Title: More Holt jibber-jabber...

BOB Holt has hailed the "Dunkirk spirit" of the County Ground staff over an uncertain last few months - admitting without their loyalty they could already have gone out of existence.

As the Swindon Town takeover inched closer to completion last night, with lawyers attempting to tie up some final loose ends, the Town director insists the contribution of everyone at SN1 can not be overplayed.

Holt is expected to resign from the board the moment the deal is sealed, as fellow member Martyn Starnes has already done, but was quick to recognise the efforts of everyone on the club's payroll.

He said: "I am thrilled this is progressing because it will bring to an end the stress everyone has been feeling.

"The staff, the players - absolutely everyone.

"Everyone has been unsure of their future and working in those conditions is very difficult.

"Everyone at the club has kept at the helm to keep the club running, the whole man Jack.

"People have made sacrifices to keep this club running. Everyone has been paid now. There is still some balance to be paid to Paul Sturrock, we have agreed what he is owed.

"I will repeat we can't thank the staff enough.

"It is great we have such a great spirit in adversity.

"Certain sections of our fan base have been negative towards us, to put it mildly, but without us being here perhaps it would not have lasted so long.

"It has been like the Alamo at times at the club but everyone has shown a real Dunkirk spirit."

Fitton's expected arrival in the hot seat will clear crippling debts at the club, to the tune of £5million, but Holt insists they are far from the only club in financial strife.

He said: "In short our incomes in three and a half and our expenditure is four and half.

"We lost a bit more last year when we got promoted because more money spent on the squad.

"Some football clubs are different to us because they own their own ground and have low over heads.

"We have substantial overhead here, our player budget is £3m and that only leaves us half a million for the rest.

"A thick of end of a quarter of a million is spent on rent and rates for the year so you can quite easily see where the money goes.

"If we cut back on the playing squad, like we did a couple of years back, then you are not competitive any more.

"So you drop down to the second Division which no one wants.

"It gets even harder in the championship because the average losses there are five to six million pounds."

The frustration of an uncertain last few months have led to Holt & Co being the subject of abuse from the terraces but he believes much of that towards the staff was unwarranted.

He said: "It would be easy for us to say right we are off home to the supporters but it does not work that way because there would just not be a club left.

"We will stay here until no chance of survival or someone comes in to rescue the club. Mr Fitton is now in talks and we are very very close to that position.

"We have been working under a cloud for quite a long time now and I take my hat off to everyone who turned up diligently every game, never questioned the position and stuck to their guns."

The truth is in there, somewhere ...

""Certain sections of our fan base have been negative towards us, to put it mildly, but without us being here perhaps it would not have lasted so long."

... it being the shambles of course.

Did you not see the martyr piece he did in the G&H when he left? Said he'd foregone two months wages so the players could get paid ahead of him. Holt appears to be claiming that "foregone" is a bit more temporary than that would usually imply. But then it is Holt. Don't trust either of them personally, neither have been straight with us.

Wasn't it reported/alleged that he went unpaid for four months, and IIRC he received two months just before he left? He is owed any outstanding salary, but should not be getting any severance pay or golden handshake!

Its back salary that he wasn't paid for 4 months and he's fully entitled to it

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!

YOU MAKE ME SO ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get this deal done so we can fuck these pricks off back to horse racing. FUCK OFF!

Yes the club has been dragged through the gutter. BY YOU NOB BOLT! A club that has been cared for and looked after for 120 years. People of past generations have put their entire lives into the club. AND YOU LEFT IT OUT TO DIE! You could have quite easily paid the CVA from the Lukas J money, but you didnt because you penny pinched to squeeze every last cent until the club either died or someone took its limping corpse off you. you bastards.

If you hadnt have produced unbelievable bullshit like this I guarantee 100% of town fans would have kicked your doors down and forced you out.

AND AS FOR THIS BIT

"so you can quite easily see where the money goes."

NO WE CANT FUCKWIT! WHERE THE FUCK IS IT??????!!!!

Just fuck off.

I agree it's taking the piss a bit. Although Holt now talking like this can only be an encouraging sign that the takeover is nearing completion.

I tend to agree but he's not talking about deals going through or anything. In fact he's almost saying goodbye (we can only hope)

I like this bit:

Quote from: "master of the mixed metaphor"

"It has been like the Alamo at times at the club but everyone has shown a real Dunkirk spirit."

