Title: Hoist, petard Post by: pauld on Monday, January 7, 2008, 19:18:12 This made oi larf, Jeremy Clarkson wrote one his standard "I haven't got a damn clue what I'm on about but I'm going to bang on about it anyway" pieces in which he said everyone was whinging about id theft and to prove it published his bank details, confident that no-one would be able to use the details to steal money off him. One enterprising (and generous spirited) reader promptly set up a £500 direct debit to a diabetes charity using his bank details, cue red-faced pompous pundit.

Title: Hoist, petard Post by: axs on Monday, January 7, 2008, 22:33:54 I read his column on saturday in the paper where he publically admitted he had fucked up and was stupid, at least he had the balls to admit it.
Title: Hoist, petard Post by: Barry Scott on Monday, January 7, 2008, 23:49:55 That's funny. I like Clarkson though. Fair play for doing that, because he's proved me wrong as well. - I used to have my bank details published on eBay.
I'd love to know how it was done, because that's seriously hard to do and ting. Title: Hoist, petard Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, 08:04:28 Relatively easy. When you complete direct debit mandates online all you require is a sort code, account number and account name.

I feel thick now, because that's clearly easy. Title: Hoist, petard Post by: genf_stfc on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, 11:42:34 if only you could do it for your own gas bill... I suppose the fact that they would know the address where the gas bill is being paid would be a slight flaw
