Title: Cox to sign for us tomorow according to the Adver Post by: Nemo on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 07:59:08 http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/display.var.2003730.0.cox_is_nearly_towns.php
TOWN expect Simon Cox to become their player within the next 48 hours as the new County Ground board throw their cash behind a late play-off push. The Swindon Advertiser understand Reading have rejected Town's initial offer for the striker, estimated to be around £100,000, but chairman Andrew Fitton will meet the Royals' demands in the hunt for Championship football. Town's 1-0 win at Luton last night leaves them five points off the top six and the club hierarchy believe Cox is the man to fire them towards the play-offs. The Advertiser understand Town could ultimately be forced to pay in excess of £200,000 for the 20-year-old, with Premier League Reading refusing to relent in their high demands. It is also understood Maurice Malpas is closing in on a creative midfielder from the Championship ahead of the close of the transfer window at midnight tomorrow, with Fitton & co showing the ambition that will excite all Robins fans. With Ibon Arrieta and Mauro Almeida having agreed deals to leave the club and the third of the BEST Holdings trio, Franklin Anzite, set to depart soon, Town's wage bill has been eased just in time. advertisement Morecambe and Forest Green Rovers are just two clubs believed to be chasing Town defender Chris Blackburn, with the arrival of Pat Kanyuka suggesting his County Ground days could soon be coming to an end. Cox became an instant hero in Wiltshire during a successful three-month loan spell earlier this season. He scored nine goals between the end of August and New Year's Day and manager Maurice Malpas sees him as the fox-in-the-box' needed to add to attacking options. League One rivals Northampton Town have also stated their confidence of landing Cox in the next couple of days. But it is believed his own desire to return to Swindon, and the board's money, should see Town win the race for his permanent signature. Reading have been keen to keep hold of the frontman but, with his contract out this summer and him desperate for regular football, they have decided to cut their losses. Town were remaining tight-lipped on the subject last night, wary of any premature announcement. But unless there are any last-minute last complications, Cox could be running out at the County Ground against Northampton on Saturday. Speaking after last night's victory, Malpas said: "Everyone knows who I am trying to get. "The chairman is working his tail off for that and it is a case of can we get something done before Thursday? "The chairman has to do his bit and I will have to do mine if we agree a deal. "I can't talk to the player until the clubs are in agreement. The chairman has taken a lot of the pressure off me by doing all the scavenging work. "He is on the phone a lot and starts a deal off and it is up to me to finish it off in terms of speaking to the player and getting his contract done. The way we have gone about it so far has worked. "We have moved the goalposts for him and the midfield player. "I have spoken with the club and we are going to get a decision possibly tomorrow (Wednesday) so it could be a hectic tomorrow or Thursday. On the departure of the BEST Holdings trio, he added: "It has released some money. "They were never going to play so it is best for them and best for the club. "Now we will try to get more players in and more players out. If we can get some business done it will be great. "We are trying to get one or two out. The ball is in their court really. "Franklin Anzite has been offered a settlement and it is his to decide. "Another player is talking to other clubs and it is a case of whether he wants to go. "Ideally we would like him to go and the chairman says we can then get other people.'' Title: Cox to sign for us tomorow according to the Adver Post by: janaage on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 09:02:10 This is a fucking disgrace, so Fitton and co take over the club and now they start buying players. We'd be better off with the Newbury lot. If the're not serious about this club then what's the point in this takeover?
Just thought I'd have a moan about this as obviously this news won't be good enough for some. Can we now please for the love of God get off the backs of our new messiahs. They are here to do the business, they will choose how to spend their money and when to spend it. Title: Cox to sign for us tomorow according to the Adver Post by: janaage on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 09:13:54 Exactly Gazzz, I think we all need a new mind set here, Fitton is proving himself to be the chairman we've always wanted. If this story is true and we've just matched Reading's asking price then this should be a message to all Town fans, "leave the financial side of the club to us and just get behind the team".
