Discuss. Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: JPC82 on Monday, March 17, 2008, 15:53:32 happy with him so far, although he has had as many poor games as good games
Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: McLovin on Monday, March 17, 2008, 15:55:28 He's achieving a better standard of crossing more consistently now, which is nice!
Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: jayohaitchenn on Monday, March 17, 2008, 15:56:29 He is ace. fact.
It's so good to have a proper showboater in the team. I go to football to be entertained and he can't fail to entertain. He is definately capable at a higher level as well. Hopefully big Barry Corr can get fit and stay fit and put a few of them crosses in the onion bag. Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: STFC_Chris on Monday, March 17, 2008, 15:57:17 His showboating at Leyton Orient was brilliant to watch, not only that but he got a decent cross in at the end of it as well. If we can hang on to him and sign Timlin permanently in the summer we'll have a great midfield.
Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: jayohaitchenn on Monday, March 17, 2008, 15:58:16 and clone little Anthony, but make him right-footed.
Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: Colin Todd on Monday, March 17, 2008, 16:06:16 Really warming to him. Hes been fucking brilliant in the last 2 home games. Just hope he keeps it up, and as jayhohennnn said, Barry Corr will love his crosses.
He was that good on saturday that he looked like he'd got lost on the way to a premiership ground and ended up playing for us. Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: Batch on Monday, March 17, 2008, 16:26:59 His dancin' feet would certainly give Michael Flatley a run for his money.
He has been brilliant for the last few games, not so much the first few (Cheltenham excluded). In all honesty, if he can play like he did Saturday for 50% of the time I'd be very, very, happy. It's going to get tougher when teams realise he is our outlet and stick 2 men on him. We'll see if he can take the piss out them both. We just need to find ways round that, for example making sure he is well supported whenever he's got it out wide. Doubling up on him just leaves somebody else free for us to pick out.He has been brilliant for the last few games, not so much the first few (Cheltenham excluded). Sounds like he didn't do too well when he first joined but he was great at Orient and seems to be improving all the time Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: Batch on Monday, March 17, 2008, 16:38:41 R4E - Correct, but I guess he wasn't match fit when he joined. Time will tell if it was just that or symptomatic of lumpy form.
He's been fantastic the last few though. His performance at Orient was good, but the end product wasn't quite there. Saturdays performance was much, much better. Some great crosses in. Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: DV on Monday, March 17, 2008, 16:44:46 can you imagine Sam Parkin 2003 on the end of those crosses.
Goals galore Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: Colin Todd on Monday, March 17, 2008, 16:51:04 Quote from: "DV" can you imagine Sam Parkin 2003 on the end of those crosses. Goals galore True. Fallon would do a job on them as well ( i pissed myself when I found out he scored both goals at Aston gate on sat) Although I've just said I'd start blair and cox again v Brighton on another thread. As long as we keep it on the deck again. Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: janaage on Monday, March 17, 2008, 16:55:36 Thing that works at the moment is if Macca gets a couple of fella's marking him Comminges comes up to support, those two have linked up really well of late, the support of Miguel may suit his game better than Vincent being at left back.
This is a shocker from me (as I have always 100% supported the importance of JV in the 1st team) but I wouldn't recall Vincent when fit, Miguel and smith at full backs has been a joy to watch. Quite right about the full backs... but I'd give Aljofree the old heave-ho to accomodate JV, who looks a better centre half than he does left back. I would have agreed with you before about Vincent, but now agree that perhaps he shouldnt play after all. If we are going to play a passing game then Vincent shouldnt be anywhere near the picth for obvious (hoof!) reasons Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: Reg Smeeton on Monday, March 17, 2008, 17:03:16 Quote from: "Colin Todd" Quote from: "DV" can you imagine Sam Parkin 2003 on the end of those crosses. Im in the same boat. Always thought Vincent played an important role within the team and when he was missing earlier on in the season we clearly missed him. Dont think we have this time around.....on that note though OFFER COMMINGES A NEW CONTRACT NOW!!! Although despite Aljo looking dodgy at the back, I did enjoy a couple of his attacks late on, a few one two's from our centre half. Ifil was truely immense, strong, calm on the ball. My God this optimism should have worn off by now, but it's still here, burning brightly. Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, March 17, 2008, 17:51:39 i've not been aljofrees biggest fan, but he's been really good in recent weeks, and made some great tackles on saturday. Would be harsh to dro phim imo

Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: blinkpip on Monday, March 17, 2008, 17:51:39 Plays exactly like Shawn Wright Phillips but with better crossing. He has excellent talent and I expect watofrd got at least 50% sell on clause.

Would be harsh to dro phim imo I think he's been dodgy for the past month or so personally and Saturday the second goal was down to him losing his man I'm guessing as he seemed to spend the last 10 minutes walking around with his hands on his head which isn't great leadership from the captain really. If we had any options I would leave him out for a while to have a rest or something.....maybe age and a long season has caught up with him. Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: lebowski on Monday, March 17, 2008, 18:06:47 McNamee is better when he's got a full back willing to overlap, and whose distribution stretches beyond the high punt down the line.
So, anyone other than Vincent. Certainly no more than vincenté Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: lebowski on Monday, March 17, 2008, 18:10:45 Maybe not overlap as such, but he certainly spent a decent amount of time in the Carlisle half offering options.
One thing I do question though is when defending corners I'd feel more comfortable with Cox on the post and McNamee upfield. We had it the other way around on Saturday. Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: sonic youth on Monday, March 17, 2008, 19:05:23 i've only seen macnamee have a decent game once and that was against huddersfield who were dogshit.
i still don't like vincent and he can't even hoof the ball properly let alone pass it Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: janaage on Monday, March 17, 2008, 19:19:22 Hudders, Leyton O and Carlisle, 3 out of three, I've not seen him play crap yet!
Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, March 17, 2008, 20:41:17 The games he didn't play so well he had 2 men marking him out, as others have suggested may happen in the future. This came about because every time Vincent got the ball the defending team expected the ball to be punted down the left, and there wasn't a free man because both our centre mids didn't offer any threat going forward.
Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: janaage on Monday, March 17, 2008, 21:06:44 Exactly Si so if he has two men on him and Miguel runs at their defence what are they gonna do bring another man over, creating room in the middle. Vincent like others have said wouldn't naturally want to bring the ball forward in the same style allowing the two men to sit deeper covering MacNamee.
Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, 00:26:50 Don't forget Cheltenham either. He was class against them as well.
Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: Run_the_bath on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, 21:04:06 i think comminges and mcgovern linked up well on the right and i would love to see comminges do the same sort of overlapping on the left, but perhaps hes not as comfortable playing on the left atm but maybe give it time. if he does start overlapping macca it could be awesome!
i thought mcnamee was shit at first and forced off the ball way too easily, but now he seems to have settled down and looks awesome! i love the way his crosses look like they are going out then swing in at the end ! Title: Anthony McNamee Post by: suttonred on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, 21:48:05 Pity none of our strikers can read them and get on the end! hopefully that will come with playing together more.
