Spoke to a couple of the youth team lads before the Rovers match, who were resigned to losing Sturrock.

Don't blame him going, although going back to a previous club is a huge gamble.

Board will love this as I assume he'll take his entire backroom staff with him, saving us loads of cash.

If Williams is back in charge then I'll be gutted.

have to say i doubt whoever takes over will be anywhere near as good as sturrock.
of course the backroom staff will go with him. and the new manager will have fuck all funds to get any players in.however we look at it its grim.
cotterill would be my preferred choice as a replacement i think

Sturrock is the best manager we've had in years. He's a cunt if he leaves though i don't care what anyone says.

He said he was here for the long run to do a job.

Yes, Sturrock's a complete and utter cunt of the highest possible order. Higher possibly than Martin Allen, Dennis Wise, Ken Bates and Rob Styles combined. That's how big a cunt he is. Everyone clear now?

I wouldn't say Sturrock is a cunt, end of the day he could ahve left when BEST were underminding him. he didn't. If he goes it is clearly down to him not having the resources to take us further ie. The transfer embargo etc. That is the boards fault not Sturrock's.  The board told him new owners were in place and they haven't materialised. He eventually just lost patience.

 :D

I blame the Board for this mess, but then again it was the Board who got him here in the first place.

Sturrock has done a Wise in that there came a job opportunity he preferred more than Swindon and bailed out as soon as that happened. Only difference is, Sturrock's been making excuses to leave in the last couple of weeks.

And the whole "better opportunity" argument is a load of bollocks too Don't take a job at a league 2 club if you want to manage higher up.

Agree. He's been talking up the board saying how we should keep quiet, but then moaning non fucking stop about the transfer embargo like it was a shock it had happened.Well no shit Sturrock but thats what happens when you have a club thats being run by crooks :x  Thing is he can leave but we're the ones left behind with probably the same cunts still in fucking charge of our club.Thats if we still have a club left, which i'm begining to doubt.

I'm a fickle football fan.

When he was manager of my club he was brilliant, now he's gone he's a cunt.

As far as I'm concerned he's just another one who's taken the piss out of us and fucking lied all along. I've been unlucky enough to watch Town under 13 managers, he was better than a lot of them, but nowhere near the best.

The Paul Sturrock chapter is now over..................

My concern lies with whether we have a club in a months time.

If Luggy wants to mess us around then he can fuck right off back to Argyle.  Our clubs survival is far more important than the idiot who drags his son along to all the clubs he manages just to get him a contract.

Bye bye Luggy and take your cart horse with you.

This situation is no different from what Wise did. I'll be annoyed if he goes, and concerned that we might get some no-mark in to lead us down the table.

Also, who will pocket the compensation? Mr Diamandis?

Title: Sturrock Gone
Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Monday, November 26, 2007, 12:34:42
What concerns me is the takeover dragging on for weeks and us having Adie as a stop gap for almost a month. 2 games last season was bad enough but with a possiblt points deduction looming and Adie in charge it wouldn't look good.

Just let the players sort it out themselves.

As for Sturrock.  I think there's been a feeling about that his days here might be numbered since the Best deal came along. Must have broken his confidence in the club a bit suddenly loads of staff turn up out with out his consent. He may have left for Plymouth anyway, but it's something we'll never know. These things work differently for time travellers like himself.

I can't bring myself to dislike him much though. He's got a really funny wobbly face.

Tactics may be an issue though, especially for Pook and Easton

I think Lingy is the perfect choice.

Doing a good job at Orient...Has a connection with the club and has said before he would like to manage us.. If Fitton ever takes over, maybe do what it takes to lure him away from East London? We're a bigger club than Orient, and fortunately for us their owner Barry H£arn isn't one to say no to a quick fix of cash... Hence the horrible flats on each corner of Brisbane road.

For what its worth, and I'm not just saying this out of bitterness I think Plymouth re-appointing Sturrock is a mistakle for both parties.

