Part of me thinks this will be a dull meh probably a draw game, but another part says convincing 4-1 victory.

I don't like the optimistic part and I'm going to have to kill it using aggressive meditation techniques.

I think 1 - 0 Town, Paynter. But there's also the part of me that thinks we could go out and stuff them  :? To be fair, I think that most weeks though.

Clayton Ince will score after a mega long goal kick which will hit the crossbar, then hit the back of Brezovans head and go in.

Even so, it was Forest! and the strikers are equally to blame really. Seems a bit harsh to me, but nevermind.

At least it's still only 0-1.

Absolute shite - just got back...

No passion at all -- if between them they had shown the passion that Mooney managed on his own they would have won !

Woeful midfield - neither Cock or Easton looked up for it - JP was pretty crap and if Mcnamee had given the ball away any more than he did walsall would have fucking signed him !

They didn't look great - but any ball through the middle or over the top was undoing us - both Ifil and Aljofree looked slow and uninterested....

Malpas now definately looks suspect - Brez would have saved the first goal (free kick) - defence did not look comfortable with Smith in goal......

How did he take off Miguel - only player on the pitch in a red shirt that looked like he might cause Walsall some problems !

Malpass now on the radio - slagging off the team for not performing - well fuck me who put the players on the pitch ?!?!?!

Who sat there at half time and did not manage to pick the players up and lead them on ??

I am fucked off big style - Was going to Oldham on Tuesday but fuck that - not a chance now !

Comminges was sent off because he was looking dead set on getting sent off.

Cox was lucky not to get send off.

I don't really want to talk about that, it was so bad, but it was summed up by a long ball to (5'2") McNamee. Stupid.

Title: Swindon V Walsall Matchday Thingy.
Post by: DV on Saturday, February 23, 2008, 17:31:05
worst we've played in about 2 years....

the defence was awful and literally parted and let Walsall through for their goals.

Smith did well to save two of the original shots...but the re-bounds both went to Walsall players with acres of space to tap it in. Not a town player within 10 yards of them.

First goal was so many errors, letting the ball bounce, then needlessly diving in.

We didnt challenge enough when the ball was in the air and we didnt win enough second balls.

Shouting at Paynter (glad he answered back) when he was one of the only ones making an effort and screaming at Ashikodi when he'd literally been on the pitch for 2 minutes and hadn't hand chance to do anything.

I wish you people if you;re on here would just fuck off elsewhere as we don't need morons like you.  That absolutely wound me up a treat today.

I am sorry, but I have given Malpass enough of my patience since he was appointed.

But if thats the sort of shite that he is going to dish out on a weekly basis then I'll keep my money in my pocket.

It's ok him coming out and slagging off the players but

he did not motivate them

his starting 11 was suspect to say the least

he could not put it right at half time

his changes were clueless

Ashikodi is not a professional footballer

Macnamee can only play with the ball at his feet so dont hoof balls in the air to him

Agreed on Town End idiots, "You don't know what you're doing" When he brought a striker on while we were 2-0 down? Genius guys. Less songs about Mooney as well, support the team.

On the bright side, Walsall's biggest attendance in their 20 year history is 10k for a game  not involving Walsall. Priceless.

Fuck me that was a shit performance. Where has the passion, belief and solidity gone? Unbelievable.

I think it's safe to say the honeymoon period is over and maybe it is a bit knee jerk, but Malpas is under pressure already. Certainly didn't hear too many positives about him from the Town End faithful.

I guess the playoffs were always unlikely, so this game just resets the chance to NIL.

Not going to Oldham, but I can guarantee the fuckers will be up for our mid table clash with Leeds.

ince could have gone off for a cup of tea in the town end and still kept a clean sheet. we were absolutely crap today true relegation performance. fair enough to blame the players but when we were banging it long in the first half with the wind at our backs it was obvious it wasn't working and nobody took responsibility for it they  just didnt seem to have a clue how to change the way they were easily being stopped by walsall.

we've got the spotty teens in the Nationwide chanting loyal supporters when ever people leave early, despite the fact that I see the large majority and no away games what so ever.

When the 3rd went it people infront of me started chanting 'you dont know what your doing' and my response was

Football isnt like other occupations though is it. For starters its a sport and its competitive.

The players should want to go out and win every game, they should feel that way regardless of who they are playing, who the manager is, where they are playing or how much they are earning.

You shouldnt need someone else to motivate you when your up against competition, because you should always want to succeed.

So, in that case the poor performance today isnt soley down to Malpas' motivational skills then.

The players werent up for it enough and thats their fault.

Malpas certainly should have kicked them all square in the balls at half time....but if you cant motivate yourself then its difficult for someone else to do it.

to put it mildly if its about motivation and the management then malpas could get man united relegated. how can he blame the players he sounds to much like macmahon blaming the players under sturrock we would have battered walsall in the 2nd half today or at least put up a fight.

