Title: rental contracts
Post by: genf_stfc on Monday, December 10, 2007, 15:09:50
I know there are a couple fo landlords on here, so a mate of mine was just browsing the web for flats, when he found a nice looking one for sale (not in Swindon !) - only problem is, its the one he is currently renting and living in, with still 5 months left on his current contract.

Can an owner put a flat up for sale without

a - telling the current tenants that they are flogging it
b - telling prospective buyers that there are sitting tenants

I reckon he should arrange a viewing for a laugh.. see if the owner tries to sneak in without saying anything.  Suspect he's got himself in the shit with an increase in his buy-to-let mortgage payments, probably some way this can be used to an advantage...

i think you have to give in writing 3 months notice to the tennent from what i remember reading as i had a similar experience.
It's their property and obviously the new buyers will not be able to move in until his rental contract has ended as they own the property they can ask him to leave as long as they give him enough notice which as i said from my memory is 3 months.
hope that helps.
