I'm getting over a particularly nasty Christmas cold, so my Yeovil ticket is going to be unused.  I'd settle for our first away win at Yeovil in 45 years.

I remember that one....17 year old Don Rogers playing his second game destroyed them.   Winning on the notorious Huish slope was quite an achievement.   If that had happened today, we'd have sold him for 500K rising according to appearances.

We have only played there the once since.

It was the FA Cup...we got through to play Everton at the CG  in R4....26000+ think Everton won the league that year and they mullered us. 5-1

It was also the last time we had really heavy snow which hung around for a long time.

We played QPR around then on  a pitch of rolled snow, with blue lines, the players wore basketball boots and some even wore gloves it was so cold.

Has anyone else spotted that Moonraker is showing at 3pm on ITV1?  I think this is a good omen - we should, at least, have a good 2nd half.

I don't recall that one being about the recurring theme of Wiltshiremen trying to avoid Customs and Excise, but with our away record, we need all the help we can get.

Are you implying that - in playing games with HMRC - Diamandis (and Hillier before him) was simply guarding an age old Wiltshire tradition?

Surely STFC by giving the commentary rights to Brunel should technically expect a decent service and so far the service i.e. commentary has been poor, and with them supposedly being "official media partners" I'd suggest they are not holding up their side of the deal.

And you may recall that Ben Lambert conducted a survey of the service earlier this year. I suspect he got a barrage of complaints. He certainly did from me. Has anything been done? You be the judge.....

In all fairness to Brunel FM, its not their fault that the commentary keeps breaking up. Thats Premium TV's fault, and did exactly the same as frequently when Radio Swindon were doing the commentary.

As I said earlier, I won't be renewing my subscription when it runs out in two days.

So its got to the point where even the injured first team players won't go on Brunel, so they have to rope the kids in. Or maybe its a christmas thing, you know, delegate the job to the kids whilst the injured first teamers spend the day with their families.

He did. I do try not to sound like a broken record bashing Brunei, but really.

He also said it was a polite way of saying what they were singing when it just plain was what they were singing.

Well that was a game of 2 halves!

1st half we were crap, they were as crap but hit the post with a good effort.

2nd half we were all over them, well for 40 minutes anyway, we came out on fire and everyone played better after the break.

Brezovan...catch the bloody ball man..otherwise he did nowt wrong at all.
Comminges...got better as the game went on, worked the line well when he got over the half way line along with JPM.
Ifil...Immense
Aljofree...Stewart had the better of him early on and got injured early on.
Vincent...did better at centre half than at fullback, did ok.

McGovern...1st half he wasnt there 2nd half he tore them apart with some trickery and did very well.
Peacock...1st half poor 2nd half did ok, made some good challenges but gave the ball away a fair bit too.
Easton...not the best game I have seen him play but didnt really put a foot wrong in the second half, good passing and moving forwards.
Kaid Mohamed...1st half he was attrocious, 2nd half was one of the best player for us skinning the right back at every chance, improve his corssing and he will be a good winger.

Cox...unbelieveable work rate, great passing and reading the game, great run and crosses, man of the match by far a goal and he would have 10/10.
Corr...did well, took his goal well but too was lost first half. had a lot of niggles with Skiverton until Skivvy thumped him full on and deserved to go, trickled his goal in beautifully!

Nicholas...looked composed and attacked well a good game.
Allen...didn't hardly kick the ball when he came on.
Paynter...looked lethargic but overall did ok.

to sum it up...1st half 3/10 second half 9/10, about 1,000 Town fans there in good voice in the second half outsinging the home yokels and that bloody annoying drum!

Well happy with that result!

PS...great to see Fred and Hertha again and a very merry christmas to you all!

Just got in, immense second half, McGovern and Mohamed were abysmal and sublime in the first and second halfs respectively.

We absolutely must sign cox, he got the reception he deserved at the end, workjed his nuts off.

Ifil was brilliant, Nicholas changed the game when he came on - a left back who can actually get forward!!! Proof today that we're miles better without that overrated muppet Aljofree.

we used to play better in the second half under sturrock as well.

often teams use the first half to have a look at the other side.

it's a bit like a music festival, you use the first 3 or 4 songs to get the sound levels right.

that doesn't make any sense, how can a left-back improved the side in the absence of centre-back?

aljofree is a solid centre-back, disagree entirely. he's been playing all season with a succession of injuries as well so fair play to him.

Because Vincent was excellent when he moved inside, looked more solid than Aljofree, he's quicker than Aljofree and he doesn't always hoof the ball straight out of play (OK he's a hoofer but not as bad as Aljofree). It also meant Nicho was at LB and he's more effective there than Vincent on his day as he gets forward. Nicho was superb today as were our back four in the second half - a direct result from the catalyst that was Aljofree's departure.

That sounds like I've got a huge downer on Aljofree - I don't - however I think we look better without him and if Williams was 100% fit he shouldn't play.

Just got back from the morgue that is Huish Park!

Agree with JJ's sum up!  Also agree with Sonic, Aljofree is a quality centre back and when fit we are most definately better with him in it!