I agree - however I personally think the players look shakey playing for him - exactly like the Andy King dys, where he used to publicily slate the players. Jerel Ifil and Hasney were immense at the beginning of the season, but lately have looked a wee bit shakey at times.

I listened to the Malpas interview myself, with the intent of knowing wether or not he will blame the players. And I seem to remember him using the words "We" and "Myself", and he even appeared to question whether ot not it was his fault.

I also used to have an intense dislike for David Byrne for the way that he used to put the blame solely on the players but I think that most would agree that he won us over in the end.

I agree with D.V. to a degree that a pro footballer playing in a pro match should be enough motivation in itself.

As Malpas said, if we go to Oldham, play well and get a result then it can be put down to a bad day at the office. But too many performances where the players dont seem to know what their job is then the blame will have to lay with the manager surely. It doesn't matter if you are managing a football team, an office or a fucking oil rig the if the players/staff turn up not knowing what is expected of them then there is a problem.

My cup is half full.

Why are people haveing a go at Malpas? The players always do this. It's not MM's fault. They decide what games they can be bothered to put the effort and sadly it has always been that way with STFC for the last 6 or 7 years.

We showed no urgency at all which was a great shame. Our problems lie in the midfield. Easton and Peacock were non existant today and they just don't create anything. It doesn't help when both your wide men have a piss poor shocker either. I don't understand why people got so pissed off at the decision to take Miguel off? He was probably going to get sent off and it wasn't like we had any other options was it? I'm sorry but you have to put more men forward and try and change things to get back in the game and if that means taking your best player off you do it. That is exactly what MM did.

2 defeats in a row but it happens in football. We won't go down which is all i care about anyway tbh after all the shite before Christmas.

Malpas didn't have a clue today. His tactics were just utter shit. He never looked like wanting the players to stop the hoof ball game even when it was clearly not working. He blatantly can't motivate the players.

The one thing that pisses me off is he says the same old shit in the paper about "working on things on the training ground" I'd like to actually see their training sessions because they must be pretty shit.

Malpas reminds me of Andy King so much with his tactics and substitutions, they completely baffle me. I think Malpas has a lot of learning to do still tbh.

:D just pisses me off the hypocrisy. one minute its "ooh were new in this division, lets settle for consolidation", then its "aaaah we're going out of business, lets make sure we still ahve a club" then its " wooo we have new owners and are going to splash the cash, lets go for the title" we play badly and suddenly everythings shit. grrrrr

dave mate you generally speak alot of sense but you can fuck right off here kiddo, a fucking hammering at home against some pissy bunch of midland inbreds that were in the same league as us last year, that's totally and utterly unacceptable, they deserve all the flak they take after todays result.

lets be honest here, its not as if Walsall are doing badly this season. In the play offs for a reason

er thanks, i think  :D

ive been thread digging, and just found this beauty: http://www.thetownend.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21715&highlight=pre+season

Seems as if the popular consensus is mid table, which we are on course for. Considering the shite we've been through this season the predictions were pretty much spot on. Interesting quote from mystic tails:

Quote from: "tails"

We'll do a standard Swindon I think..

1) Start - half decent.
2) Have a terrible October/November
3) Go on a crazy unbeaten run at the start of the year.
4) Followed by a crazy winless run.
5) Indifferent end.

the first three have hapenned. We're half way through the fourth, just need the fifth now!

As long as he learns this season, and we have a tilt next year, that's fine with me, think everyone myself included thought money=play offs and it's been proved a hundred times you have to build to it. If however there has been no improvement come October, then that will be the time to think about change

Spot on. Lets see what Malpas can do with pre season training and a transfer window. October would be a good time to review.

worst we've played in about 2 years....

the defence was awful and literally parted and let Walsall through for their goals.

Wasn't there today-was it really worse than Brighton?

Yup, as far as I remember Brighton at least had to work for their goals and have some creative input.

No doubt, we are way better than todays shit performance against Wallsal suggests, so I'm not going to get too lairy. Talk of reaching the playoffs was always bollocks. Too many gaps in midfield and an inconsistent / non existant front line usually= either a relegation season or a boring mid table finish. We'll end up fizzling out in a boring mid table position I think, which is progress of a sort.

Malpas worries me. I think he could potentially do a good job for us - Fitton must have seen something in him to give him the chance to manage us - but he's not done anything to endear himself yet. I get the impression that most are indifferent to him so far, hence the absence of Malpas chants?

He got the job while Byrne and Williams were doing well in temporary charge, so he was up against it from the off. I expected his appointment to move us up a level though and i'm still waiting.

