Title: dwain chambers
Post by: DMR on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 22:42:59
or is it dwayne, dwaine.... ?

now i'm not interested in atheletics at all but wondered what people made of this one?

i think the guy's a prick but i suppose he's "done his time" and if they're testing him reguarly and he's clean, then he's copped his punishment so let him get on with it.

more to the point, if he's britain's fastest sprinter would we not be somewhat shooting ourselves in the foot if they left him out of the championships?

I think it is the 1st one. I think he is a cheat and he should not be able to run in the Athletics in the distance future. Kudos to former sprinter Darren Campbell for venting his frustration at him i think last year in a 4x4 100m Rayleigh race.

I think he should not be picked. The only way to stamp out drug cheats is to impose the toughest penalty possible.

I think he's great. Sport would be ten times better.........make that fourteen times better if drugs were allowed. There's nothing I'd like more than seeing the 100m run in 3 seconds...apart from Sharon Osbourne getting stabbed in the head with a shopping trolley.

He wasn't tested when he was trying out for american football and there is still some question over whether his previous drug use has benefitted him now.  As Scot says he's a drug cheat and althletics has a strict code. I've got more sympathy with Allen Baxter in slalom skiing who got buggered for using a vick's sinex when the foreign version had a banned substance.  We should be building for 2012 and Chambers is just denying a youngster a chance to experience top flight competition IMHO

I don't see the problem! Legalise drugs in sport and everyone's on a level playing field. I want to see the javelin thrown so far it spears a pigeon in the car park. I want to see weightlifters lift the equivalent of Rik Waller's weekly shop. I want to see long jumpers never land.

Drug cheats are heroes!

there's something interestingly impossible about that.

I think you've hit on something there spacey. The whole thing is a conspiracy to stop people improving too much. If athletes started launching their javelins/shotputs/hammers/boots for miles then they'd have to build new more expensive stadiums (stadiiiiii?). People would be running the 100m so consistantly cheap that they'd need new expensive super timers to see who'd won. And they'd have to do completely change the rules for the triple jump.

The whole anti-drugs thing is a cost cutting measure.

He is a drugs cheat and should be kicked-out along with that Ohorguru (however you spell it)

The thing is all athletes are very clearly on drugs

He has to be allowed to compete given the rules, however I think this will see a change in the rules to stop him competing in future.  That said Ohorugu missed her tests so is guilty by the rules, yet has been near enough welcomed back in.  They need to make the rules more consistent, and more importantly do it at a world level, nost just with team GB.

Totally agree. Consistency is the key. Is the reaction to Chambers because he was so blatant?

When the BAA stop employing Linford Christie as a sprint coach then I might be more prepared to listen to their whining. Until then I just want them all to STFU. They agreed the current rules and penalties and it was always pretty obvious that eventually something like this would happen. So tough shit get over it.

Sets a bad example basically saying do drugs take a 2 year break get yourself fit and come back. These people live priveledged lives if they are found guilty they should sack the cunts and make them work on the buildings

there is massive pressure to legalise PEdrugs, so there'd be two olympics, one clean and one non clean.
as for chambers he broke the rules and should be dropped.

The damage has been done. He has lost all credability, for ever.
If he competes and wins anything, he will still be seen as a drug cheat.

If they made drugs legal, i agree it would be ace to see the 100m in 3 secs
and hammers thrown out of the stadium. But it would not be about how good the athelete was, but about how good the drug they were using was.
