Title: giants v dolphins Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, October 28, 2007, 14:33:38 Giants could destroy dolphins no worries. Might be different if the Dolphins could form an alliance with some manatees. But generally dolphins are a bit overrated.
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: Ralphy on Sunday, October 28, 2007, 14:53:50 What about a Green Giant?
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Sunday, October 28, 2007, 16:17:10 Dolphins would win easy, they're very intelligent animals you know and most giants are pretty stupid, it would be kind of like David and Goliath I imagine.
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: sonic youth on Sunday, October 28, 2007, 16:22:06 surely it would depend where the battle took place, dolphins wouldn't stand a chance on land
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: Nomoreheroes on Sunday, October 28, 2007, 16:43:29 Two shite teams.
NMH Title: giants v dolphins Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Sunday, October 28, 2007, 17:05:49 I don't know, they are very clever. I imagine they would build some kind of mobile sea world that they could live in whilst on land. I think it would be fairest if there were home and away legs, the giants would struggle in water unless it was quite shallow or they are particularly huge. I think dolphins have about a 2 to 1 edge.
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, October 28, 2007, 17:08:07 I think the Giants would win. All they'd have to do is some large scale tuna fishing, which, considering they're giants, would be fairly easy.
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: axs on Monday, October 29, 2007, 01:29:05 it will never catch on here. it is a shit sport. give it up.

I like US Football although I haven't seen much this season due to not having Sky Sports. It's a good game once you get into it. Title: giants v dolphins Post by: janaage on Monday, October 29, 2007, 11:36:00 No they don't Macca. The average rugby tackle is an art form, rugby players know where to tackle and injury threat is reduced because of this.
American footballers don't care where they hit their opponent, head collisions etc mean that helmets are necessary in the game. A lot of rugby players now wear padding anyway, I wouldn't say they're soft. Title: giants v dolphins Post by: sonic youth on Monday, October 29, 2007, 11:52:28 i'd like to know what the fuck it's about, same with baseball. it's impossible to understand otherwise :D
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: janaage on Monday, October 29, 2007, 11:54:36 Sonic just watch a couple of games and you'll get the hang of it. I think I got into it by playing John Madden on my old Sega and took it from there.

Didn't watch this but it is the only American sport I ever get the point of really. Title: giants v dolphins Post by: Samdy Gray on Monday, October 29, 2007, 12:29:38 I read somewhere that the rules of American Football are the second most complex in any sport, behind Cricket.

And drinking while watching the game is positively encouraged! Title: giants v dolphins Post by: Gazza's Fat Mate on Monday, October 29, 2007, 21:07:22 fuicki off. Have the NFL paid all the newspapers to cover this game? ever fucing paper has a page about the fucking thing!!!!!! really very annoying considering the one paragraph town get!!!!!!!!!!
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, October 29, 2007, 21:08:00 Yeah drinking must be essential. Just don't do drinking games based on home runs because that would normally make for a fairly inconsequential game :)
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: stfc11 on Monday, October 29, 2007, 21:40:01 I like watching american football and baseball and find them pretty easy to understand 8) Although i don't support etheir the Dolphins or Giants. San Diego Padres and Chargers are my baseball and football teams. :D
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, October 29, 2007, 21:50:34 From what i can gather american football is full of big homo-erotic black men. Then they play british bulldog for most the game, stopping for 5 minute breaks every 30 seconds as they swap the players round for some reason. When you score a touchdown then some sort of over-enthusiastic macho-celebration is necessary, otherwise you get no points.
Is that about it. I tried watching american football once, but i got so bored i actually started watching golf instead. Title: giants v dolphins Post by: pumbaa on Monday, October 29, 2007, 22:03:57 Its great for insomnia
Better than watching paint dry. You don't have to do any walking. You don't lose any balls. Four sound reasons there! Title: giants v dolphins Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, October 29, 2007, 22:08:50 Quote from: "pumbaa" Better than watching paint dry. thats highley debatable Title: giants v dolphins Post by: redbullzeye on Monday, October 29, 2007, 22:10:06 It's like rugby union except you are allowed to take out people who don't have the ball. Once you watch a couple of games the rules aren't that difficult to get your head round. What gets me is the mind numbing time it takes to get the game over with. I get really stressed with 90 minutes of football, let alone the 4 hours this game seems to take. And all those time outs WTF is that all about apart from selling more hotdogs?
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: reeves4england on Monday, October 29, 2007, 23:42:07 For the people who don't get baseball...it really is quite simple!
You get three chances to hit the ball If you hit it "out the ground" it's a home run, otherwise you have actually make an effort to get to a base You're out if you miss the ball 3 times or get caught Once 3 people are out you "change ends" so to speak Okay I simplified it a little too much but that's the basic idea! That's if the ball is in the Strike Zone, which is determine by the referee. A bit like lbw in cricket if you like. Other than that, a damn good summary. Oh, and you can be out if you hit the ball, and the fielder at a base gets there before the batsman (again, like a run-out). Its the one American sport that I thought I'd never like, but having been to a few games, its really quite an enjoyable experience. Title: giants v dolphins Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, 01:01:25 I used to watch it on channel 5 when I couldn't sleep. Quite a cure for insomnia!
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: Chubbs on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, 06:54:27 I like american sports, NHL, NFL MLB etc. though watching NFL or MLB live can get quite tedious.
Title: giants v dolphins Post by: axs on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, 11:35:31 i can imagine going to some of these games could be quite a fun day out, but watching it on TV? just seems very dull to me.

In my opinion, American football is much better on TV, as you get a shed load of analysis and replays. It's sometimes difficult to follow the ball at a live game (It's a long time since I went to a game so they may have big screen replays now) Basketball is ok, It's shorter (unlike the players) and you feel closer to the action. It's a bit "I score, you score " though I've only watched one game of baseball live, and I enjoyed it. You need a working knowledge of the rules to get the most out of any of these games. Title: giants v dolphins Post by: axs on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, 11:55:17 a few beers and a bit of atmosphere would do for me. understanding the game might make me pay attention.
