There goes our chance of signing cox then.

Title: Mr Cox
Post by: DiV on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 21:56:19
why?

Sturrock isnt at the game
Sturrock doesnt want to sign Cox
One game doesnt mean anything

Im talking in terms taht he held his own against Premier League opposition, more interest will come in or Reading hold on to him or fee goes up!

Nothing to do with Sturrock.

He won't stay unless they sell another striker which they haven't yet. This does increase the possibility of other interest though  :|

he's cup-tied now though so he's worth less.

Granted, in our situation we probably would feel it devalues him but on the whole I don't think that is necessarily the case. By the end of the month it'll be down to the last 16 teams in the cup, so to the majority of teams the fact that he is cup tied is going to be irrelevant. If by giving him a few games he attracts another team or two it could push the price up.

decent header. i heard some of the game on 5live and he got plenty of mentions but his work rate would mean he gets plenty of touches anyway

Apparently he did good and a couple of reading fans I know who went said they'd rather sell Lita for £2.50!!!!

I just took the pleasure of telling them how much we are now worth

Reading FC
Cox edges closer to joining Swindon

SIMON COX could be allowed to leave for Swindon Town on a permanent deal at the end of the month, writes NICK IVE.

The 20-year-old Reading-born striker is desperate for first-team football and knows his chances are limited as fifth-choice striker at Madejski Stadium.

Cox was a hit on loan at the Robins last month and the League 1 side are keen to tie up a £150,000 deal for his services.

Swindon’s new chairman Andrew Fitton has publicly expressed his desire to land Cox.

But Royals boss Steve Coppell said: “With due respect to the chairman of Swindon, he shouldn’t be saying that sort of thing because he’s our player.

“If he wants to get in touch then we can discuss it. We don’t do business in the newspapers.”

However, Coppell admitted:  “He (Cox) is at a crossroads. He wants to play. He’d love it to be here – but if not, he’d like to try somewhere else. We’ll see what happens in the transfer
window.

I thought we had put in an official bid. I  think it's fair enough to make that public.

A quick glance at their forums tells me that although they will be dissapointed to see him go, they are pretty much resigned to it.

Also that it'll be a shame cos' he's a local (reading) lad, one for the future but not good enough for the Prem (Yet).

Thing is though it sounds like Coppell is saying that with some real tone in his voice and some expression but i bet if you saw that interview in person there would have been no life in it at all. He is the most boring manager for interviews this country has seen.
