Barnsley Fa Cup hero Brian Howard is hoping to get a call-up from Scotland - after playing for England as a kid.

His last-gasp winner at Liverpool shot the midfielder into the spotlight and he is now in the frame for an international 'transfer'.

The Tykes skipper was born in Winchester and played for England at under-20 level while with Southampton, although his family is Scottish.

Now he is open to offers from Scotland - with the SFA tipped off about his change of heart and new national team boss George Burley already aware of his ability.

Howard, 25, left Saints before Burley took over, but the Scotland chief's spies are on the case and will check out one of the best players in the Championship.

Howard's goal at Anfield was his 11th of the season and that kind of threat may earn him a surprise second shot at international football.

Scores a good goal in the 90th minute v Liverpool and gains international interest.  What a joke.

He has been playing very good this season, still not enough to gain a call-up for Scotland though.

Apparently he's well acquainted with the Mc Donalds already.

He's done well for himself since leaving us - why would he spoil it now ?

He's probably better than half the Scotland team anyway. Scotland are a championship side.

Good luck to him.

Scottish blooded people support local team shock!!!

As for Howard, it's a no no for me, just because he's never once given the impression he's got any Scottish pride, he can't have, otherwise he wouldn't have played lower level football for the england.

He falls into the Matt Elliott wanker catagory on this subject.  Pleased he's playing well at Barnsley though.

If I moved to another country I wouldn't have a problem going to support my local side as long as they weren't too successful, I couldn't handle success in my footballing life, just every now and then.

I make it a point that I would always support my local side where ever I lived. Apart from when I lived in Norf London as I refused to support the Arse.
