Heard today that Ling has had talks with Fitton, and has been offered the job with Zippy as his assistant, but there is one stumbling block at the moment; David Byrne. Apparently  Ling will not take the job if Byrne is at the club for some reason or another.

Personally, I think that Byrne's work with the youths has been fantastic, and that the first team manager shouldnt have the final say on who the director of youth is. if this is the case, I'd rather see Bynre stay with the youths and someone else comes in than Ling brings his own youth team coach in and gets the job.

Ive heard this too (link and bodin) however I think he should have control over the whole club.

managers usually get the final say.if ling or whoever wants their own men in then thats the way it will be.

i heard that he'd been offered the job with bodin as his assistant as well, but that was at least a fortnight ago. if he'd been offered the job that long ago you'd think he'd either have accepted or rejected it by now.

I'm not saying Ling won't be our next manager, but this rumour is bollocks.

I agree. How exactly does something like that get beyond the Board Room? I mean who would have been there? Fitton, Ling and some other assorted Board members.

The only way details like that get out is if, say, Ling goes straight in the CGH afterwards for a pint and starts giving it the big one. Somewhat unlikely I think.

Why would Ling not wanting Byrne there be a problem? Just let Ling bring in his own men .

As axs says it might not be. We might have already agreed terms with Hearn.

Surely the Chairman of plymuff had a chat with Sturrock before an official approach, after all is there anything illegal in calling someone up and having a chat. Happens all the time.

I still think that Fitton want's Ling, especially after an interview saying that he is willing to look for somebody who is already employed. I just have a gut feeling that Ling is our man, and I would not be surprised if Fitton makes an approach for Calderwood either  :shock:  :shock:  :shock:

Let's not forget Ling can resign if he wants to come here as well.

far be it for me to be the one to piss on people's cornflakes, but if a deal had been done then ling would be manager by now.

if ling is the next boss it wont be confirmed until the takeover is confirmed on jan11th. it makes sense for both parties ling wont want to come here and find the takeovers off in the next 2 weeks.

Could have but very unlikely given Hearn's previous comments of not allowing him to go unless its to a higher division. Fitton of course could have waved quite a bit of money in his face to get his man. I know Ling is pissed off that Orient are not getting more fans...

Byrne's done nothing out of the ordinary with the youths.  Or can someone show me something I've missed.  He's inherited a decent set up/players etc and carried on the good work done by his predecessors.

I have also heard the lingy rumour, from a very reliable source... if that helps.
