Title: luton's troubles
Post by: lebowski on Saturday, January 5, 2008, 19:14:19
read in the guardian today that one of their players (don't know who) is on £7k a week. that is huge money for division 3.

no wonder they're in the shasta.

in the last 9 weeks their players have received only 2 1/2 weeks worth of pay. the management team all had to chip in to pay the £500 filing fee to appeal one of the red cards they got against bristol rovers.

also, they have been in administration 3 times now.

anyway, good luck luton.

And they had the cheek to ask Liverpool to give up their gate receipts for tomorrows game.

the administrators asked, as you would expect them to really.

i remember chelsea donated their share of gate receipts to scarborough a few years ago.

liverpool declined the request.

Cunts they are then. What is something like 100k to fucking Liverpool.

On another note i was SSN yesterday and it seems that Luton are going to have to sell some of their players. They have no choice. Things really are bad there. Makes us look good sadly.

what's cheeky about it? it's not as if liverpool are on the verge of going out of business.

just another example of the self-ordained and self-proclaimed "big four" losing touch with reality and their roots.

Liverpool rejected cash-strapped Luton's request to forgo their share of the gate receipts for Sunday's FA Cup third round tie. Luton, who are in administration, could go out of business on Monday. (Various)

Aren't Liverpool actually in massive debt themselves cos these yanks have borrowed all the takeover money?

I hope we get Liverpool in round 4 and they ask us to concede our gate receipts

seems to like the kind of thing that should be offered, not asked for, otherwise everyone will start doing it.

the request shouldn't have been made public imo.
it would be a nice gesture, but liverpool didn't get luton into the shit they are in.

Imho Liverpool, like Luton, are a business. Why should they stump up their share of the gate receipts?

Fair play to Luton for asking... End of the day we know how it feels to be in the shit and atleast they are lookign for a way out.

and Blackwell is in the paper today saying the FA should have done more to help them..ah I don't think so, if the club gets into trouble due to over-spending they want the FA to help - no fucking chance

Apparently, when they were bottom of the Championship last season, the club dished out new long-term contracts to 3 players, on Championship wages, when they should've put a clause in the players contracts that is they do get relegated, they get a pay reduction.

That could so easily have been us selling players (or worse).

Read in the paper this morning that they could be helped out if Pompey sell Matthew taylor (which it looks like they will do). He's former Luton, so they should get around half a million with the sell-on clause.

i'd hate for him to return and not produce the goals and displays he did years ago.

i'd hate for the boo boys to start going on at him cos he's not scoring

A lucky watch? Is it Bernard's watch? What would you do if you had Bernard's watch? I suppose it would be more what would you do first as you'd have time to do whatever you'd want.

because we weren't getting players sold left right and center
we didnt go into administration
we didnt actually get a published fixed deadline saying we had to get all debts paid up by date

it was bad, but i feel our plight was slightly over-exaggerated a tiny bit. Theres no doubt we had a terrible board in charge, but we weren't in a position as bad as luton are.

Good luck to both Luton and Bournemouth. Having been there and done that (twice), I feel for the supporters of both clubs.

I guess we'll never quite know how close to the brink we were really, but all I know is that I never want to go through the pain and uncertainty of the last 5+ years again.
