Title: Petrol Prices Post by: fatbury on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 11:52:38 wont be long before the next petrol protest ... labour really havent got a handle on this at all
Title: Petrol Prices Post by: Barry Scott on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 12:21:17 I think it's the Oil prices forced by OPEC as opposed to the government at the moment. How OPEC even exists is beyond me, cartels are not allowed within business, and should certainly not be allowed within the rich fuel community.
It's OPEC and the US that need opposing, not Labour, which is hard to believe with my dislike of Labour. Title: Petrol Prices Post by: Leggett on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 12:45:46 yes, but labour did just put up the tax on fuel again if i'm not mistaken?
Title: Petrol Prices Post by: Batch on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 12:54:05 VAT: 14.89p
Duty: 50.35p Produciton & delivery: about 31p Retailer: about 4p Source: AA/Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) Average is now over £1 Litre. I remember my great aunt moaning when it was £1 a gallon! ----- The fuel duty escalator is a Tory invention. Of course Labour won't actually abolish it though. If they did there would be 1001 stealth taxes to make the deficit up. What I want to know is, what happened to those angry truckers that barracaded the depots when the price hit 80 someting p/litre. Did they do a deal with the devil, because I am amazed they haven't been seen since. Title: Petrol Prices Post by: Colin Todd on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 14:12:43 I like angry truckers. They should get together with Farmers for a pitchforks and burning stuff riot
Title: Petrol Prices Post by: Summerof69 on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 15:05:04 Just imagine what the price would be if the Dollar to the Pound was at around $1.50 instead of over $2, the price would probably be nearer to £1.20 a litre
Title: Petrol Prices Post by: STFC_Manc on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 17:54:54 mines 96.9 i thought that was alot!
Title: Petrol Prices Post by: DMR on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 18:52:56 I've started stealing my old mans company petrol card - unfotunately his new car is a diesel so it's only a matter of time before my unleaded scam gets rumbled 8)

Buisness claim it back,so the "no food in supermarkets" arguement doesnt really add up. About £1.07 a litre i think. Title: Petrol Prices Post by: spacey on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 19:51:13 cheap petrol = People drive more, more cars on the roads, more roads, less badgers.
Expensive petrol = I don't care. We've all got to make sacrifices I'm afraid, war doesn't pay for itself. I can't even smoke in a pub for fucks sake! Title: Petrol Prices Post by: Ralphy on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 20:28:00 The money the government is losing on people not buying smokes has to come from somewhere else.
More tax on petrol and beer. I need to drive to work, whether the petrol is cheap or expensive, so that theory wont work. Title: Petrol Prices Post by: spacey on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 20:44:30 What theory? I can assure my not caring is a fact not a theory.
I think the aim is to stop people driving when they don't have to. Unfortunately that means you suffer. Lets face it though car drivers are always moaning about anything which threatens their right to be lazy selfish tossers Title: Petrol Prices Post by: Bushey Boy on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 20:49:12 I drove to teh link from westlea tonight, I picked up a mate from Westlea to. It may ruin the environment but then walking around west swindon may result in me getting stabbed or losing my wallet. Id still drive at £2 a litre
Title: Petrol Prices Post by: Ralphy on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 20:51:59 If you have no option but to drive for work then i'm afraid you suffer.
Catching the train is an expensive business too. I never complain about the price of fuel because it's my choice what car i drive and if it costs a fortune in fuel then so be it. I could always buy a Smart car. :D I'm lucky in the fact i don't need my car for anything but leisure. Thats an extra 35p. Whats the big woop? Well if it was just 1p then that would be k. Back in Oct 2006 the price was about 88p. Thats a 12p jump, so thats an extra £4.20 for a 35 litre tank. This is just one week, 52 weeks in the year, thats £218.40. So it is quite a big rise. Below is where i got the info from :) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7082847.stm Title: Petrol Prices Post by: RobertT on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 23:23:32 Trains can be quite cheap these days if you buy right, the Cheltenham game cost £3 return at one point.
Strange how so many people get so irritated by the price of petrol but then go out and buy cars that do 10 miles to the gallon. Personally I'd abolish the car tax itself and just stick that on petrol as well, that way people can make a choice about how much to spend. |
