Bugger me, it's football sans protest, or dull depressed pre-match faces moaning into flat pints of bad lager. Amazing what a 3-match winless streak can do.

Come on you reds:

Brez
J Smith Ifil Aljofree Vincent
Roberts Easton Pook McGovern
Cox Paynter

Corr
Zaaboub
Williams
Minge
Allen/lil keeper kid

Hi,

I run the Vital Hartlepool website and we'll be running a online commentary for todays game if any of you can't make it to the County Ground.

Hello Monkey Hanger! Thanks for the link. I think I'm the only one who hasn't gone. Skint.

Andrew Fitton, by the way, is on Radio Wiltshire now ... sounds like a nice fella. Looking for Championship footy, said would be good in three years, but doesn't want to set timescales too strictly.

Ref was atrocious, got hell of a lot of stick.  1st half was a bit flat, didnt really do anything but 2nd half IMO was superb.  Thought their effort was superb and everyone of them deserves so much credit.

We definitely have been missing Peacock and Ifil and I thought (contrary to previous opinion I had)  Vincent did well today and looked pretty solid.  Defensively we looked strong, Hasney organising them well and Commingues looked very sharp and some of his passing was superb.  Thought he read the game very well.

Peacock was excellent and him and Easton are definitely the best pairing in CM, although Im not sure how Easton managed to miss his shot but Ill forgive him for the rest of his performance.

JP worked hard and for me, Zaboub was one of the best men on that pitch today.  Instead of his bouts of laziness, his work rate was good and consistent and if he carries on playing like that then all the better for us.

Cox - excellent yet again, fitness levels looked really really good, ran everywhere and provided good cover.

Brez didn't have much to do but looked comfortable.

Corr and Paynter did well and all in all a great team performance and well deserved win.  Completely outclassed Hartlepool IMO.

What a great start to Xmas!

very well played today, everyone played bloody good.

It obviously helped that we had alot of key players coming back like Ifil, but Peacock and Vincent still get stick from some people but both are vital to the team. We look much better with both of 'em

Williams though 10/10 for his performance!

He seems to fit in well with the team and shows a lot of passion.  Id love him here permanently but can't see it happening.  Lets focus on getting him here till the end of the season first!

Hartlepool report on that site that the poolie posted earlier. A very unbiased report I am sure you'll agree.

Swindon 2  Hartlepool 1

County Ground, Swindon
22nd December 2007, 15:00
Attendance: 5875

Hartlepool's awful away form continued with another defeat, this time at Swindon Town

Report
Danny Wilson stuck with the same side that beat Crewe last weekend while Lee Bullock was included on the bench after returning from his loan spell at Bury.

Eddie Nolan was lucky to escape an immediate booking, the on loan defender challenged for the ball with a high foot but the referee let the challenge go.

On 5 minutes Pools won a corner and could have taken the lead. Robbie Elliott drifted the ball in towards an unmarked Godwin Antwi but the defender could only glance the header past the post.

Swindon were more dangerous at the beginning of the match and Barry Corr had a good chance on 10 minutes. Corr layed the ball off to Simon Cox who went on a dazzling run down the wing and played the ball into the box. Corr had made the run into the middle and Jan Budtz made a good save from the strikers shot.

Sofiene Zaaboub went down and recieved treatment while Simon Cox had a good effort from 20 yards. Lee Peacock had a shot go just over the bar as Swindon took the lions share of the possesion.

With half time fast approaching Hartlepool took the lead. The referee awarded a dubious free kick and Robbie Elliott whipped the ball into the box, after a scramble in the box Ian Moore stabbed the ball home.

HT: Swindon Town 0 Hartlepool United 1

Danny Wilson didn't make any changes at the break but did bring Michael Mackay off just 2 minutes into the second half, Ritchie Barker replacing the former Consett man.

Swindon didn't take long to equalise, just 4 minutes into the second half Miguel Comminges played the ball into the box where Simon Cox slotted the ball home.

The home crowd celebrated by singing 'We are Fitton's red and white army' to show their backing for their new chairman who rescued the club from financial ruin earlier this week.

Zaabboub went close on the hour mark but Budtz made a good save and the Pools keeper made a good reflex save to keep out a Lee Peacock header.

