18 holes of golf in a polo shirt alone, not done that since October. So much for all these snow storms.

where do u play dave? i usually play Bassett Down or Broome Manor

Title: Spring
Post by: DMR on Saturday, February 9, 2008, 17:22:19
Occassionally Broome Manor, I'm a member at North Wilts (Blacklands), used to be a member at Erkestoke though so maily there.

We get about a bit though as a few of my mates aren't attatched to any particular club. I've played most golf courses in Wilts and Berkshire over the last 3 years.

Highworth's a nice little 9 holes arriba, is it still council run? 12 quid or so is a bargain.

Title: Spring
Post by: Arriba on Saturday, February 9, 2008, 17:28:44
yeah still council.both that and broome are very good for municipal courses imo.
i just hate the swindon card rip off which has had me avoiding using council faciltys for a while.
dont tell anyone but i just used to play broome by walking up and playing for fuck all.
used to play about 3-4 times a week and rarely paid.
nine holes never used to get checked for tickets

I've often thought you could do it... I've never been asked for my ticket at BM.

this sounds like a difinate yes from a few then.

i reckon a weekend in May (i say May cos of my Operation and cos winter tees and greens will have gone) after the season has finished we should arrange a proper TEF golf day.

whether your shite, intermediate or a pro it'll be all good fun.
can play stableford points so it makes it equal for all who wants to attend.

I'd love to get a round in but haven't played for about 3 years.  Used to hack around Highworth or Wrag Barn when I had more time.  I'd be well up for a TEF golf day

i've not played for almost 6 months and even then i've only been playing just over 2 years.

i average a round every month so i'm far from any good. but saying that i'd got my handicap down to 20 within the first year.

Play off about 24....love the game but dont play enough as playing weekdays is off due to work, the course at South Cerney is good for players of our standard, and you can book at pretty short notice....count me in if you play at weekend lads.

I've never had an official handicap so I always play off 18 on the basis it's a shot a hole.  Mind you I've never won anything!  I get around 26 - 32 stableford points so it's probably fair.

18 sounds about right then i would say.

i only know my handicap by registering with www.golfshake.com/ and adding my rounds i've played

It's really difficult to judge as it depends on what course you play.  When I had loads of time and played every week I went round Highworth 9 holes in under 40.  Then I went to Burnham and Berrow and gave up after 15 holes as I used and lost over 24 balls!!!

up here my normall course is Brandhall. Quite a nice and challenging municipal.

my best round was 83 on a par 72.

normally i'm averaging 90

Post by: redbullzeye on Monday, February 11, 2008, 20:40:38
83 is bloody good going  in my book- I usually break 100 but have never broken 80.  I think 87 is my best on a par 72.  I guess it's the great thing about golf I can play almost par golf for 7 - 8 holes but I just know I'm going to shank the fucker out of bounds three times in a row and sure enough I do :D

my problem is my driver. can't hit one for toffee.

now my 3 wood is different. i can hit it a good 220 + when straight but getting it straight is the difficult bit

I haven't bothered with a driver for years.  I've got a Wilson fat shaft 3 wood and I at least stand a chance of keeping that on the fairway.  I could hit a driver a fair way but it was usually 90 degrees left of where it was meant to go!!  Trouble is, it leaves a really long second shot, usually I need to go with a 3 iron and I'm really crap with a 3 iron

Playing off 5, my major faults would be erratic with 2, 3 and 4 irons and occassionally missing 'gimme' putts due to lack of concentration.

I'll take Bushey to school though

I don't care how cold it is as long as the sun is shining!

I'd prefer minus degrees as opposed to +10 degrees and rain and grey cloud.

Then you need not worry about things falling from above and hurting you Ben.
