I used to be a hardcore Manics fan, went to see 'em at Birmingham NEC in '02. They were pretty good. I'm gutted that they're playing loads of tunes from The Holy Bible on the current tour, if I'd known that I'd have gone to Bristol or something :(

They're wank now.

Perhaps you should drive to Bristol and see Teenage Fanclub instead.

It was quite funny, half the crowd were the modern bunch, and the other half were the old school crowd. The Holy Bible stuff was amazing, they ended the gig with Motorcycle Emptiness and Motown Junk and the crown went ballistic!!!!

Motorcycle Emptiness - top tune, one of my all time favourites songs.

I saw them at Carling Apollo in April, and somewhere else in London last year (can't remember) and they finished with that and Design for life.

New stuff isn't as good as the early material, last album was some of their best stuff for a while, got good write ups but didn't sell well.

I always though Removables was a bit of a gem.

Only ever liked a handful of their songs to be honest.

One of the few truly outstanding tracks on Everything Must Go, the Nirvana influence in the lyrics is very obvious which is no surprise as the band openly admitted that Richey wrote the lyrics whilst on a Nirvana binge following Kurt's death.

Listening to that track as we speak. I may sound thick, but what does 'All removables, are transitory' actually mean?

A John Lennonesque 'imagine no posessions' perhaps?

That was my interpretation.

The only thing that springs to mind are the lyrics from Die In The Summertime, where Richey laments growing up and getting old, something he was terrified of. I think the lyrics - or the chorus at least - of Removables are similar in as much as he's saying that everything is temporary and passes, nothing ever lasts.

Maybe I'm reading into it too much though.

I can't believe it's 10 years since Richie went missing, I'm sure it was 1995.

I remember in 2002 he was officially declared dead as he'd been missing 7 years, and from what I read you have to wait that long before that can be done.

February 1995 I think.

I downloaded a comical documentary on Richey called 'The Vanishing of Richey Manic' a few months ago, it's got lots of stupid cult of Richey fans banging on about how brilliant he was and that their lives are worthless etc etc etc. It's also got Boy George in it for some reason. I could upload it if anyone's interested, it's a laugh.

I'd be interested to see that if you get time to upload it Sonic.

Mainly to see why Boy George was on it! It's sad that people take it so seriously. Yes, it's sad he went missing/could be dead but it's so much worse for family and friends rather than fans who don't know him apart from seeing him on stage and maybe grabbing a word after the concert.

It's the fanatical Manics fans that put me off the band in the end, Richey disappearing made them about 10,000 times worse.

Just put the cd on and 'Removables' is definitely Nirvana influenced. Its annoying that when you turn the cd round you have to turn it upside down to read the track names!.
