Title: Coaching
Post by: Power to people on Friday, February 29, 2008, 08:42:06
How is the coaching handled these days, could this be down to our recent slight slump ?

Under Sturrock we had experienced coaches, Blackley that coached the defenders and the defence certainly looked tight, and then Summerfield looking after the others with Sturrock occaisonaly (sp ?) joining in or he would be on the sidelines watching the players.

Matchdays Sturrock would always leave Blackley in the stands to watch the game from a different prospective and at times he also watched from the stands.

Now we have Byrne who's main experience has been with the youth's or college football and Williams who has no coaching experience, and Malpas who's experience is as a coach with a good reputation but has to act as the manager now.

Matchday's we seem to have all 3 at times shouting instructions from the sidelines and no one in the stands to analyse the game for more of an overview.

I wonder if Malpas could do with an experienced coach alongside.

And who produced some good results when they were in caretaker charge.

Am I the only one who's fed up of people constantly looking back to the Sturrock era with rose-tinted spectacles? We are now what we were when Sturrock was in charge - an inconsistent mid-table side.

Wasn't a critisism just an observation - I'm firmly in the camp of giving Malpas time

Everyone is entitled to a chance for gods sake!

As we have all said at some point, it isn't his team. Judge him next term not this one.

If we end up mid table thats great!! At least we exist, which is more than we could have hoped for a few weeks ago.

When anyone starts a job they have a probationary period to work, usually 3 months. People were on his back after 3 weeks....

Those asking for his head really do have their heads up their backsides. Get real!!

All this anti MM is getting repetative and very, very boring!!!!

actually said pretty much the same thing to Tails on Saturday after the game.

....and pauld of course we look back on the Sturrock era with positivity because he was taking us places. Sure this season with Sturrock we were a mid table side and under Malpas we still are.....but next season Sturrock would have had us chasing the play offs....not convinced Malpas will.

I don't think you can accuse Malpas of being a bad coach, nor Byrne.

If mistakes are made so what?

Why do so many people expect instant success?

I blame the Smash generation, so impatient.
