Why the fuck to we pass it round the back 4 for like 10mins every England game. Pisses me right off! And whenever Joe Cole gets the ball he tries to cross the ball which is the one thing he CANT do, we need him skinnin up bringing Rooney into play etc.

england fans are retards.

Over the last 40 years, the relative route one direct style of play has done fuck all for us. We pass the ball around well, and were getting slated for it!! Some of the passes are going astray, but were playing much better than we ever did under mclaren

i was only 3 months old at wc '90, but after reading books and looking at highlights and shit like that it seems we were lucky to get to the semi's. A truly world class team doesn't need a last minute goal to beat belgium, or two penaltys to beat cameroon.

And euro 96 i can't really comment on again, but from what i can tell we only played really well once, against holland. And we were at home too.

You asked, I answered, last four in both competitions.
Not even qualified this time and not likely again if we play like this.

So when we thrashed the favourites Holland 4-1 we were lucky.
We outplayed Germany in the world cup in the semi, definitely the best side in the competition, lost on penalties again.

A world class England won the world cup after a 0-0 draw with France, a lucky win against a better Argentina with 10 men, a very competitive 2-1 win against Portgual, a disputed goal against Germany in the final.

Untill England stop playing the 'european' style and start playing the 'Premiership' style we'll never do anything.

Look at the pace and tempo the Premiership teams play with when they need a goal. Look are the pure pace in the Aston Villa team. Watch the way Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo run at players.

Yet, England pass it sideways for about 65 minutes of each game. Unless you're at least 3-0 up then you should be attacking after more goals, not passing it across your back line boring everyone to sleep.

I wasn't unimpressed.

I've been angry with England for a few years now, and i'm giving it a chance. Like DV said, I also don't like the Euro football style, it's not playing to our strengths, however, Capello knows a thing or 2 and i'll be willing to overlook boring football in place of victory.

I was actually pleased with our game. It's a start.

I semi-agree with you DV (which is a bit of a change). I don't think it's a case of us playing a European style though, I think it's just a lack of any urgency in the side. I agree that getting players running at people, having the defensive midfielders coming in to sweep up clearences etc is the way to go, but not doing that doesn't equal European style. In our case it's just been not really giving a shit.

I watched todays game and enjoyed it in bits. Joe Cole was good, although he tended to be one of the highlights when everybody else was being shit anyway.

Rooney had a good 20mins spell, but he's not a one man show, however much we want him to be. His good bit's coincided with decent balls from the midfield. Which seemed to always come from Bentley and Cole.

Jenas seemed to be a bit of a vanishing appearing player. He popped up in bits but wasn't exactly a presence.

Or something. I don't like trying to talk football about the national side. I tend to disagree with people.

The second half performance was much better, but then this was a Swiss team who made god knows how many changes in said second half.

I've been complaining about the difference in style from their premier league games, to England games for ages and have put it partly down to the talented non-english players in the Prem. Grab the English on their own and they seem to want to just pass it sideways for long periods. zzzzzzzz

I went to the game, it started a bit slow and we looked nervous but we controlled the possession and looked the better side for the whole game. Their goal was completely against the run of play. Both our goals were very good and we could easily have scored more if the Swiss goalkeeper had not made a couple of very good saves.

I thought Joe Cole should have been man of the match not Gerrard. Rooney up front on his own always seems a bit isolated but he did ok, though Crouch up front, Rooney on the left and Wright-Phillips on the right worked much better - very promising. Another excellent performance from Crouch, great first time volley and started the build-up to our second goal.

Overall the performance was not amazing but decent and a good start to Capello's reign.

I went to the game too and have to agree with you. First half we really were poor, and Brown and Cole were the weak links. They gave the ball away and provided nothing in the way of support for the wingers. Both our goals were good and there were flashes of what we expect an England side to play like. We can only hope Capello can get them to turn that into a proper 90 minute performance.

I didn't think Ferdinand was that bad, certainly no worse than Brown, Upson or Ashley Cole. Brown was particularly bad, he really shouldn't be playing for England and Upson is no way near as good as Terry but he won't get near the team when he's back.

I didn't think Ferdinand was that bad, certainly no worse than Brown, Upson or Ashley Cole. Brown was particularly bad, he really shouldn't be playing for England and Upson is no way near as good as Terry but he won't get near the team when he's back.

He's much better than Upson though...

Brown was cack the other night, I said he shouldn't have been in the team and think I was proven right well before half-time

well yes he is better than upson obviously I just hope woodgate stays fit for a while ,

Terry is slow and basically just good in the air,if vidic, ferdinad, toure or carragher are out for lenghy spells the respective clubs miss them , Chelsea are doing better without Terry that speaks volumes

I don't think Terry is overrated, he's been one of the top defenders in the premiership over the last few seasons so he deserves to be rated highly, has to be one of the first names on the team sheet for England when fit.
Are Chelsea really doing better without him? They didnt beat Portsmouth or Aston Villa and they need to win those sort of games to have a shot at the title. Also Chelsea have spent way more on their back-up players than most teams, if he played for a different club they would miss him more.

John Terry isn't overrated, he is a top player and never seems to make mistakes.
However, I would like to see Woodgate given a chance over JT or Rio in a friendly or something, Woody deserves it.

I think Woodgate is overrated. People always go on about if he could stay fit for a while etc. etc.. He's never fit, ergo, overrated imo.

Ferdinand gives goals away for England on a regular basis-that is a fact.People can say he's good if they like,I'm just saying against top-class opposition he's a liability, how he plays for ManUre doesn't bother me but for England it does and I think he is vastly overrated

Not a great Ferdinand fan, always seems to play better with a PROPER centre half next to him picking up the pieces, good playing when in possession though.

yep-if he's got time on the ball-but first and foremost he should be able to defend
