I had thought of Terry Fenwick, if only because I remember one match where he skinned a player and then run back so that he could skin the player again, just for fun like. Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: Melksham Red on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 13:03:12 Bobby Barnes

Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 13:14:23 Nah Sonic he was nicknamed Animal because of his striking resemblance to the muppet...as well as being a crude violent and nasty bastard!

Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: land_of_bo on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 14:24:57 I'm also applying the "players I've seen rule".
Bobby Barnes Tom Jones (I seem to remember him playing right mid?) If Tommy doesn't count then I'll have Buzzer. SHAUN TAYLOR on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 17:39:13 Walters absolutely definitely. And based on his performances during his first dozen or so games, I would say Bobby Barnes.
Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 17:41:05 Quote from: "BANGKOK RED" Roger's and Walters. i didn't ever see king don, nor bobby barnes  Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: lebowski on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 18:48:06 i have just worked out how this works.
someone has already nominated the players i would choose, so there was no need for me to repeat the nomination, was there? silly boy. Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: Reg Smeeton on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 19:10:26 This one is a lot more straightforward....if we're to have 2 proper wide men, then DR is in for the no 11 shirt. The number 7 is a bit more problematic, Mike Summerbee was a class act, Ian Miller was great fun, but not quite of the required class and Mark Walters was.
Mossy was a bit unfortunate in that he stepped up just after Don had gone and sufferd a bit by comparison, but was a very good player, had he been around a bit later think he'd have been better appreciated. Think I'd go for Walters on the basis of spreading the players out over time. "Animal" Williams wasn't so much a winger as a wide midfield player, like a Zaaboub. Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: Bedford Red on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 19:22:31 Rogers and Walters for me
Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: neville w on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 19:40:06 Rogers and Hammerstein, I mean Walters.

Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: kirky62 on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 21:28:58 Animal took us for football training at North Star when at Swindon College - a decent bloke who didnt have much more skill than the rest of us, but had a nice little temper! Top wingers would have to be Don Rogers and David Moss
Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: dell boy on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 21:32:48 Don and Mike Summerbee for me. Walters was a great signing for Swindon but already past his best when he put on the red shirt of Town. Don and Mike wore the red shirt in their prime.
Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: fjortoft on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 22:11:47 Walters and Rogers. Never saw the latter but you don't have cult status for no reason
Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: adje on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 23:01:57 Summerbee sen and Don Rogers.Walters was good but too near the end of his career for me.Dave Moss was worth a shout but if your looking for players who suffered by comparison to Rogers, you could mention Chris Porter who made an electric start to his Town career but faded badly and quickly.Tommy Jenkins,Rogers' actual replacement never had a hope.

Tommy Jenkins.....wizard of the dribble, take on players all the time, just had no idea what to do at the end of it all. Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: sonic youth on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 23:05:23 reg, can you explain to me whether an inside forward would be considered a winger in modern terms?
Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: adje on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 23:16:49 No-an inside forward would be your equivalent to centre mid young Youth or a deep lying centre forward a la Beardsley.Or John Smith from our league cup winning side.
Title: Best XI: Wingers (NOMINATIONS) Post by: adje on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 23:23:17 Ps sorry I'm not Reg-hope you dont mind me butting in.
