Title: Your worst ever job.
Post by: BANGKOK RED on Wednesday, January 9, 2008, 15:41:16
The position that I am currently in is very close indeed, in fact the saving Grace is that working from home with an internet connection, this forum has probably helped me to keep my sanity, I think wibble.

The repetition and boredom is oppressing, and the absolute "Dead endness" makes it that much more unbearable.

At least when I accepted the job I knew that it is just a temporary solution until I find something suitable and so I am safe in the knowledge that it was on no way a (Disastrous) career move.

On a brighter note though, I have a job interview with a good company and I think that I should fit in and enjoy the job very much. It should also offer me interesting and varied career options for the future also.

Fuck me I hope that I get it, wish me luck innit.

Whilst working my way through Uni, I took on loads of shit jobs.

The worst one was at a place called Faccenda, a chicken processing plant.

Live chickens came in...................................Frozen chickens (And bits) went out.

I lasted 2 nights..............

any number of shitty factory packing jobs.

I fucking hated working at MANERF as well. That's when my utter hatred of anything German started.

Faccenda! In Norton St Philip?

That's where I live now (NSP, not the old factory)

Someone burnt that factory down a few years back. The site is still in the village waiting for a buyer...

Iv'e had my fair share of shitty temp factory jobs as well: St. Ivel (Putting lids on yoghourt pots), packing cd's into cases and one where I had to do nothing but push a button on some sort of address stamping machine. But I found that there where usually a few like minded souls and we generally had the crack.

I lasted about 4 days at the MacDonalds drive through on Great Western Way. In my of my training I was actually given instructions on how to sleep a fucking floor and was shocked to find that an Answers and Question's session followed. I refused to answer any question as I found it soooooo fucking patronising, and because I asked no questions I was put down as a BUMBASS!!!!! I found the pride that some of the staff held in the stars on their name badges embarassing and I think that it was a comment along the lines of (I couldn't care less about some f'in gold star) that got me the sack.

Just tele-marketing, it might not be so bad if I had some work colleague's around me but working from home on my own is the shit's. No real incentive either as in about 7 months I have made 0.00 in comission.

Still though, as I have said I knew before that I even accepted the job that it was just a filler until I find something better.

As a teenager me and a mate got £80 each for cleaning out the cellar of our local newsagents. It was fucking disgusting. Dirty, smelly, dead rats... had to clear up a load of old stock and lob it in a skip.

Best thing was we found a box load of porno mags, which to a couple of 14 year olds was a fucking goldmine and better than the £80 we got paid :D

That was without a doubt my worst job as well.  I was 15 at the time (summer 1988) and the temp agency I went through suggested I lie about my age to get the job.  I lasted three weeks and couldn't stand the place.  Made me shudder to think there were people who had worked there for most of their working lives.

My second worst job was on the production line at the Anchor Butter factory at Blagrove.  I was probably 16 then.  My job, for 2 weeks, was to scoop a cup of salt from a vat and pour it on to an unsalted block of New Zealand butter as it passed me on the conveyer.  Shifts started at 6am, and to counter the tiredness and boredom I actually learned to do this with my eyes closed - which lead to a reprimand towards the end of the 2 weeks for being asleep on the job.  Happy days.

They do seem to say that women are more disgusting then men, you always imagine it the other way around though.....

I think my worst job was probably temping for Zurich..putting training litreture (sp ?) into boxes..the only upside was I could perv on and flirt with the young girl that was doing it with me - didn't get anywhere though, she wouldn't give me a go on her  :soapy tit wank:

The shortest time in a job I ever had was as a scaffolder.....foreman: Reg...could you move thoose scaffolding poles over there.   Reg: Why?  foreman: You're sacked mate, you don't ask questions, just do as you're told.

the only job i've really loathed was a summer temp job where i was told i'd be answering phones and so on only to discover they expected me to stuff envelopes and postmark them for a whole day.

i never went back and never got paid for that day of work either...

longest i've lasted in a job is about 6 months i think and i've been sacked from all but one.

How could I forget.

My first "Job" in Thailand was teaching English to Thai's

I had NO qualifications, NO training and NO clue.

I was given some workbook to work from which was full of grammatical errors: "I like go shopping", "I am liking this movie" ect, which I pointed out to the owner of this "School".

His response was:
Him "You have degree?"
Me "No"
Him "Well then I right, you wrong!"

One day a student of mine questioned the spelling of 'quayside', which went to headmaster and he argued that the student was correct in that his spelling of 'keyside' was correct. He also went onto say:

"You terrible teacher, you fired", to which I replied:

"Correction. You are a terrible teacher, and you are fired"

Terrible job, but at least I got the last word.

Whilst I was at secondary-school my friends dad owned a corner-shop. He brought in 'special magazines' and gave them out free. Until the head of the year confiscated them all

Turned up at the interview with a local who was smacked off his tits we both got the job.  He lasted an hour I lasted a day.  The amount of abuse was unbelievable.

For me job satisfaction is knowing that you have acheived something significant, or that you are noted for having a particular skill.

Despite me starting this thread I have had many jobs that I have liked, even loved. Sales is one of them, especially cold-line sales because the lead/prospect sit's down in front of you absolutlely adamant (Ant music yeah, to save anyone the bother) that they will never ever ever buy anything from you, yet 4 hours or so later they are putting pen to paper. For me that sense of victory makes the job so rewarding.

Also, when I worked for Nationwide life b4 I came here I was known for being able to apply lateral thinking towards problem solving and was therefore often called upon for help, and called into meetings. For me that kind of thing gave me a sense of importance and appreaction which made me leave work knowing that I had done a good day's graft.

I don't know how old you are Yoevil, but there is something out there for everybody mate!

anchor was alright. did it for a couple of months putting the sex cream tins on the production line.

that fucking chcken factory was pretty fucking hellish. my job: to break the chickens legs and stick them in their tummy. i was all trenchcoats and meat is murder so i saw it as a mental challenge to toughen me up.

parcelforce in brum had its moments. theres an estate called lee bank and the vans had been robbed so many times we had a policeman on a horse escorting us every day from 9am -10 am.

Lee Bank has been flattened and is now the swanky park central estate.

I did 6 summers as a labourer on a building site which I loved, the worst would be one day packing magazines for Sky, total gash.  I enjoyed a job I did for a week when I had my own crane for loading bags of plastic into tankers, that was fun.

Did you ever manage to slip a few dodgy words in and keep it straight faced ?   Never been a teacher, but I do like to think that I am responsible for a few Americans that I met taking that well known British greeting "bollocks!" back to their home town thinking it meant "have a nice day".

I worked in a toolbox factory in melbourne cutting, shaping and welding sheet steel into toolboxes and chests. no safety guards on the machines (which were about a hundred years old) - saw some horrific accidents in there. Fortunately I made it out with nothing more than a few small scars on my hands. Bizarrely I quite enjoyed the job but wouldn't want to do it long term for fear of losing a hand.

When I left the lads made me a toolbox and signed their names in the paint before it was cooked. good bunch of people - we always had a good laugh.

I guess thats not my worst job then  :?

i did once have a temp job at WHSmiths warehouse that involved emptying the water / piss / whatever out of plastic totes and restacking them. I did that for a whole day which I thought was good going.

Had an interview this morning, which I think wen't very well. The only thing in Thailand is that with so few Jobs available for foreigners (Asides from teching), the job market is extremely competetive. It's a job that I think that I will really enjoy as well, and the money isn't bad either.

Finger's crossed and that eh!