The home side won a penalty after Michael Nelson hauled Corr down in the box. The defender had been turned inside out by Corr and he brought him down as he sprinted towards goal. Barry Corr dusted himself down to slot home from 12 yards.

Billy Painter should have made it 3-1 when he shot wide past Jan Budtz while David Foley had a great chance to equalise down the other end. Foley latched on to a long ball and went one on one with the keeper, the younster should have done better as he dragged his shot wide.

FT: Swindon Town 2 Hartlepool United 1
Comment
Yet again a good win is followed by a poor defeat, Swindon is a tough place to go but they dominated the match today.

I think fans are getting a bit demoralised with how we are playing and we need to pick up as many points as possible over christmas if opinions are to change.

Well done Ian Moore on getting his 100th career goal, hopefully he can get some more against his old club on Boxing Day.

We're in 13th place now, 5 points from the play offs and 8 from relegation. These next few games could decide whether we're looking upwards or downwards for the rest of the season.

john is supermegasexy.

today was great. an entertaining game of football to mark the start of a new era, an atmosphere before, during and after the game of slight nervousness combined with excitement and optimism.

everyone played well. we won. it was a penalty though a little soft. cox must stay, his celebration spoke volumes. he wants to play football and loves to score goals - nuff said.

we've got our swindon back!

Having not seen the team for nearly 4 years, this was an enlightening game.

Thought we played well overall, solid first half defensively but no real threat from either side. Poor defending from a dubious free kick cost us.

Second half, different gravy. Thought we dominated the game from the kick off. Super goal from Cox, great move and a sublime finish. Didn't really see the penalty decision, but corr took it well.

Most impressed with Commingues and Zaaboub. Thought both played very well. Can JPM actually run with a ball???? Defensively solid in open play, a little nervy against set plays.

If we kick on from that second half performance, we should be sound.

Great atmosphere as well, despite a relatively low crowd.

i had a brilliant time today, although i miss protesting a little bit (we want chicken balti pies!). cox was awesome, JPM had some sublime touches but wasn't good when running, the 'boob was good generally but fucked up under pressure a bit too often for my liking. the minge was great and his balls into the box were genius at times. peacock won everything in the air and vincent was vocal at the back. Jerel was solid as normal.

this is back to a decent squad and winning ways, love it. :beers:

The chant of 'We got our Swindon back' from the town end nearly had me blubbing with pride. :D

Glad you explained the crying bit. You got a few strange looks when you got your man size tissues out. :omg2:

You might know me, but I haven't a fucking clue who you are. Go stalk someone else. Cunt.

That was Easton from inside the 6 yard box over the top.

Good game by the way!

I honestly think the buzz around the place made the players step up their game, that and whatever was said to them at half time.

All through the match I was thinking I couldn't remember the last time we had a striker in the mould of Simon Cox. He really needs to stay.

When Cox scored the fact he egged the fans to come forward and celebrate with him spoke volumes. It was as if lets have a fucking go... however sadly I dont think he will stay at Swindon  :(

Great day, even my youngest lad is now enthused about going to football again. Thought the Minge had the best game I've ever seen him play. The number of headers he won for someone of his size was staggering.  He also managed to keep his cool when that nasty fat sod Humphries was niggling away at him for the whole game.  Cox looked a class act and I just hope someone finds a way of keeping him here until the summer.  Top marks for Lee Peacock - not everything he tried came off but he kept going and was doing a hell of a lot of shouting and organising in the midfield.  Good to see everyone in the Merlin however briefly

Never been in the merlin how far from the train station is it? I normally end up in the tap and barrel, but might pop in at the Barnet game

Merlin's only a couple of minutes walk from the CG, away from the train station up towards Old Town

just saw the highlights on sky, coxy had the freedom of swindon with the run he made straight between the two central defenders and that ball from comminges looks even better in slow motion. now that's football

oh and i reckon it was a dead cert penalty still.

I'd say it's a penalty. Nowhere near the ball and however little impact there was it was enough to drag Corr's leg away.

Loving the goal. Might have to check it out on Virgin media again. and again, and again

From the town end it was a more obvious penalty
