Title: You probably didn't know your mobile phone could do this! Post by: Berniman on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 10:26:26 There are a few things that can be done in times of grave
emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: FIRST Emergency The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out. SECOND Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk). Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!' THIRD Hidden Battery Power Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time. FOURTH How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone * # 0 6 # A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones. Title: You probably didn't know your mobile phone could do this! Post by: mattboyslim on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 17:31:47 I knew about number one, number 4 works, however fear of the phone aids, even for my work phone precludes no 3, and as for no 2 I don't think remote central locking is the same as keyless entry.
Title: You probably didn't know your mobile phone could do this! Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 17:34:45 Number 1 is a known one. Same as you can dial 999.
Number 2 has been done on Braniac and it WAS proven to be true. I think they may have done it on Mythbusters too. I tried number 3 (I've seen this before) and it didn't do anything. Number 4 I knew because they ask you to do it if you're registering a phone. Taking a call from Miss Angry gives your phone the bad aids though. Watch it kids. Title: You probably didn't know your mobile phone could do this! Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 17:35:31 Also what sort of plank could lock their keys in the car if it's remote central locking? :o
Title: You probably didn't know your mobile phone could do this! Post by: axs on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 17:36:59 you'd have to lock it with a door open, then throw the keys inside and then shut the door. easily done.

Post by: mattboyslim on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 17:40:39 my car automatically locks if it's unlocked and left for too long, I think that if you left the keys inside it's lock them in, thankfully I've never fallen foul of this.

Title: You probably didn't know your mobile phone could do this! Post by: axs on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 17:44:40 doesn't work for me.
although I thought 112 was definately the international emergency number. Title: You probably didn't know your mobile phone could do this! Post by: RobertT on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 17:49:31 Number 4 is just one of a whole host of old GSM standard codes that act like a shortcut and should work on all phones these days. They include such exciting functions as barring calls, setting up diverts, setting up voicemail, getting your own mobile number to display etc. 90% plus work across all networks and phones.
Number 1 used to be a big issue with the Emergency Services before flip and slide phones started becomming so popular. Title: You probably didn't know your mobile phone could do this! If you open the door as I did to get something out of the glove box and the leave the keys on the seat whilst I fiddled in the glove box, if you also do not put the keys in the ignition and then close the door it will self-lock in 30 seconds. Title: You probably didn't know your mobile phone could do this! Post by: Samdy Gray on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 10:31:10 Or coincidentally also with a Peugeot 307 HDI, you can leave your bag containing your car keys in the car after the missus has picked you up, then forget to pick up said bag, the missus fucks off to work with her car keys leaving yours locked in the car.
