Title: Spare a Thought for the Staff
Post by: lambourn red on Thursday, December 6, 2007, 21:35:57
Having worked behind the bar in the players bar for 4 years in the mid 90's I know that a lot of the staff are fans as well as employees and lots of them are still their. Think how these people are feeling not only have they lost their club they have lost their jobs as well.

I like the scots bloke in the ticket office.  In fact I might even have a wander up tomorrow and wish the bloke well.  As I won't be buying anymore tickets - well it's looking that way now.

The player's have there own bar? I actually had a dream once where I was playing for town, we were 1-0 down and I scored, but went a bit mental with the celebrations and got sent off. Then I went to an underground pub and got battered whilst watching the rest of the game on the telly.

Is it like that? Please say it's like that.

The players bar is a disgrace, it hasn't even got a bar in it anymore.   A players lounge is a better description.

The only people I feel for are the thousands of people who over the last 120 odd years have supported the club, the history and tradition that are about to go forever, its my last link to swindon, and its about to go, a few people having to go and work somewhere else part time for the minimum wage ain't a lot in comparison is it? sorry if that sounds harsh but its all relative.....
Feels like there are secounds of injury time left and we are 1-0 down  - we need a super sub from somewhere - come on Sir Seton, get the white horse out the fucking stables, grow a pair of bollocks and do something you can be proud of man

I could certainly tell you some stories about the players bar, the worst was when Mcmaon was their, the first thing he did was to separate the home and away players into different bars. We got beat by Portsmouth 1 0 and Alan Mac scored the winner, he came in the home bar as a guest of Digby and Mcmahon who had his own personal bar came storming in and had Alan Mac chucked out by security, he was a nasty piece of work.

and no it is not like an underground bar although it is hardly plush!!

I doubt many have been fans for 120 years, but on a related note, is Dick Mattick still about?

I've got the second edition of this book about the history of the club. Re-released just as we were going into our Premier League season. It's pretty interesting. Definately a recommended read. It might be good for the last 15 years to be written up and added in at the end for a third edition.

That'll be a bit emotional saying cheerio to that old fella.  I bet he's put up with a lot of shit when people have been queuing for an hour and he's the only one on the front line.

Theres a couple of chaps I know, Derek, who might have missed Tuesdays game, which would have been  his first in his 26th consecutive full seasons, and Dave who made 1600 in a row at Accrington last year and is still going strong.  they'll just take in random non-league matches instead.
