I can't see why it would make you angry.  I can understand if it confuses you, or if you think it beggars belief, but to get angry about it is a bit strange.

Even if we for one minute we were to believe that the JH are 100% correct. Who wants a cruel and vindictive God like that in their lives?

And how come the JH are allowed to chose not to live, but very sick people in pain are not legally allowed to end their lives?

I can't see how you can compare bleeding to death and a terminal illness. They both end in the same result without intervention. Not giving yourself treatment is not the same as taking your own life (even though the outcome is the same). People with terminal illnesses refuse treatment all the time anyway - I'm doubtless that people don't judge them as harshly.

I can't say I agree with the woman's decision, but without medical advances man would not be able to artificially extend one's life anyway. I also do not believe in God or any higher being for that matter. That does not make morally superior. You cannot burden someone with a sin just because you think it's for the best. That's playing God.

That's one of the next on my 'enlightenment' list, but understood it to be quite weighted in favour of the religionist.

To be fair, despite his views, his book is something which is very well written and not so much his opinion, but a kind of scholars balanced view on religion's various faults and contradictions.

I learned lots on The Koran, The Prophet Mohammed and the laughable religion (one time con) that is Mormonism. I'm now on my second read.

Dawkins book is indeed good and relatively balanced i.e. not offensive unless you are a bit of bible basher.

i remember when i was very young we used to sing hyms before and assembly and stuff but it died out pretty quick in the late eighties.

Definitely didn't do prayers before meals. Might have sung a few hymns or something. I don't really remember much about primary school. Definitely no religion at secondary school though.

Some people need a reason to live, and it really does help them get through life as well... Let them get on with it I say, I could never follow a religion and if I chose to I doubt it would be something as dogmatic as Christianity which has a ridiculous amount of flaws....

I can't help but take pity on mormons though.. That religion really takes the biscuit.

I went to a C of E school, we didn't do prayers or anything. Infact, our headteacher was a Hare Krishna.
