TOWN fans were given a glimmer of hope regarding their club's future this afternoon, following round-the-table talks between Andrew Fitton and the owners the Wills family.

Ramsbury businessman Fitton emerged from the lunchtime summit with Sir Seton Wills, son James and family advisor Mike Diamandis to tell the Swindon Advertiser only that "excellent progress'' had been made.

Fitton refused to elaborate further on the details of the meeting and declined to set a timeframe for any deal to be done, but was hopeful "it would not take a long time.''

Well that's positive. I think most now realise that it's Fitton or Bust.  let's just hope that the Wills have seen sense.

Seems a bit strange that yesterday Fitton was quite certain that the deal was dead and very unlikely to be resurected yet today is sat back round the table discussing terms.

So putting a slightly different spin on it...........

Perhaps yesterdays goings on were all planned by Fitton in a toy throwing do it my way or I'm taking my toys home and not playing kind of way. A sort of very public, pull your fingers out and do a deal warning to SSW and co, sparking mad panic amongst fans, staff and directors alike thus cranking up the pressure and getting the process kick started again.

Well so far it's worked a fucking treat.

Fingers crossed he's in charge before the new year.

   Its a bit too obvious for Diamond Mike to take,  his bottom line is being quite happy to see the club go under......no doubt he'll pull out all the stops to achieve this.

My take is that what has happened is exactly what he (Fitton) has said happened. They tried it on, he pulled out.  
Holt panics & says to Wills you need to put some money in or we are trading insolvently, & will have to close the club or go to jail.  Wills suddenly envisages a life where he has to earn a living & agrees to meet.
How it pans out, is down to how much Wills listens to Diamandis. I should imagine his wife would have something to say about it too.

I fail to believe any of the statements with regards to the take over. Only when the headline reads DIAMANDIS & WILLS FUCK OFF FOREVER will I sit up and take notice, and even then I wont believe the damn thing unless I drive them out of the County Ground myself.

The fact Fitton said "excellent progress" has been made says something, I wouldnt beleive it if it came from the board. End of the day Fitton has shown he is smart, He is not a thick cunt and wont take people messing about, The board must have grovelled to him to go back as he said. They must be ready to do the deal under Fitton's terms or he wouldn't go back. He clearly stated that. The ball is clearly in Fittons court, Yes it is still a long shot but it is something...

I think DV is right here.....as far as I'm concerned yesterday marked the end of STFC, as teh club we knew and used to love....its just now a case of making the demise formal.

Fucking hell there's a lot of pessimism about. Chin up, good stuff can happen.

I for one won't be wallowing in pity and feeling sorry for myself (and for my club) until it's gone. Nothing will stop me believing that the club is finished until i see that it is finished.

This is good news and despite many false dawns, i will believe every single dawn with the same level of hope and happiness i showed to the previous.

I'm not ignoring the facts, i'm just not letting it make me negative.

Excellent progress can and may have been made in a room with everyone chatting.  It's what happens when Fitton is not in that room that is the crux of the matter, they've already agreed the deal once so in fact we are further behind than we were in November.

This all boils down to how scared this made Wills, if at all.  Lets not forget though that Fitton did mention even if the owners wanted to sort out one of the stumbling blocks they might not know how to.

   Personally I'm not feeling particularly negative.....in the scheme of things losing a football club is insignificant....time to get over it and move on.  I am worried though about the TEF.

By the club and not BEST. This is coming from Fitton himself. Yes it's far from done but there is still hope. Maybe just maybe Mike D and SSW have finally woken up to the prospect of having no money if they don't sell.

Oh and in the same way people are saying they won't believe it until it happens (which is understandable and fair enough) I won't believe it's the end until it is the end. Although i'm doomed to pessimism like the rest of us but i guess that isn't hard given the circumstances.

I'd heard that Everton were going after Wayne Hennessey from Wolves instead of Brez.

For once I have to say well done the Adver.

Fitton has piled the pressure on by pulling out, whether it was genuine or bluff.
(I wonder how many times someone has called Diamandis (and friends) "deluded" in public, and then back into the room to carry on negotiating with him - brilliant)

Today the Adver has for once got off the fence and said the deal must be done. They have got interviews with Peter Rowe who has always had pretty strong views, and by Jim Little who has given his views.