Its pretty clear that he is one of , if not the best lower league manager around. but I dont see it working for a championship team with aspriations of the premiership. The problem is we've all seen that his game plan is pretty un-sophisicated. based on a strong defence, hard working central midfield with wingers raining crosses into the box.  I just dont see that working in the top half of the championship, especially with a squad that he cant touch for a month.

Title: Sturrock Gone

I suspose, but Orient have Arsenal, West Ham, Tottenham, Charlton and Millwall on their doorstep. Their never going to get 10,000 crowds.

I sometimes think Swindon fans think of us as a Championship side, we're a traditional 3rd division side, nothing more.

I've never warmed to Sturock as a person, but thought he was doing an OK job.  Not spectacular, but very competent.  I don't even blame him for leaving our unprofessionally-run shambles of a club.
I just wish all these bloody managers would keep their mouths shut instead of saying one thing and doing another!
That's why I think he's a twat, and why I think Dennis Wise is a twat.  Just don't make promises you don't intend to keep, FFS!

As for a replacement, I'd really like to see Nijholt here.  A direct individual with reall grit and determination - and from his comments in the Adver every 5 seconds it really sounds like at least he really WANTS to come and have a go - something I'd look for in a manager any day of the week.

But we'll probably end up with Jimmy Quinn and Paul Bodin on a job share basis.  What a dream team!

Boo fucking hoo for them, what does that matter? If anything you've just validated my point.

QPR still get over 10,000 every week and they are only done the road from Chelsea and Fulham.

We're not an attractive job prospect are we.

Ideal candidate must be prepared to lie to the fans, not want to spend any money on new players and won't mind losing their job in 2 weeks time when we're shut down.

If Fitton takes over I am sure we could afford compansation, if Fitton does not take over then we couldnt sign him from another club as we are under a transfer embargo.

But...

I dont think he will come anyway.

LOOK! For the last time! No-one currently in a managment post ANYWHERE is going to come to Swindon until:

*the takeover is complete
*the financial situation is sorted out
*there's been at least a few months of stability

Would you leave your job to take one at a company that's been staggering from one financial crisis to another for a decade and is now on the brink of insolvency, struggling to pay its wage bill?

The only people who would be remotely interested in taking on Swindon at the moment are those out of work and desperate.

 :king:  it is then.

Leyton Orient have zero debt, have self financed the development of their ground, have let Lingy build up his own team and back room system etc, have given him absolute support and backing and are (oddly) prime candidates to benefit from 20,000-25,000 seater stadium off the back of the Olympic bid.  Lingy has now spent 11 years with them, longer than with us.  I'd be amazed if he took it on at the current time.

Agree with lumps, given our public exposure recently, right this minutes we will be looking in the unemployed basket.

R4E i Like it!

In all seriousness though I will not be happy with Sturrock if he goes. Was listening to BBC Swindon this morning and they said the majority of fans wouldn't treat Sturrock as they did Wise. I would. As far as I can see he is doing pretty much the same and jumping ship when 'his club' came in, as Wise did when his mate Bates and a massive team in Leeds came in. I feel a bit sorry for him with the takeover lark because he's been messed around a bit but as Wise himself said, stop complaning and get on with it. And he hasn't cos he didn't fancy it.

Can anyone remember what was said when Sturrock took over regards to the compensation clause?  I can’t find the original piece but I seem to remember a ‘large figure’ was quoted after Wise short tailed it to Leeds.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a case of the current board accepting a lower amount than what's on the contract. Is that being a bit cynical? In the general scheme of things I suppose these snippets of information never really get released anyway.

Do you think it will be enough to pay off the CVA Benjani?

Bit of a double edged sword really.  It could Keep the club afloat but the shoe on the other hand could mean that we await the new Plan B.

Aye but if Fitton goes to the dogs then it's a chance to get the creditors off our backs but it also gives those who will not be named breathing space to look for the next cash cow.
