Title: Some other team vs. Swindon MATCH DAY THREAD
Post by: flammableBen on Saturday, February 9, 2008, 00:34:58
I'd be guessing we're away tomorrow, and I've got a feeling it's up t' north. Fuck knows who we're playing.

Anyway. I think we'll win 2-1 and Cox won't score. Sturrock will, maybe the winner from the bench. That might be a wish on the Sturrock part more than a prediction. I like Sturrock and think that he might randomly come good at some point. Like Fallon did.

I don't think we predict attendances for away games.

I'm a bit out of touch on the availability of our players but I'll have a go at our team

Code:

                          Brez

                   Ifil           Aljo            Vince

Cumface
     |
     |      JPM              Easton             Boob
     |
     |
     \/                Roberts

                Cox              Corr

I'm telling you that the one sided wing backs is the way forward fact. Although I'm not sure our players have the intelligence for it.

Realistically though, push JPM on to the wing and insert the Cock in midfield instead of Roberts behind the front 2.

Cox in for Corr and Zaaboub starting in place of McNamee, otherwise same as last week. Comminges starts despite only flying back yesterday.

A draw seems a pretty safe bet.

Sounds about right on the team front.........if we lose then I'm sure people will use Zaaboub as the scapegoat but hey ho better option than McNamee IMO as he seems incapable of lasting more than 60 mins so is more use as a sub for a cameo role

Afternoon all. Last time I went to 'Uddersfield to watch us was in the McMahon days. We played Chris Hay up front and everyone else across the back. Seem to recall Hay scored and broke his nose and 'Uddersfield equalised later. Bloody boring game it was too!

Sounds a bit like this one (except for us losing)

Everytime, lacklustre 1st half ok 2nd half whats going on?  Why can't we play as were capable from the start?

Im thinking Malpas may need to work on his motivation techniques, oh and I hate the way we play of late.  Boring, lifeless football.

this is just one of them games that we would never win. there's always a few, swansea away, oldham away, tranmere away. its just the way football goes, the moment we start winning these games is when we'll mount a promotion push a la 03/04.

im not suprised at the scoreline, nor do i much care, which is never good.

Title: Some other team vs. Swindon MATCH DAY THREAD
Post by: DV on Saturday, February 9, 2008, 17:19:11
the thing is, we miss Easton terribly, but we're moving JPM inside to cover Easton which means instead of just missing Easton in the middle, we miss Easton in the middle and JPM on the right wing.

You have missed something, Pook isnt good enough....

I only remember Zaaboub playing infield once last season and that was part of 5.....

What we could do with in the middle right now, is Michael Timlin!

pook is good enough for cover at least,he's done ok this season.and i'd pick him in cm over jp any day.
its about balance and jp doesn't give up that at cm.pook despite his flaws puts it about in the centre of the park and gives that bit of balance.

he's not on-loan anywhere.

Could easily cut it at League One level, Fulham with a new manager in charge.

Does Easton being injured and Pook being rubbish mean we can get an emergency loan in?

Plus, I'd rather see Chris Allen in the middle than Pook.

This games in hand thing is false too... going all the way down to about 15th in the table you look at Oldham, Huddersfield, Brighton, Forest, carlisle, Brighton, Bristol Rovers... these all stand to be better off than us if they win their games in hand, hardly any team has played 31.

We've got to have a hell of a run to get in.

yup, plus we never win our games in had....always follows the same pattern

5 points off the play offs with 2 games in hand

one game later

6 points off the play offs with 2 games in hand

one game later

7 points off the play offs with 2 games in hand

one game later

4 points off the play offs with a game in hand

one game later

6 points off the play offs with a game in hand

We'll never catch up, because even if the teams currently in the play offs lose a couple of matches, the teams between them and us will take their place. We're 11th the idea that we'll win both games in hand and 8 from the top 10 teams will drop points is unrealistic

Is that really a problem?  Watching Prem teams, there are not many that will go off playing swashbuckling football, with maybe the exception of Man Yoo and the Arse.  Admittedly today, conceding in the first minute is gash and that is not really good enough with the players that we have who we know can battle in the face of adversity.

