Title: The Taste Test Thread Post by: magic8ball on Monday, January 7, 2008, 12:57:25 I often find myself, at home, wondering what to eat for my lunch.
Often, I've nipped down to the local supermarket, or possibly a meatball marinara baguette from Subway, but I am conscious of my health, and try to get a few fruit an veg in each day. During my last shopping trip, I found myself in the tinned canned aisle. Soup has always been a favourite of mine, but there's only so much mulligatawny soup a man can eat. So I turned to beans. Heinz beans. Everybody likes beans on toast don't they? Well I do, but I was feeling adventurous, so I grabbed 3 tins, one smokey BBQ, one sweet chilli and one Mexican. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z3/pagey123/heinzBakedBeanzSmokeyBBQ.jpg First, I cooked up the Smokey BBQ with three pieces of well buttered toast. I was impressed. They had managed to maintain the original bean taste whilst encompassing a pleasant BBQ flavour. I enjoyed them, and would give them 7 out of 10. Next I cooked up the sweet chilli beans. Again, they were joined by three pieces of toast, well-buttered. It was long before the wife floated downstairs, interested in the sweet aroma. I took my place at the table to chow down, and was instantly joined by a fork wielding female. I knew I wasn't going to get a great deal of this meal, however, the bits that I did manage to get were quite spectacular. My palette experienced the sweetness of the chilli, along with the great taste of the beans. I've since bought two more tins of this stuff. 9 out of 10. Today was the turn for the Mexican beans. As I poured them into a pan, the difference in colour was immediately noticeable, with a much darker brown look on offer. The aroma hit me immediately, though not unpleasant. It went down nicely, No complaints to be had, although the taste just wasn't quite up to the previous standards. 6 out of 10. If anybody else has any recommendations, or feels the need to complain about some sort of food item, please feel free to add it. I hate microwaves too, ours has blown up more than once, so I'm a bit scared to use it. Now go and post a new rack on the appropriate thread, I'm in need of rackage. You crazy cunt! Either there is nothing left after 3 mins or you have a microwave from 1986! Title: The Taste Test Thread Post by: Lumps on Monday, January 7, 2008, 13:27:38 Beans explode in microwaves and make a bloody mess.
Either you have to over them and then zap them for 30 seconds at a time, stirring between each 30 second burst, which is a pain in the arse if you've covered them with clingfilm, or you have to scrub out the microwave afterwards. Wake them in a saucepan FFS. Title: The Taste Test Thread Post by: Chubbs on Monday, January 7, 2008, 13:27:38 you'l be telling me you make scambled eggs in the microwave, now thats just wrong.
Title: The Taste Test Thread Post by: McLovin on Monday, January 7, 2008, 14:15:06 Scrambled eggs in the microwave are fine! I don't own a microwave, but i remember the simplicity...

Title: The Taste Test Thread Post by: land_of_bo on Monday, January 7, 2008, 14:48:07 Microwaves are just plain wrong. When mine breaks I am not replacing it. The only thing I use it for is defrosting rolls.
You need to invent your own bean flavour my friend. Back when I was a lad and one of my mates lodged with me, inspired by "Sprouts of evil" from Bottom we proceed to make "Beans of evil". Basicaly Heinz Baked beans, but with a few added extras. Chilli Powder Curry Powder Tobasco Sauce Jack Daniels (Just a splash!) Cheese Worcester Sauce Extra hot chilli sauce bought from kebab shop Whatever else is in your cupboard/spice rack! Anything goes really, just add the ones you want one by one, always ensuring you've got some chilli in there until you find the formula that works for you! I don't think evil is a strong enough word for that lot! I have experimented with piri piri sauce in beans, which is quite tasty, but yet to find a recipe that matches the sweet chilli. You soon forget about it and it's not really a major inconvenience to either cook properly or use an oven or hob to heat ready made food.

Also, its common knowledge that if you look at a microwave while its heating something for more than five seconds, you will go blind and your family will all turn to stone.
