Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: pauld on Friday, February 8, 2008, 14:41:53 The Football Supporters Federation have launched a campaign against Gam£ (sic) 39. More info at:
http://www.fsf.org.uk/news/news0095no-to-game-39.html They've also got a poll of whether fans are in favour or not if you want to get some quick-hit retro Adver poll style endorphins: http://www.fsf.org.uk/site-pages/poll.html Have to say the more I think about it, the more I don't mind Premiership sides going overseas to play, as long as they're then not allowed back in to the UK. Cut the whole damn lot adrift and let them set up a Global Franchise League of Greed and leave the rest of us to get on with seeing if we can repair the damage they've already done to English football. Erm, not that it makes my blood boil or anything Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: Summerof69 on Friday, February 8, 2008, 16:12:17 A national on-line petition has just gone up on the Football Supporters’
Federation website at: http://www.fsf.org.uk/petitions/no-to-game-39/index.php This is the first of many initiatives which the FSF will either initiate and/or support. There’s another on-line petition at: http://www.petitiononline.com/Rocky7/petition.html Please sign up. Erm, not that it makes my blood boil or anything I'm with you on this one - fuck 'em, doesn't matter a shit to me. I'd be perfectly happy winning the chanmpionship, getting a nice cup then having another go next year without promotion being an issue. Let the Arabs go and watch Blackburn v. VIlla if they want. I also think that an England team from the League wouldn't do any worse than the one we have now and the games would be a lot more entertaining with a team of have a go cloggers without the media circus. Erm, not that it makes my blood boil or anything A-fucking-men my brother. That....what can I call him?....I am struggling here....the only word I think of which will do in this instance (sorry ladies) CUNT, Daniel Levy was spouting on this morning on SPN. It was along the lines of, "Oooh, we have so many fans around the World and we really need to start thinking of them". Oh do fuck off you greedy cunt. How fucking dumb do you think people are? Cunt. Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, February 8, 2008, 19:32:46 I'm all for this stuff....after all we gave the world the game, and had an empire on which the sun never set, time to combine the two....its our manifest destiny.
Blackburn v Bolton in Bahrain got to be a winner. Title: Re: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: pauld on Friday, February 8, 2008, 21:51:04 Quote from: "OOH! Would be cool to see Man Utd - Arsenal in China! Gives clubs a much bigger fan base as well etc, don't see why it shouldn't happen tbh. Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: flammableBen on Saturday, February 9, 2008, 01:22:51 However much I disagree with the average premier league club fan you bump into in the pub on a Sunday afternoon. You have to accept that there are genuine fans out there, and it's not the ones you bump into in the pub.
I'd be fucked off if I was one of the premier/championship yoyo teams (or first offs) that suddenly had a game they couldn't go too because of an expensive flight. The whole thing is finance generating gone one step too far. There's been enough money grabbing antics from our newly(ish) created top flight as it is. But something about this shouts to me like it's a step over a line. Something that will put the top flight of English football another step from the week to week support that is watching your local team. Maybe I'm emotionalising it a bit to myself. And compared to the other things which have happened since the premier league's been formed, like the massive change in tv money distribution, it's not that much of a big deal. But it does seem like it's one of those ideas that steps over a cliff edge, however much you wave your arms you're falling to a place I don't want football to go. Like putting a fat bird on a camel which is already carrying too much straw. And any other metaphors I can think of. You should see some of the comments on the FSF petition, summed up by this : As an Englishman living abroad who can watch ANY premier league game I want by clicking a button on my remote, I can categorically state that the premier league is already a worldwide phenomenon. This proposal is about MORE MONEY, nothing else! http://www.fsf.org.uk/petitions/no-to-game-39/signed.php?ID=&di=#namelist Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: Chubbs on Saturday, February 9, 2008, 08:03:00 i dont care about prem football, do what they want, its just a money grabbing scheme.

That wouldn't happen, they are planning to seed the top 5 clubs so they can't play each other...now think about this, its the last game of the season and you need to win to stay up, your club has pulled man utd as the 39th game, where as sunderland are playing derby.....not exactly fair?? it just doesn't work, what a stupid idea Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: STFC Village on Saturday, February 9, 2008, 09:12:03 They're planning to play the game in January, Whits
Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: Whits on Saturday, February 9, 2008, 09:14:00 ok, well you'd be fucked off and if your extra game was against any of the top 4-5?
why should you have to play them for a 3rd time, it just upsets the balance.. also aren't premiership clubs always complaining they play to many games?? :-))( Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: STFC Village on Saturday, February 9, 2008, 09:21:41 The main problem i have, is that they can't use the NFL game over here as a template. The Yanks are trying to spread their national game to other countries, because no-one really gives a shit about it outside their own colony.
But football is already a global sport, massive in pretty much every country, except America. I actually think that playing a game or 2 in the US would make sense, almost a cultural exchange with NFL. What's actually going to happen is purely greed. Money grabbing cunts Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: ScillyRed on Saturday, February 9, 2008, 09:43:06 Does that mean lower leagues will have to play abroad also could be a good trip for us, somewhere sunny with cheap beer - Oxford would probably get one of the outer Solomon Islands

Big news, "The World" is quite big. If Man U play in Sydney, how does that help the rest of the world wide support ? Oh, and how is the extra game going to help England, with all the travel ?. - kind of makes the plea for a mid season break a bit fatuous as well. Just means that the FA cup will be reserve teams only for the money grabbing gits. Ok so hosting it here would bring in money etc but where it is held is more about the fans than anything Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: axs on Friday, February 15, 2008, 00:02:20 it's an idle threat, he seems to be misguided in thinking the premier league, as opposed to the FA, give a fuck about the world cup.
Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: BANGKOK RED on Friday, February 15, 2008, 20:56:36 This is worrying to me:
Quote The Football Association has told Fifa it has serious reservations over the Premier League's proposal to play additional top-flight games abroad. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/7246314.stm The reason that I find it worrying is why oh why do the FA feel the need to approach FIFA about the situation. I thought that the FA where the immediate governing body ALL English football. Has the Premier League really become that powerful that the FA have no longer jurisdiction? Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: BANGKOK RED on Friday, February 15, 2008, 20:57:43 The point that I am trying to make is....
Why can the FA not just say NO!!! Title: FSF campaign against Prem overseas Post by: pauld on Friday, February 15, 2008, 22:42:35 Quote from: "BANGKOK RED" The point that I am trying to make is.... For the same reason they didn't immediately come out and say NO to this proposal when it was first made and the same reason they caved in over the PL being formed in the first place - they're terrified if they try to actually regulate the game as they're supposed to, the big clubs will take their toys and form a breakaway SuperLeague. World Soccer League anyone?
