Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: jimbob on Thursday, December 6, 2007, 23:01:39 with some everlasting memories of STFC.
4-1 down, 6-4 up at Birmingham...and Stuart Hall reporting on it for Radio 5...priceless Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: janaage on Thursday, December 6, 2007, 23:09:56 Stuart Hall didn't report on it, I think Eleanor Oldroyd did a summary about it at full time. The worst 20 minutes defending she had ever seen. Well that's what I remember when we got back on the bus.
That promotion year was the best ever for me, never imagined that'd be it though. The shrivvie road days will be my lasting memories. It's never been the same since all seating came in. The way we used to rush towards the away fans when we scored brilliant. Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: Batch on Thursday, December 6, 2007, 23:14:55 Got to remember the stupid little things too.
Gareth 'ginger sicknote' Davies somehow pulling a hamstring when heading the ball. Dean Gorre (uddersfield) with the best sending off ever for throwing his toys (yellow) then spitting his dummy (second yellow). Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: Summerof69 on Thursday, December 6, 2007, 23:28:44 Quote from: "Batch" Dean Gorre (uddersfield) with the best sending off ever for throwing his toys (yellow) then spitting his dummy (second yellow). Now that was funny, because the ref told him to calm down in the first place, he went away still moaning so the ref called him over and booked him, and then he went back into the centre of the pitch, saw a bit of turf, kicked it...and he was off. That was our first win in about 20 games. Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: mattboyslim on Thursday, December 6, 2007, 23:31:54 I really enjoyed the match day announcer getting sacked for slating the ref who sent off McMahon for the second consecutive match, Sarfend IIRC. That, and Graz scoring a super late winner v port vale in what must have been the worst town side I've seen in 17 yrs (relegation to Div II in 2000), at the end of a huge losing streak, when iffy scored after a minute and tony rougier equalised for vale, greta night, we were total rubbish but that win felt so good.

Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: Summerof69 on Thursday, December 6, 2007, 23:36:39 Danny Invincible's winner against Perterborough, which kept us up.
Any win against the Pox, expecially winning the last game at the shithole (Manor). Being at Old Trafford along with another 9,000 Town fans, outsinging the plastic Mancunians. Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: reeves4england on Thursday, December 6, 2007, 23:50:07 Quote from: "Summerof69" Danny Invincible's winner against Perterborough, which kept us up. What. A. Hardly a classic game but the 3-2 against Sheffield Wednesday is always going to be remembered! That was our first win in about 20 games. Would have been our 20th loss if we'd been defeated. Our 4th win of the season, previous had been one 2-1 away at palace and a couple of 2-1's at home to Blackburn and Port Vale; both of which had been on midweek evening games. Charlton away was next. That wasn't a bad away day. Stopped them going on a record undefeated run I believe. That's one hell of a week. If you've read general discussion today then you'll have seen that just a few hours ago I found the program from the Huddersfield game. Anybody want me to scan in the sexy middle page poster of the Quinnmeister? Or even the single page of the legendary Paul Mcareavey? Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: Bedford Red on Friday, December 7, 2007, 00:05:08 92-93 was a great season; both the play-off matches against Tranmere; they got my heart going.
Good old Steve Vickers who helped us with 4 of our 5 goals!! 89-90 is still my fave season though. Stoke away on a hot may day gaining the point we needed for the play-offs in a packed away end at the Victoria Ground. Beating Blackburn 4-3 on boxing day after being 2 down in 20 minutes; Duncan Shearer scoring the most bizarre goal i've ever seen in that game. Leeds 3-2 at home was a great game, there were loads. And going into the play-offs with Newcastle, Sunderland and Blackburn knowing we were the best side and confident we would go up and we did. Steve Foley's goal (what a goal) at Blackburn in the play-off semi's, and finally my first time seeing Swindon at Wembley in 1990 when we played Sunderland off the park. Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: Boeta on Friday, December 7, 2007, 00:48:32 iffy onoura being tackled by a corner flag
2-0 at the manor. steve robinson of all the players being 3-0 up to portsmouth and them down to 9 men and ending up 3-3 steve finney's last minute penalty against crewe david holdsworth's diving header og from a gary elkins cross in front of the town end tony grant's goal in the fa cup cantona's stamp on moncur oh danny danny's last minute shinner v peterborough the protests to get rid of mcmahon Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: reeves4england on Friday, December 7, 2007, 00:59:27 Another Invincibile goal I aslways remember is from the game where we beat Rotherham 2-1 at home. Woany put us 1 up with a free-kick, then I think Rotherham equalised before Invincibile took it round three or four players and finished amazingly.
:D Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: sonic youth on Friday, December 7, 2007, 01:01:51 parkin's goal against QPR. i don't know why i remember it so well, but it's the most vivid memory of a goal i have.

Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: Spud on Friday, December 7, 2007, 08:14:55 *Any Mark Walters long range goal, always happened to be in the top corner.
*Some Legend in Shrivvy Road punching Mark Hughes Vs. Man Utd. *Danny Invincible Vs. Peterborough *Ian Wright's brilliant lob over Fraser Digby which was goal of the month on MOTD, not a Swindon moment but a piece of briliance that you had to clap. *Going mental when Parkin put us 2-0 up Vs. Leeds in the Carling Cup, just a shame Robinson scored the equaliser. *Teeeeeeeeeeea Towel *1993 play off final Vs. Leicester City. I'll add more as i think of them. :( Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: herthab on Friday, December 7, 2007, 08:31:05 Lots of good memories. Lots of bad ones too.
This isn't isn't lightening my mood, it's making my realise even more what I'm about to lose.......................... Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: land_of_bo on Friday, December 7, 2007, 09:18:06 Beating West Ham 1-0 away with a deflected Maskell free kick in the last minute, getting chased on the way out :D
Winning 4-0 away at Shitty and when Chalkie was interviewed after the game by Roger Malone, all you could hear was us singing "we all agree, roger malone is a wanker" and Chalkie trying desperately not to laugh. Losing 3-0 away to QPR in FA Cup, live on Monday night football. Remember the Sky Sports Strikers? The look on their faces when then music was drowned out by a chorus of "Who are Yer?!" was priceless, then at half time all you could hear through the coverage was us singing "Richard Keys is a homosexual" Both Wembley performances, fuck we had good team in 90. Beating Rovers 4-1 at Twerton Park - Ooooh Shaun Taylor, all my raving mates at the time were Rovers fans 8) Finally Tranmere away in the play offs, pitch invasion, shirt swapping, aceness. Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: DMR on Friday, December 7, 2007, 10:18:33 On my dads shoulders at Old Trafford and Thorney scored an overhead kick at our end.
Fucking mental. Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: janaage on Friday, December 7, 2007, 11:02:15 Tranmere away!! How could I forget that, best end of match celebration ever!!
Kinda liked Tranmere ever since. Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: Tails on Friday, December 7, 2007, 11:12:06 Winding up Tim Sills at Hereford last year was ace.
Invincibles goal against Peterborough. I was a ball boy behind the goal he scored it in, we weren't allowed to celebrate but all of us went absolutely nuts. We'd all been moved to the Stratton Bank because it was too dangerous to be infront of any other stand! Ifils header against Walsall, and the pitch invasions later on. Turbo double at the Manor. Promotion at Blackpool in 96. I was only 8 but remember it really well, great day. A few weeks after at home to Stockport, we were already champions and it was dull 0-0, the CG was packed..then at the end of the game our commentator said "Stockport fans.. You did not make the playoffs" to a huge wahey from all the Town fans. Gurneys free kick at Leeds, and Parkins goal later. Absolutely superb goals both of them. Frank Talia winning us the game away at Charlton. They were top and on one of the biggest undefeated runs in history, we were bottom and utter shite. Before the game they interviewed Kevin Lisbie (I think) on Soccer AM, and he said how easy it would be. Everyone wrote us off, and Talia produced what has to be one of the best goalkeeping performances ever, certainly the best he's ever done to keep them at bay and we won 1-0. As above, Brezovans debut at Hartlepool. Unbelievable. Being top of the old Division 1 (old old Division 2!) after beating Portsmouth 1-0 at Fratton Park. My brother lived with a huge Pompey fan and it was ace  We wore green socks and Steve Mildenhall had stitches in his testicles at half time. Shame we messed up that season so much because we were up and around the top for quite a while at the start of the season. Losing 7-1 at Forest, but the hardcore of our fans staying and singing til the end. Despite the crapness of our team our fans were fucking superb and I've never seen anything like it. WE ARE STURROCKS RED AND WHITE ARMY! Between the Bank and The Town End... Awesome. God there's too many, and I've only been a supporter for 12 odd years! Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: sonic youth on Friday, December 7, 2007, 13:23:59 the double celebrations at the end of last season will live long in the memory as well.

Happy Days Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: jimbob on Saturday, December 8, 2007, 11:28:58 Sunday match vs the Baggies 1995. Got there in about 1hr 10mins after playing in morning
Watched us batter em 5-2 with thorney hat-trick think it was on the box as well football without question, was that much more enjoyable to watch back then  Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: BANGKOK RED on Saturday, December 8, 2007, 12:11:06 The FA cup match at home to Villa, it was played on match of the although, of course, I went to the match rather than just watching it on TV.
I remember us outplaying villa for much of the game, and I forget the scorers, excpet for Steve Froggatt's scorcher of a winner. A great match all in all really. When I watched the highlights later that day you could hear stuff being thrown up at the make-shift studio over Stratton Bank, and the town fans giving it large to Bob Wilson "Where were you in 69?" AWESOME 8) 8) 8) Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, December 8, 2007, 14:05:52 Aldershot in 86 on a Tuesday night, we had just won our first championship, we were away at Aldershot, they played we are the champions as the team ran out, 2,000 town fans in a crowd of a little over 3,500 we stuffed them 4-2 twas a great night.
Beating Birmingham 6-4 under Hoddle. Both Wembley playoff finals. Beating Arsenal and Wolves, both top teams at the time in 79-80 league cup quarters and semis. Almost going to Spurs and winning in the FA cup the same season. Beating Fulham 5-0 in 75-76 with Best Moore Mullery et al playing against us. Beating Bury 8-0 28 years ago today! Far far too many great days to list, and shed loads of crap days too...Newport away in 81 :( etc. Title: Let us lighten the mood Post by: hmparkin on Saturday, December 8, 2007, 14:08:48 Fallon's overhead kick to score against Brizzle Rovers - one of the most beautiful pieces of football I've seen at the CG.
