No chance..........ex Oxford manager (managed them twice) so if he was appointed it would be a HUGE mistake and be a bad bad bad start for Fitton et al

Makes sense for Whitbread to be there if Allen's in the running - or he could be scouting for someone.

As for Smith, dear god no.

One of the images from 1990 and the double relegation for the financial 'irregularities' which I won't ever forget is of Dennis Smith (then manager of Sunderland) cracking open the champagne to celebrate Sunderland's 'promotion' in our place.

No ta.

He's been out of the game too long I'd suggest not up with all the modern ways of coaching etc, he may be someone that board have spoken to for advice of football matters, or he may just be an aquantance of Wray.

He was at Wrexham until last season so not that long, just don't like the bloke and his history doesn't do him any favours

Aside from the obvious Scum links, Smith does have a bit of a track record of getting in quality players....eg buying Andrew Cole for Shitty.  Getting Enzo Maresca for WBA, and Carlos Edwards for Wrexham.

I've always kind of liked Smith, which goes back to his playing days as a Stokie, when they had a good few years in the early 70's....with the likes of Buzz Conroy, Peter Dobing and the late John Ritchie.

Smith was a really hard but fair type centre half.....think he broke his leg at least 4 times, but he always came back.

Maybe Fitton is attracted by his eye for a bargain.

I'm not....clearly Fitton knows his stuff and isn't going to be put off by fans thinking because Smith worked for O*frod, and got them promoted, it should disqualify him from the job.

Also if Fittin wants to get involved on the coaching side, then an older manager looking after player acquisition and some media duties, may well suit.

It's nice he still does work for them despite him leaving 6 months ago.
