the workers were encouraged to design their own bit of work space, to put the furniture etc how they wanted it.   This was where I came in as part of a crack squad of furniture movers....we'd get a little map then, set the furniture up as required, betwen jobs we had a bit of a place in the bowels of the building where we could doss until needed by the often tasty birds who worked there.

Sometimes we had other odd jobs to do...but generally could avoid doing anything too strenuous.  Fucking ace canteen too.

Technically speaking I have had worse jobs than my current job though:

St Ivel consisted of 8 hr's a day sticking lids on yoghurt pots...... Not much more to be said about that really.

I worked for some sort of cardboard construction company once, to be honest putting the Easter Egg display boxes together was sort of comfortably numbing but my co-workers, whom where mostly "lifers" made me want to run home, except for one nice old chap who came out of retirement because he wanted to get out of the house. Nice bloke he was, Eric his name was and I still remember that after all these years.

I have also worked in some sort of wharehouse in which my job description was to take a c.d. and insert it into a sleeve. and again, and again, and again.... I think you get my drift.
The saving grace of the job was that most of the workforce was made up of young temps like myself who couldn't give a monkeys about the job, just like myself. And we soon discovered that C.D's make good frisbeys, or more importantly surprisingly painful and accurate weapons (With practice).

Oddly enough.....I like my current job, much more than I ever did being a computer monkey at Nationwide

The Office work is a piece of piss, I generally like the people I work with (and I dont like alot of people!!) and the coaching for the most (unless the kids are little bastards!) is great.

My boss however is the biggest cunt to walk the planet......if he wasnt my boss. I'd love it.....

you're evidently not a proper slacker then. plenty of people get away with it, just fake a disability.

I really want to qualify, earn £10k more than I will in practice once I've qualified and do the same job 9-5 every day - piss easy. It's living the dream.

I have to think too much in my current job.

I haven't had loads of jobs being one of the younger members, only the usual supermarket stuff prior to my current (and first) full tiem job.

Morrisons was absolutely terrible, my manger was a total bitch and I eventually got the sack for a) my attitude and b) me and my mate would take each others clocking in cards and swipe each other in,, when we were skiving off.

Worst: Cold calling and selling unbundled telephone billing services in Oz while backpacking.  The place was a farce the manager was a joke and the supervisor spent most of the day with her legs on her desk and her gash display and it wasn’t an appealing gash either.  The guy who turned up for the interview with me admitted on our first day he was “smacked up” and we both lasted half a day before going for a beer or nine.

Best: Is difficult because aside from the above I’ve always landed on my feet work wise.  I would probably say my existing one has to be the winner.  I get to play with technology most people have never heard off and I have freedom to wheel and deal and generate new revenue for the business where there is a niche in the market.