If only Davey Crockett had shown a bit more Dunkirk spirit at the Alamo,  eh Bob?!   Or  is he implying that the tommies at Dunkirk didn't show enough "spirit of the Alamo" ?! or, err, something.

Perhaps they are going to organise a mass evacuation of the club in rental cars from Alamo (cash paid up front presumably).  Would be good to add to the authenticity of this re-enactment by organinsing some heavy machine-gun fire for them.

Pillock

Extracting thousands of troops from the Northern french coast is a lot like buying a house in the wild west

Either that or Bob is a distant relative of Swiss Toni

LAYING A CARPET
Laying a carpet is... very much like making love to a beautiful woman. You check the dimensions, lay her out on the floor, pin her down, walk all over her. If you're adventurous - like me - you might like to try an underlay.

PUTTING UP A TENT
Putting up a tent, is... very much like making love to a beautiful woman. You rent her, unzip the door, put up your pole an'... slip in to the old bag.

WASHING A CAR
Washing a car, is very much like making love to a beautiful woman. You've got to caress the bodywork. Breathe softly and gently. And give every inch of it your loving attention. And make sure you've got a nice wet sponge.

GOING FISHING
Of course, As you know, I'm a very keen fisherman myself. You know, I've often thought that going fishing was very much like making love to a beautiful woman. First of all, clean and inspect your tackle, carefully pull back your rod over, and remove any dirt or gunge that may have built up whilst not in use. Then, extend your rod to its full length, and check that there are no kinks or any wear. Particularly at the base, where the grip is usually applied. Make sure you've got a decent float, the appropriate bait, and that there's plenty of shot in your bag.

HANGING WALLPAPER
Well, hanging wallpaper is also very much like making love to a  beautiful woman. Clean all the relevant surfaces, spread her out on  the table, cover her with paste, and stick her up. Then you clean your brush, light your pipe, stand back and admire your handiwork.

MAKING COFFEE
Making a cup of coffee is like making love to a beautiful woman. It's got to be hot. You've got to take your time. You've got to stir...gently, You've got to grind your beans until they squeak. And then you put in the milk.

ANSWERING THE PHONE
Answering the phone, Paul, is... a little like making love to a beautiful woman. In that you've gotta... lift the receiver, put it to your ear, speak... loudly and clearly... oh, yes - and don't forget to state your name.

BEING IN THERAPY
And yet, having therapy is very much like making love to a beautiful woman. You... get on the couch, string 'em along with some half-lies and evasions, probe some deep dark holes, and then hand over all your money.

BEING IN A CRASH
Going to the brink of death and back, in a nine car pile-up on a dual carriage-way, Paul, is... very much like making love to a beautiful woman. First of all, brace yourself; hold on tight - particularly if it's a rear-ender. And pray you make contact with her twin airbags as soon as possible.

I'd suggest that about £180,000 on rent for a building that allows you to earn £3.5m in revenues is pretty good going Bob.  I'd be more concerned about the make-up and total of the £1.5m in Administrative Expenses.  How many pens does a football club use in a year?

Title: Re: More Holt jibber-jabber...
Post by: genf_stfc on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, 15:44:32
well quite, I mean...

Quote from: "twat features"

"In short our incomes in three and a half and our expenditure is four and half.

"We have substantial overhead here, our player budget is £3m and that only leaves us half a million for the rest.

"A thick of end of a quarter of a million is spent on rent and rates for the year so you can quite easily see where the money goes.

"It gets even harder in the championship because the average losses there are five to six million pounds."

so even though he has just said the rent is less than 0.25 million, 3+0.25 = 3.25, means that somewhere there are another 1.25 million a year in out goings - the rent and rates makes up just a fifth of this value so no, actually Bob, I don't quite understand your point there.  How does this compare against, oooh I don't know just to pick something out of the air, interest payments.  Also isn't there a limit on amount you can pay players against turnover - or is that just in league 2 ?  if so, would be interesting to see how that compares against the value of 3.5 million.

Finally, what relevance are the average losses for Championship sides ?  Are you honestly saying that the business plan should we get to the Championship is "we'll probably do about the same as everyone else" ?

please, just sign the papers, sod off and let someone else have a go.
