Title: Pub In Luton
Post by: axs on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 12:11:55
Not sure who else is going - but there's two places near the ground - a conservative club and another pub called Bedfordshire Yeoman which has a car park.

Anyone else around for a pint?

'On our own, on our own, on our own...'

Mind you, how many times has it just been you and I singing? At least a handful I'd wager.

    :nono:

Back in the late 70's early 80's.....I used to be a member of the Star Club, which was down the bottom of Bridge Street.  It was the social club of the Communist Party.

The CP historically was always pretty lively in Swindon...what with the railways and other heavy industry....the legendary Ike Gradwell always used to get a fair number of votes in general elections.

I always thought the cheap beer prices were as a result of KGB sponsorship.

The great thing about the place was when pubs closed at 10:30 in the week, you could always get a late one there.

Highlights used to be the Chilean evenings, when refugees from General Pinochet's repression , used to put on food and music as a way of getting some money.

I was never a paid up member of the CP.....

It would take the promise of a bj to get me into that foul place.

I recall  going to the Labour Club in Headington, it was just around the corner from the Manor....fucking huge place.

Couldn't quite work out how it got its fundage, but the walls were decorated with Labour Party luminaries, who had been to the uni, and came back for events.....Captain Bob lived just down the road in his council house.

I went as part of a red pedalists against cruise missiles bike ride 8)