Maybe moaning is in our nature now. I don't know. I think we're only guilty of what every other team in the league is doing, as well in the Championship - sacrificing style of play for results in order to reach the promised land (and all the money it entails).

Plenty more where that came from, if the last 2 games are anything to go by

Well it sounds like we are boring as ever away from home. Maybe it's a Malpas thing i don't know? But we won't make the play-offs. I am happy with mid-table anyway. The away form has to be sorted out though.

I'm only doing Rovers Away and that will be it for this season, our away performances aren't worth wasting money on.

Like Walsall away?

We'd never hear the end of it if we dont.

We'd better stuff 'em

I don't know any 'Nam fans, so I'll never hear the start of it.

Thats because the majority of eople from Cheltenham support Swindon anyhow went up to see Villa against Newcastle yesterday and had to change trains at Cheltenham Spa, and it was amazing how many people were wearing Town shirts going up to watch the Huddersfield game.

one win, one draw, one loss away from home under malpas.

seriously - what the fuck are you talking about?

Why is it always me people pick on? FFS i'm nowhere near as bad as some of the anti Malpas idiots on here. In fact i'm pro Malpas. I'm just pointing out that our away games have been dull as fuck recently by the sounds of it and that maybe it's Malpas' tactics away from home or maybe it isn't? I have never said i wanted him out or that we have been shite under him.

I'm sure that when interviewed yesterday, Malpas said something along the lines of "Perhaps we need to be a little bit more Khamikazi (sp) in order to get the win and if we end up losing then so be it see you Jimmy"

It may have been a dream but I'm pretty sure that's what he said. Apart from the 'see you Jimmy' bit. He wasn't talking to Jimmy, he was talking to Ed Hadwin.

That would certainly suggest that us being a bit boring is nowt to do with him though.

Yep. I just listened to it again and I managed to pick out the words...."If that means..kamikazi..gung ho..win games..so be it..see you Ed"

Interesting

I don't think we've been tactically any different under Malpas. He's shifted a couple of players into different positions but that's about it.

We've shown home or away this season that if we go to play football and play to win, more often that not we get a decent result. The worrying thing for me is when we drop points due to silly mistakes at the back. Seems to be a regular occurrence. I'd sooner sort stuff like that out rather than have a major tactical overhaul.

FFS, what is this, the first defeat in 10 League games?

Exactly. Let's get this into perspective - we've been on the brink of going out of business this season, we had the BEST takeover farce, we lost a really good manager in November and didn't replace him until January and yet we're still sitting comfortably in mid-table.

I know football fans have unrealistic expectations, but personally I'll be happy with mid-table this season - partly because we haven't got a squad capable of surviving in the Championship - and look to push for the play-offs next year.

here here, lets make the second half of the season interesting in a good way. fuck what we wanted at the start (survival as a club), things have changed and although I won't be gutted if we don't get to the play offs I'd like to see how close we can get to at least make the last few games a bit intersting.

I'll be happy with some replacement bulbs in the floodlights.

Beating Cheltnumb, Leeds, and Rovers would give us 49 points a point at Forest 50. cane Port Vale 7-0 with 5 for Cox and I'd regard it as a decent season.

After everything that's happened over the last few months/years and looking at what's happened at Luton and Bournemouth recently (there but for the grace of God and all that) I will definitely be more than happy with a top ten finish. i.e. 10th.

Oh yes, and what if Best Holdings had taken over??? **shudder** the thought of that makes my blood run cold. If that had gone through, we would have been looking at Luton and Bournemouth with envy. We would probably have been getting nostalgic about Bob Holt and Diamond Mike. It just doesn't bear thinking about :?
