Title: Christian Roberts Post by: Arriba on Saturday, March 8, 2008, 23:51:42 how many good games has he had in his time here?
imo two hands to count them tops. could be such a good player but lets himself down so to often. Title: Christian Roberts Post by: JPC82 on Saturday, March 8, 2008, 23:55:07 he shows glimpses arriba, he has ability but he simply cant apply it every week, if he could he wouldnt be at swindon, its that simple, we have him for those glimpses, at luton for example 1-0 win, picks it up skins a few players and buries it, brilliant, yet u know he will have 5 shit games before he does summat good again
Title: Christian Roberts Post by: Arriba on Saturday, March 8, 2008, 23:59:37 i cant argue with that jpc82. nor have i
Title: Christian Roberts Post by: STFCBIKER on Sunday, March 9, 2008, 00:03:53 Not a great loss really, cant see him being here next season.
Title: Christian Roberts Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, March 9, 2008, 00:08:53 I've noticed quite a few people saying 'if he could do it every week he wouldn't be here' recently. In my opinion this sort of talk is a load of rubbish in a lot of players cases. Few are that good, even on their good days.
Title: Christian Roberts Post by: Arriba on Sunday, March 9, 2008, 00:09:36 roberts is though imo

He's lost that extra bit from his younger days that made him a bit special.
Title: Christian Roberts Post by: STFCBIKER on Sunday, March 9, 2008, 00:13:47 But he cant play at his best week in week out, thats why he plays for us i guess.
This is as good as he is gonna get unfotunately. Title: Christian Roberts Post by: yeo on Sunday, March 9, 2008, 00:24:28 with only a couple of months of the season and no real chance of the playoffs better to get any niggles sorted now i reckon.

He's lost that extra bit from his younger days that made him a bit special. I disagree a bit. I don't think he can still put in full 90mins special performances, but he's still worth it if he can pull it off 20mins in a game. Although, he is getting on a bit, and with ComeOnMingTheMerciless filling more of a wing-back role on the right, there is less of need for a Robert's style winger. If he's coming off the bench more then that doesn't really matter that much. When he pulls off one of his special days in the last 20 mins it doesn't really matter which attacking role he's playing. Be it Macbeth or Batman. Title: Christian Roberts Post by: ronnie21 on Sunday, March 9, 2008, 10:22:47 He was spotted the other lunchtime in the bar at the GW. Sorry to disappoint you all - he was apparently drinking coffee!!

Be it Macbeth or Batman. He lost it when he got injured the first time this season but decided to play through it so he could have the op in the close season. Only that didn't work, it made things worse from the sound of it. Every season there is something that goes wrong. Can't help but think that's just the way it will always be, hence my argument. Don't get me wrong I think he's a good player and I like him in the team (especially as I dislike McGovern), but I think there will always be something to limit him, even when he's playing that 'special' 20 minutes. Title: Christian Roberts Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, March 9, 2008, 11:32:14 And the original point I was making is - do we have to settle for players like that simply because we are Swindon Town?
What was the point of paying £200k for Cox? That was the most ambitious thing we have done in a long time. We need to show more ambition with who we target (don't mean paying transfer fees necessarily) if we want to go up. Perhaps even get some slightly worse but extremely consistent performers to balance things up. Title: Christian Roberts Post by: Frigby Daser on Sunday, March 9, 2008, 20:51:11 there's always a player the fans get on the back of - in the recent past it's been Duke, Robinson etc - if it's Christian roberts now, then it shows the squad has improved big time
Title: Christian Roberts Post by: leefer on Monday, March 10, 2008, 22:27:04 Agreed MOONRAKER....even keeper Smith who was fantastic last year is getting abuse.
Title: Christian Roberts Post by: Tails on Monday, March 10, 2008, 22:41:01 That's because unfortunately a few of our fans are utter morons.
I take this is stfc as pretty good evidence of this! Title: Christian Roberts Post by: JPC82 on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, 14:58:49 SHOCK! i was right about the injury 8)

Im under the impression the fans who boo are not giving smith abuse but booing Malpas decision .Title: Christian Roberts Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, 15:07:41 Don't agree with booing players, but when players aren't doing very well then fans have every right to voice their opinions. I don't care how someone played last season. That past form is not going to do us any good in the present.

Everyone will forever have their favourites regardless of actually how good they are. I personally think Brez is a different class to Smith when on his day. Really we should consider Football as a form sport and your only as good as your last game. Sadly we all love a bit of history. That's what makes us British. Sadly also conincides with us lacking in terms of world class sporting performers. Title: Christian Roberts Post by: DV on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, 19:47:39 does this mean Robbo could have played his last game for Swindon?
