Post by: Barry Scott on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, 09:44:19 I'm hopefully ordering my new music computer today after days of finding a decent price for the spec i want. It has the following spec so far and is probably what i'm going with, athough feel that 2 monitors when one should be enough is probably just being excessive.
Motherboard: Asus M2N-E SLI GREEN Motherboard Socket AM2 nForce 500 SLI ATX CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+ BLACK EDITION Socket AM2 CPU Fan: Zalman CNPS9500-AM2 CPU Fan Socket 754/939/940/AM2 PSU: Antec Phantom 500w Fanless Silent PSU Hard Disk: 1x 250GB sata-300 (3G/s) 16mb HD, 2x 320GB sata-300 (3g/s) 16mb HD and 1x 400GB sata-300 (3g/s) 16mb HD Memory: 4GB DDR2 Memory Kingston Optical Drive: DVDRW Dual Layer 20x DVD +/-R/RW with Lightscribe Graphics Card: Nvidia 8500GT SLI 512MB DDR2 PCI-E, TV Out, DVI and Silent Heat Pipe Monitor: 2x Wide screen 22" TFT Screen :beers: Title: Happy Thoughts! I'm actually thinking of changing it to something with dual DVI, rather than an analogue and a dvi, but it has to be fanless and silent. Fans really piss me off! I also don't care about graphics as no games will be played, just music software which has low requirements. I debated getting something better, but for me silence is king and if i could spend 50p on a card that does what i need, i would. - Provided it has at least 32mb ram and dual monitor support! I was quite disappointed to learn i couldn't run my old AGP 64mb Radeon in the new mobo... I even ran the display at 16bit on my previous music pc. Title: Happy Thoughts! Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, 12:46:01 For your needs Barry....you can get a fanless 6200LE card or similar for well under £20 on a PCI-E.
Totally silent as it uses no fan http://www.ebuyer.com/product/116473 Title: Happy Thoughts! Post by: Barry Scott on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, 12:58:50 Thanks. Would you recommend it over the one i have spec'd with pc? Or is it just cheaper/quieter? I know jack shit about graphics cards and the people sorting out my computer said the one i have spec'd with pc is silent!
Title: Happy Thoughts! Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, 13:06:24 If you need a quiet fan yes I would recomend it, its about £30 cheaper than the 8500gt which I had and was pretty pants TBH. It will do the job you need it to do but wont play any games.
The 8500GT does have a fan but its fairly quiet but not as quiet as a fanless one! If you have no plans to play games then it will be worth it, if you wish to play games at an average setting then go for an 8600GT rather than the 8500GT as its a much better spec for little more money...£55 compared to £50ish.
