Title: No smoking
Post by: Melksham Red on Friday, February 22, 2008, 13:28:15
Is the smoking ban in the CG a legal thing or just internal policy? I'm not able to attend on Sat, maybe someone could bring it up. Designated smoking areas perhaps?

I usually get caught by that big fat cunt.

I just can't see the problem with say, making the Townend the smoking area full stop. Lets face it, who gives a fuck in there.

It's the law now I'm afraid in terms of covered/enclosed areas. We could ask about whether there's a possibility of opening up a (caged off?) gate at half time for those who can't go 2 hours without a fag, but I'd imagine the practical difficulties would be considerable. We'll ask the question though

Oh well never mind. The turnstile side of the townend is open air. It would be nice to have a legal cigarette there than hang around a pissy bog looking like a cottager!

 Me..for one.

The TE was designated as no smoking long before the July 1st legislation.

Hence the big signs up at the back stating no smoking.....SBC introduced the policy into their  buildings some years ago.

I could always guarantee some laughs when being harrassed by stewards, by pointing out to them the might be better off implementing the rules of the ground, rather than giving my hangover grief.

Yeah lets open up the stratton bank for 100 smokers, rather than sell it to 2,500 Leeds fans.

Bloody hell fellas how do you lot manage to get by on planes without smoking???  You're only in the ground for 2 hours, surely you can get by without a cigarette for that short time?

Sounds great to me. Anyways, I asked the question and got the answer I pretty much expected from pauld. The rest is just hypothetical as it's never going to happen. But you can always rely on the miserable cunt Jan to fan the flames!

I can go two hours, no bother usually. However, throw in a load of alcohol and a game of footy and I last about 2 minutes!

Exactly - I did a 12 hour flight to SF last Nov (and back obviously) and managed fine. But it wasn't nearly as stressful as 2 hours of watching Swindon. I'm fine for League games, but cup games that go into extra time and pens (especially when we fucking miss them all) leave me gasping.

Why the fuck shouldn't I smoke if I want to in the open air ?  YES in the open air - AT FOOTBALL ?

Who is anyone to tell me I cant ?  Its legal isn't it ?

Fair enough - in the confines of the walkways under the stands - or even in the seats if there are people around who don't like it - but why the fuck should I be treated like a leper just becuase I choose - yes choose - to do something that is completely legal ?

Fucking politically correct numpties gone mad !

why the fuck should I ?

In an area out in the open where it is permitted what is the problem ?

Fuck me - next youll want Cider banned "coz it offends you" and you like Lager....

What about the pies ?  Ban the chicken and mushroom coz you like Steak and kidney ???

What a load of bollocks....

The only time I can agree with the ban is if they have the bollocks to LEGALLY ban smoking.....not going to happen.......

Considering that smoking is "legally banned" in all areas of the ground, your argument is pretty crap.

And before you go off on one, I'm quite happy for there to be a place for people to smoke, but the fact of the matter is the County Ground doesn't have an area that is legally acceptable for it

I'm a smoker and I'm quite happy to comply with the smoking ban i.e. in the pub I go outside, in a shop I go outside, at work I go outside, at home I go outside.

The problem at football is you can't go outside.

Well you can but they won't let you back in again. How about an out of ground pass so smokers can nip out, have a fag and come back in again?
Or maybe a stewarded area outside the ground? I've heard that Reading has something like this.

I haven't been to nearly as many games since this ban came in. I wonder how many other smokers have done the same?

Title: No smoking
Post by: STFC_Gazzza on Saturday, February 23, 2008, 20:36:53
I am a non-smoker and couldn't care less either way HOWEVER

When you could smoke
- The pubs had a better atmosphere I found
- You didn't smell people farting in pubs
- You didn't smell toilet blocks in pubs

You still have to walk through a group of smokers to get into pubs etc so the smoking ban really doesn't do anything to be honest...

The law should have been made for "smoking pubs" and "non smoking pubs" similar to "gay pubs" etc... That way you had a choice. If you wanted a fag you could go in certain pubs, if not then go to others...

Title: No smoking
Post by: sheepshagger on Sunday, February 24, 2008, 12:25:10
my point is - outside the ground it is fine.....

There ARE areas inside the ground where you are still outside - depending which end you are in - so why not allow smoking in those outside areas ?

It is NOT illegal to smoke at football grounds - this is a club decision - not a legal one....

I am not arguing that I should be able to smoke wherever I want - just that there is absolutely no reason at all why there is not an area where you can go...

Must be better than all smoking in the bog !

Well I'm sorry for whatever link you have to that event.

However I think you have unnecessarily linked the town end stand to what happened in an old shitty wooden stand, which is what I thought was foolish.

My personal stance is that smoking is banned at the CG, due to legal reasons. People should get over it.

Legally yes, but the FA and FL added their own regs in on top of the law to make all grounds non-smoking once the ban came in.