In the big scheme of things he's had no time to do anything meaningful, so I'm not going to slaughter him. He's going to have to win over the doubters soon though.

He could start by insisting that ALL first team squad players stay at the ground to watch matches, regardless of whether they are injured, suspended or dropped. I've lost count of watching non-playing squad players walking away from the ground before kick off on match days this season. If they don't give enough of a fuck to hang around to watch their own team mates play, what message does that send out to the players that are picked, let alone the fans?

Probably the worst Town performance for a very long time IMHO.  Players (with the exception of Paynter and Minge) looked about 5 yards off the pace.

Walsall closed us down and exposed our lack of control of the football to feet i.e. McGovern, Roberts, McNamee...........well, when the ball wasn't flying over their heads and both Paynter and Cox were challenging for the same ball.  Hoofball must be all the rage in Wanborough these days....

Defense has gone from being solid to being v. shaky indeed.  Summed up by the 3rd goal, where Ifil misjudged the path completely and then seemed to be jogging back to tackle, rather than the speed that we know he has.

Best tackle of the day....? Cox on Holmes in open play, on our 6 yard line FFS.

I have never left a Town Game early before today but felt cheated by a team who really did not try.

To the collective team today....hope I don't see anything like that again in a very, fucking long time.....

I thought McNamee's crosses were the one or two times in the game we looked threatening. Some of his control was poor, but long balls to 5' players if never going to be a good idea.

McNamee is 5 foot 6 ins and was given his professional debut by Gianluca Vialli in 2002.

Paynter and Comminges were our two best players, really looked up for the game. Cox did as well, but he had an off day.

The freekick was a poor one to give away and Smith was nowhere near it. Little wonder when he's stood behind the wall, thus not being able to see.

Defensively we were poor. We need to work on this in training it seems. I'm going to specifically highlight Jamie Vincent, perhaps unfairly but HE IS FUCKING SHIT. I don't care about his 'organisational skills' or 'vocal ability' where the fuck have they been since his return? About one or two games he had an impact, but has since been shit. Is he physically not able to play a ball which is not a hopeful punt down the line? He doesn't even look to see what's outside on the left half the time. Once all game I saw him play a pass to the left which wasn't a hoof. McNamee was free more than once. Comminges looked good though and it is also disappointing that we play the ball to Vincent most of the time and not down the right. Why?

Midfield, again poor. Wingers had an off day, McNamee managed to put in a few decent crosses though. Centre midfield is a worry. I personally would have taken Peacock off and put Pook on around the hour mark, because they were never in the game and went missing half the time. McGovern is another player that I don't understand why he is rated so highly. A player who can't tackle, cant run and rarely is able to put in a delivery. McNamee looks a bit lightweight compared to Zaaboub. At least Sofi dives and wins free kicks

Strikers worked hard, especially given the fact the rest of the team was so shit. I thought Cox tried but he had a bad day at the office. More of a fact that his touches and passes didn't come off more than anything. Paynter played really well and was unlucky to be so poorly supported.

We need to work on the basics because we can't seem to get this right. Our style of football under Malpas has not changed and neither has our inconsistency. I'm not going to jump on the anti-Malpas bandwagon because I think we were limited as a team before he took over. I do want him to get the players doing the basics right though. This is something Wise paid proper attention to and something that perhaps Sturrock took a little more for granted.

Pretty much echo Si's comments. I hope they were in for training today, some of them need to be dropped as well.

Exactly. Monday you will hear 'bad day at the office', 'some of us didn't play well and need to perform on Tuesday', blah blah blah... fucking cut thie shit and do it cos I'm fucked off with listening to their shit when they dish out the crap they did this weekend.  If i performed like that at work, I would be fired.

All this 'we shall be working on hard on the training ground', well as far as I see it, since Malpas has been working hard on the training ground it looks like th players havent trained for months and don't even know each other.  It took us 90 mintues to get a shoit on target, following on from Forest when we had er nil shots in target.

I'm hardly inspired by Malpas' new arrivals.  If this is anything to go by, then we're in for a cracking summer. He can't have too many contacts in the English game??? Give him til the end of the season, but if they are goin to dish that crap out over the next few games, I think he should be fired.  Not sure Fitton would be the sort to fire managers though.

Fitton appointed  Malpas if he can't see his error then he needs to go as well....what has changed since he came in...nothing....still no red seats, still no chicken wings in the TE ....still blown bulbs in the floodlights.  At least when Diamandis was running the club, we could have a decent protest.

I think the whole idea about passion not being there is spot on, but also about organization and commitment that were there when Byrne was on charge. Malpas needs to start doing something pro-active instead of bleating in the press before how we need to do stuff and after how bad we were.

However I always give our managers time to work with the team but I don't much like the way we're playing right now.