Now I don't think for one minute the Greek shit would normally listen to any of them, but the pressure is racking up here. The voice is becoming clammering that the deal must be done. Maybe SSW is too deaf to hear anything other than the Greek drivel in his ears, but maybe, just maybe, he reads the Adver. Anything that cranks up the pressure must be good.

We all need to keep the pressure on, in any way we can.

I'm cautiously optimistic at the mo.

We were prepared to attend the clubs funeral on the basis of one story, but not prepared to accept the ray of hope offered by the other.  

I am back believing we're going to pull though. For today at least.

Thing is I think we've had various people say the deal is confirmed in the past but obviously it has never been true. People may have sources or may just make it up but I feel that Fitton is a man who keeps his cards very close to his chest.
I think only Fitton knows if and when the deal is done and until he says so in a statement or on the radio etc I don't believe the deal is completed. After all the work he's done background checking I can't imagine him rushing through the deal yesterday, it would be completely out of character.

The ony thing I would say is that the deal was already nearly done. So if it was just a case of ironing out one or two differences maybe (JUST MAYBE) he has been able to do a deal.

After all, this really is the last chance saloon, and maybe that has dawned on the half-wits in charge.

Remember before they can move the redevolpment rights and sell the Holding Co Wills & Co need to settle with Power & Emmel so that is yet more grovelling and appologising they have to do  - I'm sure if it was Diamandis that made the call Power would probably tell him to Fuck off as he would want to speak to Wills and come to an agreement rather than the Dirty Greek.

The deal can't be completed until that is sorted as Fitton would not want to run the risk of the current lot screwing it up.

I have a feeling there is still a way to go before it is all done and dusted.

Fitton has said himself though, that he wants the deal done "In a matter of days", sugesting that BP and his shares/loan ain't the problemo amigo.

To be fair though this isn't really anything we didn't know except them saying it is done.,

To be honest as long as Mike Diamandis is still involved in the deal i cannot see the deal ever happening.

He is quite happy to see us go under- I find it unbelievable that SSW still listens to him even now

people will slate you for that but i'm inclined to agree.

history suggests that as soon as things start to look better, diamandis will stick his nose in and things will go tits up - it's no coincidence that fitton pulled out after diamandis managed to wrangle his way back into negotiations.

Pretty much sums up my feelings also, most of the abuse he gets is for being repetitive and blunt with what he says, but on the whole I tend do agree with alot of what he says....as you say Sonic as soon as Diamandis sticks his nose in things usually go to pot

Diamandis only has £1 to lose and he is not bothered if the club folds, his December 2006 interview always springs to mind when he said he would take the club down.

Why Seton Wills continues to listen to him is beyond belief, what will it take for him to ditch him? the club is almost dead yet he still doesn't take matters into his own hands, what a fool.

Because he is an old fool who has deluded himself that Mike D is a good buisnessman as he has no buisness acumen himself...as for James well he was born with the silver spoon in his mouth and as I understand it has not had to get himself a proper job

Yes he is seriously deluded, more deluded than i thought, i just cannot see him turning against diamond mike, hence why i think this takeover will end up collapsing, in my opinion if the takeover is not done this week it will just fall through again.

Maybe the hold the Greek shit has on SSW is very simple. He knows where all the skeletons are ( if there are any ) and as he is not in an official position at the club then if any criminal dealings were uncovered, who would carry the can - young James perhaps?  Should it be of sufficient magnitiude that custodial sentences are required then maybe James's public education would help him acclimatise.
I am not of course suggesting that anything criminal has happenned at STFC.  I am just saying if it has.

Well it does seem to me that because Seton Wills continues to listen to diamond mike that he must have something on Seton Wills otherwise surely he would have stopped listening to him a long time ago.

I hope the DTI do another investigation into diamond, so much money has disappeared, we could have paid the CVA and other debts easily with the cash that has been made but it's disappeared into a black hole, i wonder where it went to.....