His problem today was that he was struggling to breath from his illness!  Needed to keep taking stabs from his inhaler! Unless it was a mini bong they had going on the side!

Anyway, 3 points! Onwards and upwards!

Title: Yeovil Matchday Thread.
Post by: sonic youth on Wednesday, December 26, 2007, 18:33:10
fair point. however, vincent has as much composure as a bowl of jelly whereas aljofree is the complete opposite, he knows when to hoof it out of play but is equally capable of slowing the game down, taking a touch and using the ball properly.

vincent is horribly one dimensional when he plays left-back, he can't get forward and his distribution is shocking. not only that but he's error prone and his positional sense is questionable at times.

my only complaint(s) about aljofree is that he can be a little cumbersome at times, his communication isn't brilliant either but that's a theme throughout our side.

in summary, vincent's shit, nicho's decent, aljofree's ace.

First half was woeful against a decent team we would have been in big trouble luckily Yeovil were far from decent.

Their sending off was bizarre to say the least......the ref gives them a free kick goes up field ready for it to be taken, then runs back to speak to the lino, who then sends him accross the pitch to speak to the 4th official. The ref then runs back up to our box (by this time I'm thinking Corr is going to be sent off) but to my suprise the ref sends their captain off. Then to finally make it all the more bizarre he reverses the free kick award and gives it to us. Was truely one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen and am still not sure what he was sent off for.

Second half was much better with a good goal from Corr after a good through ball from Mohammed (who unfortunately is way out of his depth in this league). Should have got a few more and were almost punished at the death when Owusu almost got his customary goal against us. Good win and good day out but a new manager is a must though as can't afford to keep starting games slowly.

Second half on the other hand we were different gravy. cox was full of running and mohammed actually got past his man and looked threatening, instead of passing it to the nearest green and white shirt as he had done all through teh first half

Commingues motm for me, closely followed by peacock. And we still continue winning on boxing day 8)

- Thanks to R4E for the Hoi Hoi Hoi hat, I'm still wearing it

Cox - Superb gives 100% - first man to applaud the fans and last man to leave the pitch.  Should be playing for us on a permanent basis.

Massive turning point for me - rubbish first half but Byrne and Williams clearly sorted it out at half time(as they did against hartlepool) so deserve credit.

We actually defended a lead as opposed to sitting back on a 1 nil lead.  Havent seen us do that in ages.

Kaid did well in 2nd half, good pace.  Nicho was good when he came on and they adjusted very well when Hasney came off - very pleasing.

Ifil was Ifil, immense as usual.  Vincent did well as well, happy with him in the team now.

Peacock and Easton worked hard and Allen looked sharp when he came on.

Absolutely chuffed with 3 points and 6 from 6.

WELL DONE THE REDS!  :beers:

True story

First half was shocking and I couldn't believe our players got clapped off after such an inept performance. The only positive was that we'd restricted their shooting opportunities.

Second half we were much better. Good goal and Corr should quite blatantly have had a penalty for a late challenge from behind. Kaid got into the game more and we actually put them under pressure in their own half.

Referee had a shocker. Gave dodgy decisions both ways - Corr should probably have gone too as he got involved in too many little scraps having already been booked, we should have had a penalty, and quite how he gave that as a corner to Yokel instead of a goal kick I will never know. Apparantly Skiverton punched Corr so I guess he got that one right!

Yeovil come across as a pathetic non-league club, complaining about the cost of policing, trying to ban us from the match initially. OK the cost were high but every other club has to fit the bill.

i don't know. it's none of my business and not my problem.

he's obviously got some sort of superiority complex, i'm sure that in itself will be his downfall.

Back to the match. Cox and Corr are fantastic, loads of hard work, determination, running the lines, and class to go with it.

I think Kaid had the match of his life! Its interesting to watch him, but I cant see him making it still. Hope he proves everyone wrong.

Someone mentioned clapping the players off at Half time. Im a bit sick of our crowd booing at HT. It should be reserved for when they are 2-0 down at half time. Not 0-0. Away!

Didnt see any police apart from in the away end, so Im not sure what the x thousand pounds was for. Plus Swindon were half asleep.

I didn't say we should boo, I just prefer to reserve my applause for times when we look like professional footballers. In the first half, we rarely did.

Just noticed that someone said Aljofree is the first name on the team sheet and another said Cox. It's worrying statements like this that leave me concerned that our most consistent and dependable player of late will be over looked again for player of the season.

There's only one player who continually gets called things like immense and fantastic and seems to have been strangely (based on the early years) consistent and excellent for the whole of last season and all of this one so far.

Nobody (even myslef here) has said how amazing Ifil played. We would have been in a lot of trouble had it not been for him.

Cox was man of the match in my opinion, but when Nicho came on he had a very good game as did Vincent (who moved into the centre- this guy is a central defender surely).

Obviously big Baz had a really good game and Mohamed was poor until the second half where he suddenly realised how to take a man on. I'm not sure he was better than Allen though. Quite how the adver gave him 8/10 is beyind me.

I'd give teddy 8 for the second half but 3 for the first half.
