does anyone watch this?

i swear to god, this is the very best tv program i have ever seen in my life.

it is shown on fx (channel 165) on monday nights. they are currently half way through series 2 (of 4 - series 5 has just begun in america).

i really cannot tell you how much you have to watch this.

on the surface, it's about the cops in baltimore.

but if you watch it then you'll find it's equally about the people they are hunting, and why these bad guys are doing what they do. then you see the personal lives of both the cops and the criminals and find that not only are these guys and girls very similar, but in some cases if you take away the uniforms and guns and you'd struggle to know who is good and who is bad.

Ive always wanted to watch this but never got round to it, i may have to go out and purchase the 3 series on dvd sometime.

i've always liked you spud.

i promise you, get series 1, you will not regret it.

this program is like a good novel, you have to soak up the early episodes to really know what's going on.

and just in case you are wondering, my favourite character is omar. he is a guy who goes around the 'hood carrying a shot gun and robs drug dealers. bad ass mother fucker.

This, along with 24, is next on my list of tv series to work through once I finish with the sopranos, I've heard a lot of people praise the wire.

the detail re-focus their attention to the barksdale crew and their drug dealing.

it will be on at the same time as prison break, but the wire is superior by quite some distance.

omar is a goodun i admit, but for some reason i like stringer, he's doing a degree and wears glasses and everything.

That is brilliant! I'd forgotten that scene completely. I've just finished watching the fourth series and it's just gets better and better. Although the end of S3 is perhaps the best moment so far...

Oh David Simon's book - Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets - which became the brilliant Homicide: Life On The Street has finally been published in Britain. It's all about Simon's time with the Balmer Police and much of The Wire is taken directly from the cases and characters in it.

season 5 comes out on monday.

I'm waiting for the 1-5 Boxset to be released on December, 8. I shall exploit my 30% discount at work... unless I can get it cheaper online of course.

Andre Royo who plays Bubs keeps showing up in stuff now as well. I saw him in the Terminator series the other week and last night he pitched up in Ep 5 of Heroes playing some villain that can create time/space vortexes.

It gets taken down for copywright violation every now and again but, because they simpy link to a uncatalogued megavideo posting, they seem to get it back up and relinked to a new post within a few days each time.

FX (BSkyB channel 165) will be repeating the entire series this year sometime, keep an eye on www.fxuk.com to find out when.

Although unfortunately FX does not offer sub-titles so sometimes it is hard to know what those mother fuckers are going on about.

FX also have David Simon's 'Generation Kill' mini-series, starting from 25th January. Rock and roll.

For any of you who are interested, FX (BSkyB Channel 165 in case I haven't mentioned it before) will be showing 'The Corner' - the 6-part miniseries by David Simon that acts as a pre-cursor to the The Wire - starting tomorrow (Monday) night at 11pm.

I can't remember if it was you Mex who said that they'd read Homicide: A Year On The Street, the David Simon book? But that scene with the photocopier really happened - quite a few times. It seems to have been almost a standard technique with the Balmer Police Department.

One of the things I liked most about s5 was precisely that it didn't complete all the stories - the fucked up, corrupt world just goes on... It's just all in the game.

The ending was nice.

I had a think about some of the names who don't make it into the final montage and almost shed a tear.

Not too sure about Marlo's ending though.

I have a wire problem.

I got season two through the post and watched it all in a week. Some nights I watched 3 episodes in one nite finishing at three in the morning. It made me late for work. I feel dirty and ashamed. I am waiting for 3 and 4 to be delivered now - I ordered both in one go such is the state of my affliction.

I am posting this in an attempt to stop others going down the same sorry path. Be careful people, I thought I was in control, but I've let myself down, and I've let my family down.

Yeah I've heard people say this before - it doesn't seem to really kick in until about ep four or five. Don't worry Axs, watch it and it will come.

I got series 1 for xmas, watched 5 episodes so far and getting into it more each episode.

Just started the second series tonight. Hope it does keep getting better and better, the first series was alright, but nothing spectacular.

I downloaded most of the first series but can't get through the first episode. Not that it's bad (I dunno yet), although it didn't seem amazing, more because I've seen the first half three times now before bailing/falling asleep. I do like the bit at the start where some kids being questioned on why they let some other kid in on buying crack (or something) if he always tried to run off with the money.

I guess it never really clicked with me that the first series must be 7(?) or so years old now. I think I was expecting something more polished (production wise, not grittiness of the stories) I guess, I dunno, something about the way it's shot reminds me of Diagnosis Murder.

The fact none of them a PC is a bit weird.

I watched the 1st couple of episodes and gave up,now i hear you have to stick with it as its a grower but I really cant be bothered.

I might finally get through the first episode as it's on the telly at the moment and I can do other things whilst it's on.

That is the great thing about The Wire, you can do other things while watching it. They never, ever reveal crucial bits of plot detail - including the off screen death of major characters - through small bits of chatter.

And it's not on iPlayer.

For those that are interested, season 2 starts tomorrow night on BBC2 at 11.30ish.  It's on every weeknight until the season is complete like they did with season 1 a few weeks ago!

Hopefully they are doing the same for seasons over the coming months!

Really starting to get into this now, for some reason series 2 has been more interesting for me than series 1 (so far).

Not happy with the scheduling on the Beeb though. Now only being shown 3 nights a week and still at rediculous times. Still, if it's only 3 hours in a week I may just end up recording them and watching them at the weekend, that way I can get more sleep!
