Title: Fickle Fans
Post by: stfc_steve on Tuesday, January 1, 2008, 21:02:27
Today was a good performance seeing as we played alot of it with 10 men and everyone of our players showed commitment, the support from fans when we went 1-0 down was fantastic although more and more often i am seeing certain areas of the crowd booing our own players, its not on, you come to support the team not slag it off constantly. I may be a big fan of pook but today il b honest he had a bad game, but others have a bad game and get away with it. The same with Zaaboub at Bournmouth, getting booed off, what the fuck.

I think people were booing at the reaction Zoob gave at being subbed. It was a tactical sub, if we had 2 strikers on causing problems up front Swanseas defence would have to stay back most of the time, and not be pushing up and putting more pressure on us.

Booing our own players is still not on though, support the team.

Booers are cock's... period.

I remember playing Hereford in some mickey mouse cup some time, we lost and Chalkie White scored (The Hereford fans looked shocked when about 50% of our fans applauded chalkie for scoring AGAINST us).

We where top of the league at the time yet the Boo boy's where about because we lost. A mate of mine had to stop me from having a proper go.

None of that in the town end. Apart from the usual Pook slaters it was all support for the team. Great to see.

I think it was that game which convinced McMahon, that STFC fans weren't scousers.  He just couldn't get how yoiu could cheer a player scoring against you.

on the subject of strange supporters, i can never understand why people clap someone who has just got himself sent off after just 20 minutes against the top of the table side.

I always find it strange when the crowd clap a player when he gets stretchered off.

"Well done, you broke your leg, well played, you'll get a few months off work now, good for you"

WTF??

It's the Pook haters that are the ones that fuck me right off. They just fucking slate him just because they fancy it even when he does nothing wrong. Fucking thick. So many of our fucking 'fans' do it. These are then also the type of stupid fans that have a go at you when you actually have something to abuse them about when playing shite. Rah rah rah fucking shut up.

i'm starting to think arriba has a point about our fans needing a scapegoat.

someone sat behind me was moaning about pook nearly all game. i can't be bothered arguing with people like that anymore, so i just cheered and gave pook support whenever he did something right. i never used to rate pook but he's improved considerably over the past 18 months and i think many of our fans are still living in the past.

he must be coming up for 100 appearances, no?

pook did get caught in possesion a couple of times today.but options were limited.he did alright overall i thought.they all did it at times today.
i hate it that he gets booed when his names read out,and every mistake is greeted with abuse.some of our so called fans are waiting for the mistakes just to have a go.
i would boo a player that doesn't give his all.pook aint in that catagory.we do have quite a high proportion of pricks that go to town games.

If I ever met Pooky I think I would tell him he's doing a decent job and that the people who boo him are total pricks. Been much better this season and is as worthy of a place in the side as anybody else there

Our fans have always been like it and it won't get any better. A lot of them deliberately look for reasons not to come, and a few on this forum are guilty. I can't believe the amount of "Oh if so and so becomes manager I'm not going anymore".

What kind of a fucking fan is that?

In fairness though this has been done hugely with the protests etc and staying away for one reason or another is a supporters right. I've had a season ticket for in excess of 10 years but for example me personally I would struggle to support Martin Allen if he was appointed manager. I would find it hard to get behind such a vile little man and during his spell in charge I would probably lose some of the passion.
If you don't agree with something and feel you can't offer support as a result then that doesn't make you any more or less of a fan than anyone else.

To be honest SY, I'm less than impressed with Byrne's histrionics on the touchline. I don't recall Allen being much worse than that, I bet the opposition fans would have a pretty negative view of him.

Paynter always seems to be a "lumberer" but he made some good defensive challenges and was unlucky for their goal. He did play in a few unfamiliar positions as well. The next 3 games will be important for him, but i'd still like to see Corr/Paynter for a few games in harness (if we don't retain Cox of course)

I think he just has a physique that makes him look lazy. He had to play centre mid second half and although not his position did a job. If he gets a few goals he'll probably go on a run again, he's a useful player to have

Perhaps he thought Macca was being ironic  :D  I think Pook has been OK when I've seen him play this year although he barely got a touch against Hartlepool.  He dives in a bit and passes go astray but no worse than anyone else.  My eldest lad (who hasn't been to the County Ground since the Ndah/Walters days) met him in Bath over Xmas and refused to believe he played for Swindon even though the Pookster kept showing him text messages from the club about the takeover.  Said he was a thoroughly decent bloke who bought him a few beers

I don't see myself as fickle - I slate half our players but at least I do it consistantly.

I don't understand this idea that we have to love all of our players. We pay our money...

i thought he did today what he normaly does, hassles the opposition. He made one hell of a block just before they scored, and considering he was playing as a holding center mid for most of the second half i thought he did alright.

Paynter looks lost because he was playing out of position.

First half he looked a bit lazy and didnt chase as much as Cox....on the flip side he was probably saving his energy for later knowing the game would be stretched and everyone would get tired.

Really, in a game like that you can let Swansea have the ball on the edge of their own box.

Aljofree and Vincent did seem to pull up a few times, so I think they were feeling it.

Simon Cox was chasing everything, even in cases when he would have been better off holding his position and letting the right back have it (like Paynter was) I thought he'd be totally fucked up 65 minutes...

I remember seeing him in injury time at the Hartlepool game when we were trying to run down the clock and lost the ball. Byrne suddenly looked like a furiously flapping penguin, hopping on the spot with his arms like little wings going up and down. It was hilarious - but only after we had won of course.
