Title: Make of this what you want Post by: Luci on Friday, November 23, 2007, 08:47:03 But heard this morning from a source I would consider reliable, that there will be an important announcement on Monday which will not please the current board. - in those exact words.
Make of it what you will but the person that told me 100% wouldn't be messing around. I know similar things have been posted a zillion times but this seems a bit different when I first heard it. It doesn't take a great leap of imagination to see that he could have chatted informally to Sturrock about it in principle and for that news to leak out to 5-live.
I have to say, I am worried about the situation. It always happens to us (managers leaving). Which as a smaller club I accept. But I can't accept being used as a stepping stone for a matter of months, too much chopping and changing just doesn't work. I doubt it is a done deal/formality or anything like it though. Ian Holloway tendered his resignation as manager of the Championship club on Wednesday afternoon, with Sturrock's name widely circulated as his possible successor. Town director Bob Holt yesterday issued a hands off' plea to Plymouth, although he confirmed there had been no official approach from the Home Park outfit. advertisement An on-line poll conducted by the Plymouth Evening Herald has revealed Sturrock as an overwhelming favourite among Argyle fans to make a surprise return to the Devon coast. Luggy received more than 50 per cent of votes cast, with former Leicester City boss Martin Allen a distant third on 14 per cent. Second place went to none of the above,' in a list which also included Tim Breaker, Steve Cotterill and Russell Slade. But Sturrock refused to be drawn on the rumours, insisting: "I never comment on speculation. All it does is cause unrest and that's as far as I'm prepared to discuss it." Meanwhile, Town fans will be praying that the Andrew Fitton-led consortium complete their takeover of the club shortly, with rumours of a last-minute hitch in the deal a slight cause for concern. Sturrock, however, believes the County Ground will be under new ownership in the near future. He said: "I've had a chat with the current and new owners and things are slowing creeping along. They are going in the right direction as far as I'm led to believe." http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/display.var.1853959.0.plymouth_fans_keen_on_sturrock.php Notice he says "new owners" and not "prospective new owners"..freudian slip? Title: Make of this what you want Post by: Batch on Friday, November 23, 2007, 09:55:11 Speculation part is irrelevant. He wouldn't talk about it (just as Wise didn't about Chelsea) and basically said "ask me again when the job vacancy is there" (Ollie hadn't been confirmed as departed from Plymouth/appointed at Leicester at that point).
The takeover stuff is more interesting and frustrating,"slowly creeping along". Better that than rush it through only to find a monumental cock up has occurred. Title: Make of this what you want Post by: Dazzza on Friday, November 23, 2007, 10:23:46 Good news all round then and I can't see the Scotch egg heading back to the pastie munchers.
I hate to say it I do admire Mouth they have done very well in recent years, have a nice little club (if a little sterile) and off the pitch have kept a steady keel financially. But they look to have found their level in the basement of the Championship or sniffing around the upper echelons of League one. I can’t see them ever having the potential to ever grow the fan base beyond what they have and while it’s a poisoned chalice in some respects as a club we at least have the ability at least historically to hoover up a lot more support in sunnier climates. Both the Egg and Holloway have complained that they struggled to bring in players of the calibre required because Plymouth is situated in the arse hole of England and players were unwilling to relocate. Again not a problem we have ever had. Realistically at the moment they are a Streets ahead but potentially if we get a good grounding and a rub off Sonic we could quite easily leapfrog Plymouth in a couple of years. Back to where he started at a club that without a serious cash injection are never going to go much further than they have gone. I know it’s rich given embargos and all but both him and Holloway have always stated that they could not attract players of that calibre down to Plymouth.
It’s the choice of leading the team into a new era here or the familiar, boring albeit comfortable pair of old slippers at Plymouth. I’d say it’s a definite big loss but he’s not irreplaceable and hasn’t enamoured himself with a lot of fans. Steve Cotterill would be supreme while Allen is a grade A cunt he’s firmly in the mould of the likes of Savage and Wise. He’d be our Cunt. Title: Make of this what you want Post by: sonic youth on Friday, November 23, 2007, 18:30:00 strange timing it was indeed but can't quite work out how there'd be a link. all the names behind BEST - including those that came out after - were portuguese, bar jim little.
as much as i'd like to see ling here, especially having seen how his team plays, lumps is spot on - not much chance of him leaving orient having taken them this far. on an entirely unrelated note, anyone else seen that mickey hazard is coaching at palarse now? Title: Make of this what you want Post by: Ardiles on Friday, November 23, 2007, 18:37:45 Ling, Hazard, Moncur, Hoddle...let have them all back. That was some team.

I heard that he was a London Cabbie. (Mickey Hazard I mean) Now that is a man who would be welcome back surely, but is he up to the job. Could you imagine the chants? "Why would anyone want Hoddle? Any manager who has been sacked as many times as he has is not worth having - he's failed more than he's ever achieved. Surely Martin Allen would be the one to opt for should Sturrock leave - heaven forbid!" BEST Holdings always maintained that they were a consortium and had many different backers. Plus, as far as I can remember Rufus Brevett wasnt portugese and he appears from no where when BEST did for some reason. Title: Make of this what you want Post by: sonic youth on Saturday, November 24, 2007, 00:23:17 brevett wasn't a financial backer to the best of my knowledge, supposedly a "go between"

I'm disgusted that Fatters connection was right, but I think I can get over it.
As far as Nijholts rumoured connections with Best go, I'm with Sonic. It's clear that the adver still had his number from the previous managerial appointment speculation and rang him up for his opinion on European club structures for the sake of a story. I start off hating them, come around to them a bit and they fuck off... Title: Make of this what you want Post by: flammableBen on Saturday, November 24, 2007, 01:18:57 I knew it would effect you worse yeovil. Sturrock has clearly been an emotional roller-coaster for you. You come round to him and then he leaves. Wait this is a bit Deja-Vu ish isn't it.
On a happy note. I'm going to apply for the job, and in the same way there's been talk of vocally supporting this investor Fitton dude; I think that the Tef should get behind it's favourite son. Some "flammableBen's Barmy Army" might not go amiss. Of course some of you will get jobs. Fred can be head coach. DV can be head not drinking moral officer to balance my offer of a free bottle of vodka to the best player in training. Reg can be head anything he wants and fatters get's the youth team job. Who is it who's played in goal at a vaguely high lower level? They can be keeper coach. Sonic can have his scoreboard job back. Sam and Si can be in charge of player contract negotiations. Yeovil will be my assistant. Depending who the trust nominate, I'll support a fan on the board. If they nominate a twat then I'll put my foot down and organise a group of angry midgets to rape PaulD. I hope you are all behind me. Title: Make of this what you want Post by: pauld on Saturday, November 24, 2007, 01:29:22 I'm behind you Ben, but mainly cos I quite like the sound of the gang of angry midgets
Title: Make of this what you want Post by: flammableBen on Saturday, November 24, 2007, 01:32:54 Who were you planning to nominate? they'd have to be pretty bad to get the midgets involved. You have to be warned that midgets can be replaced with angry zoo animals.
