I know nothing about any of my Fathers side (Long story). But from my Mothers side. My Nan is English and My Grandad was a Scot (Glasweigan) who served in the Navy. His family name is Carnan, which apparently was change from Kiernan, an Irish name because the Kiernan's escaped to Scotland during the great potato famine and then changed their name to Carnan so as not to arouse suspicion. I also know that one of my ancestors was a tax collector, he wasn't very good at his job though because he had a busted leg from some war incident. The thing is that he would collect the money from the wifes, but as soon as the husband found out they would catch up with him and get the money back. He was quite a celeb apparently. Anyway I was born and bred in Swindon, I dont even know my biological fathers name and I havent spoken to my mum in about 2 years. It's not all bad though as I have the greatest Nan in the world ever :D :D :D . Title: So ware are you Post by: Samdy Gray on Monday, March 17, 2008, 21:42:43 AFAIK, I'm 100% English. My nan traced our family tree (on my dad's side) back about 10 generations.
My Mum was born in Swindon, my Dad in Hong Kong (to English parents serving in the forces). Mum's family have always lived in Wiltshire and my Dad's faimly hail from Alton in Hampshire. Nothing interesting with the grand-parents, but it get's interesting with the great-grand-parents. My great-grandfather (on my Dad's side, his Dad's Dad) topped himself because he was about to be conscripted into the army. He put a pillow in the oven, head in and turned the gas on. One of my other great-grandfathers (again on my Dad's side, but his Mum's Dad) was on the Lusitania when it sank. Title: So ware are you Post by: flammableBen on Monday, March 17, 2008, 21:43:09 Grandad on my mum's side was Irish. He was also a catholic priest, who didn't turn up to do a service one Sunday and legged it off to marry my Gran.
Madness. Title: So ware are you Post by: axs on Monday, March 17, 2008, 21:57:20 my grandad on my mum's side was an Irish tea importer (as in an Irish man who imported tea, not a man who imported Irish tea) in London and played for London Irish rugby for a while. Few Scots, rest are English.
