Title: Best XI: Central midfielders (NOMINATIONS) Post by: Arriba on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 13:29:28 this is the toughest one for me.hoddle didn't play midfield for us, but has to get in the team.
kamara was my first town hero but alan mac and mickey hazzard were fucking quality too. thats 4 and i cant split em. aaarrrgghhhh fuck it. alan mac and hoddle it has to be.hoddle because he was so talented and did the business for us during the play off year.and alan mac scored so many goals during our 89-90 promotion season including the winner in the play off final so he has to get in. Title: Best XI: Central midfielders (NOMINATIONS) Post by: Spencer_White on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 13:31:50 Mark Walters and Micky Hazard.
Hoddle played central defence/sweeper most of the time. Title: Best XI: Central midfielders (NOMINATIONS) Post by: Arriba on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 14:01:56 Quote from: "Spencer_White" Mark Walters and Micky Hazard. Hoddle played central defence/sweeper most of the time. he played in a 3 man cb trio.but as one of 2 cb cant be justified imo.so has to go in cm surely?unless we had a sweeper?as he was the spare man of the 3 Title: Best XI: Central midfielders (NOMINATIONS) Post by: land_of_bo on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 14:19:18 Ooooh ahhh Alan Mac & Glenda for me

Title: Best XI: Central midfielders (NOMINATIONS) Post by: Summerof69 on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 16:26:56 If we're playing a 'diamond' formation, Hoddle and Alan Mac, otherwise Hoddle and Moncur.
Don't take the piss out of Stigger Foley. I remember that hat-trick he scored against Leicester in '91 which kept us up. Except for Kevin Horlock in the '95-96 season, I cannot remember another Town midfielder who scored a hat-trick since then. And the story Macari told about Foley at the Trust evening last year, was legendary. Title: Best XI: Central midfielders (NOMINATIONS) Post by: Melksham Red on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 17:03:16 I love Steve Foley. Many great memories of him as a player. I just don't think he should be anywhere near a best XI list.

Title: Best XI: Central midfielders (NOMINATIONS) Post by: Reg Smeeton on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 18:52:27 Tough call....I take Arriba's point that Hoddle didn't actually play midfield for us.
If Hoddle gets in it has to be as libero, then the full backs are chosen accordingly. If its 4-4-2 then I think Chris Kamara and Ray McHale would be as good as anything. Mickey Hazard is another worthy of consideration. If you want a sort of goalscoring nmidfield player then Alan Mac is worth a shout, but Ernie Hunt....was several classes above. Title: Best XI: Central midfielders (NOMINATIONS) Post by: Reg Smeeton on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 19:40:32 Quote from: "Bedford Red" Hoddle and Alan Mac for me. A bit lightweight in the tackle. Just about all of our successful sides have had an anchor man in midfield.....the 69 side had Joe Butler. Now Joe doesn't get too many plaudits, but he was a tremendous player. He was converted from left back, where he was a sort of Sol Davis type, loved a tackle, was useful in distributing the ball short, but not the best getting forward....a great team player. The other 2 Wembley winning sides had Ross McClaren who did a similar job. If you play two wingers then the midfield has to be a bit more rugged. Chris Kamara definitely mixed the rose and fisted glove, Ray McHale looked after himself. Steve Foley is worth a shout, but doesn't quite get above Kammy and McHale. Title: Best XI: Central midfielders (NOMINATIONS) Post by: blinkpip on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 20:03:13 Horlock and Moncur
Title: Best XI: Central midfielders (NOMINATIONS) Post by: kirky62 on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 21:36:30 Spoilt for choice. Kamara was a really exciting discovery at the time. Mchale used to mix it and is legendary because of Gillingham encounters. Hoddle by far the best passer of a ball and Moncur also a great playmaker. Would go for Kamara and Mchale only because the further back you go, the better they seem to be in your memory
Title: Best XI: Central midfielders (NOMINATIONS) Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 21:36:45 John Moncur / Steve McMahon