It's gonna be difficult to let go of worrying about the behind the scenes stuff but let's put a bit of trust in the new custodians of the club. if there is a chance we might aswell go for it.why settle for mid table when we have a chance? money is no object to our new board.and while i dont think they should just throw huge amounts at it willy nilly.why clear the debts, add a few players and not wish to go up at the first time of asking? whenever they wish to progress up the leagues it will require some money being put it anyway.why wait in hope of progress when the opportunity is there now? Cox has to choose between us and Northampton :)
I'd imagine all will be clear by tomorrow morning. Good to see we are having a serious go at it though. http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/display.var.2006926.0.town_and_cobblers_in_battle_for_cox.php Quote Town and Cobblers in battle for Cox By Gareth Moorhouse Comment | Read Comments (3) SOUGHT-after Simon Cox looks almost certain to grace the County Ground pitch again this weekend, although it is not yet clear which colour shirt the striker will be wearing. Swindon host League One rivals Northampton Town - the other club in the hunt for Cox's signature - at SN1 on Saturday, and the Reading marksman has yet to decide where his long-term future lies. The Robins are hot favourites to land Cox after agreeing terms with the Royals yesterday, but the Swindon Advertiser understand the striker was also spotted undergoing a medical at Sixfields. advertisement With the transfer window due to close at midnight tonight, Cox has just hours to ponder his next move, and Town fans are keeping their fingers firmly crossed that the 20-year-old chooses Wiltshire over Northampton. Board member Jeremy Wray last night confirmed the club had tabled an offer to Cox, but admitted he expects any transfer dealings to go "right down to the wire." Wray said: "Negotiations are ongoing and every effort is being made to get Simon Cox in. "I think it is fair to say we have satisfied Reading and now Simon is considering his options. "What I will say is that I am confident Simon Cox will be at the County Ground on Saturday. We just hope he will be wearing a Swindon shirt." Though the Cobblers have yet to publicly confirm their interest in Cox, sources close to Northampton revealed chairman David Cardoza had also offered terms to the promising centre forward. Cox spent six weeks on loan at the Sixfields last season and Cardoza has not given up hope of landing the striker. He said: "It's an ongoing process and one that we've been working on for a very long time. "We're confident we will have a new striker signed by the time the window closes, but time is definitely not on our side. "If we can't get our number one target we will have a look at going into the loan market, that is something we have always had in mind throughout this month. He added: "We've got a few other options available to us and I'm confident a new striker will be at the club in time for the game at Swindon on Saturday." Town meanwhile, are hoping to unveil another new player today as chairman Andrew Fitton looks to arm Maurice Malpas with a squad capable of crashing the League One play-off party. Wray revealed an offer had been made to a current Championship player who could add an extra dimension to the Town midfield. He said: "We are chasing a midfielder who I think would surprise a lot of people. I think he would be the missing piece in our midfield. "We have satisfied the club and I believe we might have satisfied the player, but we will just have to wait until Thursday now." Wray also confirmed the club had received several enquiries about defender Chris Blackburn, although he said no offers had yet been made. Blue Square Premier outfit Forest Green Rovers and Blackburn's former club Morecambe are believed to be two of parties interested in Town's summer signing. If the last transfer deadline day is anything to go by then the omens are good for Town, who swooped to sign Cox, Billy Paynter and Jon-Paul McGovern at the 11th hour. Cox went on to become an instant hero in Wiltshire, scoring nine times in four months, before moving back to Premiership Reading at the turn of the year. But even if Town miss out on their number one target, Wray insists the new consortium are committed to providing Malpas with the best possible squad. He said: "We have built some momentum at this club and we are determined to keep it going. "The chairman wants to provide Maurice with the players he wants but that has to be done against a sensible and stable background. "We don't want to be spending silly money on players. "Personally I don't mind if our squad is a little top-heavy if it helps our push towards the end of this season. "If we get to the end of the season and we have not won promotion then we may need to trim the squad back down again in the summer." TOWN have yet to confirm a date for their FA Youth Cup fifth round tie away to Championship club Charlton Athletic. The club are keen to avoid a repeat of Tuesday night's fixture clash, when Town's youngsters beat Middlesbrough in front of a sparse crowd while the first team travelled to Luton. http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/swindontown/headlines/display.var.2008231.0.cox_deal_on_brink_of_collapse.php