She got £5m compo because when she was in hospital for a punctured lung and broken ribs she contracted MRSA. She now can only walk with the aid of a walking stick.

She contracted MSSA (which I think I'm right in saying can't be treated with drugs like MRSA can) when she was in hospital with a broken rib, having fallen off a table mid-shag.

I think she has pretty much lost all feeling below the waist and she's partially disabled, walks with a stick etc.

MSSA... significantly different to MRSA gents, probably to the tune of 5 million quid.

MSSA is methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus

So MSSA can be treated with antibiotics and MRSA can't and is therefore more of a bastard.

As I think someone else has said the money is damages, so reflects the income that she would is likely to have earned if she hadn't been infected. You or I wouldn't have got anything like that.

One other thing, the money shouldn't directly impact on frontline services as it will be paid through the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts (CNST) which is a national scheme for the NHS to to provide a fund to pay negligence damages.
