Title: Is this a good laptop? Post by: Bushey Boy on Friday, December 28, 2007, 23:25:07 OK Laptop been playing about for last few months, keeps crashing and not sure whats up with it. Its 4 years old, other PCs in office are all on vista or whatevere and im stuck on xp?! I have new software coming in Jan so need to act fast. Also Ive stolen someone elses power lead now as mine didnt power up anymore as I keep birning them out.
I use the following:- Word Excel Outlook A software package for my work (not massive) Msn Internet Acobat r something for pictures I dont do any gaming but must be wireless?! Id prefer Dell as its leasing which helps with cashflow but if not will at a push buy outright up to about £650? Not sure if I have gone on too much here but im cack at computers Title: Is this a good laptop? Post by: axs on Friday, December 28, 2007, 23:27:48 in that case i would suggest what you have above would certainly be capable, you could even get a cheaper one if you only want it for surfing and MS Office stuff.
There's people on here who know a lot more about this stuff than me though, hopefully one of them will pipe up. Title: Is this a good laptop? Post by: pumbaa on Friday, December 28, 2007, 23:28:24 My only concern would be the Celeron processor, but I guess thats why its 'competitively priced'. Dated technology.

dont get a dell and dont go to pc world Title: Is this a good laptop? Post by: sonic youth on Saturday, December 29, 2007, 00:51:01 those are more than two words, seb.
so long as you're not a mug and get sucked in by pc world's megasuperspecial offers, then there's fuck all wrong. i picked my laptop (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1018437955.1198888747@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdgaddmliiejdfcflgceggdhhmdfoj.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=351066&category_oid=-27749) up from pc world for £470. dell's are decent and you can get some good deals as a business buyer, check here (http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/results.aspx/notebooks?~ck=anav&c=uk&l=en&s=bsd&cs=ukbsdt1&a=14~0~42&navla=14~0~42) Title: Is this a good laptop? That one has got a decent processor and 2gb of memory which will be handy if you're running Vista. 5 star reviews too. £439.98, don't forget to claim your VAT back! There's plenty to look at online. Just don't get a celeron processor and try and get one with 2gb of ram if you're running vista Title: Is this a good laptop? Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 01:25:44 Can someone find me a decent desktop and then buy it for me cos I'm skint? I don't need a monitor.
Title: Is this a good laptop? Post by: Peter Venkman on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 10:39:56 Avoid Celerons they are slow, outdated and poor compared to newer and often cheaper alternatives.

Title: Is this a good laptop? Post by: Peter Venkman on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 15:09:09 I must admit I have spent over £25,000 at Ebuyer in the past and never had even 1 bad experience I use them certainly 2 or 3 times a month for the last 5 or 6 years.
I have not heard of anyone having any bad experiences of Ebuyer apart from you mr axs. Title: Is this a good laptop? Post by: axs on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 15:14:03 in that case i feel incredibly unlucky!
i've tried to buy two things from them, the first time it was faulty and they wouldn't replace it until i called in trading standards and they gave me a refund, the second time (6 months later) they guaranteed a delivery in time for christmas (this was three weeks before), they gave three delivery dates and none of them turned up and they eventually told me that they had no stock and would not be getting any in so i cancelled the order. Title: Is this a good laptop? Post by: Bushey Boy on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 15:19:38 Just back, got a sony vaio, its a intel core 2 duo processor (i avoided that celeron) 2 gb memory, 200gb hdd?

Title: Is this a good laptop? Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 16:27:46 I know there was a huge batch of Dell batteries which blew up and set the things on fire. Never heard it with Vaios though, I suppose it's down to who makes the battery.
£600 is alright for a decent laptop. I suppose you can claim back £90 off the taxman anyway BB :) Title: Is this a good laptop? Post by: Bushey Boy on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 17:02:19 Nah im the redueced VAT where I dont claim back, meaning I only pay 10% VAT