Cox deal on brink of collapse By Gareth Moorhouse Comment SWINDON'S attempts to bring Simon Cox to the County Ground have hit a late hitch, with manager Maurice Malpas admitting the deal could be on the brink of collapse. Town have agreed a fee with Premiership club Reading for the 20-year-old's services, but Malpas insists the club and player are still "miles away" from agreeing personal terms. Malpas claims to have made Cox an "exceptional offer" to join the County Ground club, but the player's wage demands are believed to be too high. advertisement With the transfer window due to close at midnight tonight, Town are due to hold further talks with the striker in an attempt to end the impasse. Meanwhile, Town's bid to bring a Championship midfielder to the club also looks to have stalled, with personal terms again the sticking point. Board member Jeremy Wray told the Swindon Advertiser yesterday that the two parties were close to reaching an agreement, but that deal now looks dead. On a brighter note for Town fans, Lee Peacock has agreed a new two-year deal with the Robins which would keep him in Wiltshire until the summer of 2010. http://www.gazetteandherald.co.uk/sport/swindontown/news/display.var.2007823.0.we_wont_be_held_to_ransom_says_malpas.php We won't be held to ransom, says Malpas By Nick Mashiter Comment Hot property: Simon Cox Swindon Town boss Maurice Malpas says the club will not be held to ransom with the transfer window set to slam shut tonight. The Scot has accused Reading chairman John Madejski of "moving the goalposts" in negotiations for the deal to bring Simon Cox to the County Ground. Both parties are now satisfied with the final fee for the talented frontman but a sticking point is believed to be the Premiership club wanting a sell-on clause. However, Malpas is confident of signing former nine-goal loanee Cox today. "Their chairman has moved the goalposts a couple of times but they are trying to look after themselves in the future. There is always wheeling and dealing," said Malpas. "The overall fee is agreed, it is just how it is going to be paid." advertisement But Malpas knows with a new board at Town, who host Northampton on Saturday, clubs will see their chance to ask for more cash. "We have got criteria in terms of the wages and transfer fees we can offer and we are not going to splash money on the team and hope they come together," he said. "The directors are aware of that and refuse to go down that road." Malpas says Cox is keen to return to SN1, and is also hopeful of signing a midfielder before tonight's midnight deadline. "Terms are always an issue but Simon wants to come, which makes is easier," he said. "I have also spoken to a midfielder but I honestly don't know if that will go through." One unnamed player looks set to leave though and is in discussions with another club. "There is one player who is speaking to another club and the ball is in his court," added Malpas. 9:56am today Title: Cox to sign for us tomorow according to the Adver Post by: Peter Venkman on Thursday, January 31, 2008, 12:28:27 I would love him to come but we cannot break the wage structure, he isnt THAT good, its not like hes the next Wayne Rooney or Michael Owen, hes a good Premier reserve player who can hold his own in this league without setting it alight.
Its probably as statred his agent trying to get the best deal and not even Cox but he has to look after his own interests for the future, but I cant help thinking there is a huge element of greed, knowing he is wanted by 2 clubs that both will be willing to pay a good sum to him and for him. Title: Cox to sign for us tomorow according to the Adver Post by: fatbury on Thursday, January 31, 2008, 12:49:04 im hoping it just a bid to get the best deal for him personally ... if he chooses Northampton over us ... well thats just silly ... but nevertheless bad for us

Title: Cox to sign for us tomorow according to the Adver Post by: Ardiles on Thursday, January 31, 2008, 13:19:50 Something else occured to me this morning. Reading might be having second thoughts about offloading him at this stage.

Quote Maybe either he or his agent is using what we have offered him (assuming we've offered anything at all) to try to up the ante at his supposed favoured destination. If he comes to us, I'll take the view that you can't blame him for trying to maximise his earning potential; however, if he goes to Swindon, then I'll denounce him as a greedy bastard. Quote Quote from: Patmore on Today at 01:50:56pm Their fans seem a lot more confident than us lot. Thats becuase they love him more than we do and subsequently find it harder to contemplate not signing him. The reality is it now doesn't look like he is joining Swindon judging by todays comments from Malpas. As an agent, holding out for more and more money, he could be doing a disservice to his client who as a result will probably spend the rest of the season playing out on the wing for Reading reserves.... if he's lucky. Quote and will be slightly disappointed IF Swindon beat us to it. Sounds as though his agent is a bit of an a*se though. Quote Lets face it he never really wanted to come here Some comments seem to bear a striking resemblance to ours.
