Inspired by the FA Cup draw thread, when was the first time you saw the town play Oxford?

Mine was at the County Ground, 12th October 1996. We won 1-0. Super Kev Horlock scored.

I was only 11 at the time, I remember sitting up in the Arkells in the yellow seats, absolutely bricking myself.

Early 80's

The old Manor Ground, can remember running through alleyways in the housing estates around the ground either pursuing or running away from the scum

Snap! Except the bit about the yellow seats - I was in the Intel from memory.

I remember being angry because Joey Cuntface was playing  :D

The FA Cup away game that was also on TV a few years ago, Larwood mentioned it earlier.

First game I'd been to with my dad (Fulham fan) and he's not been to a Town game since.

It was shit, and a bit chilly!

been chased by them twice as a school kid.once through the city centre and once when a load of them were waiting on the wyvern bridge.

the wyvern chase game was pre a cup game.was midweek and went to pens(which we won)
was kicking off behind the townend too. their lads were deffo on top that day,they had quite a big mob

I can remember our boys knocking down this pensioners wall and breaking it up to get ammo to hurl at the scum

as a 16/17 year old it was scary times

I think it was the 2-0 'turbo brace' at the manor. Probably my favourite ever STFC game

about 78/79 took a qpr school friend, and about 25 mins before kick off about 20  "bigger boys" wearing town scarves (but oxford hoolies) came in, looked around and started swinging, one aimed for me I ducked and my mate got a nice broken nose, never been back since, inspired my mate to take up karate, and he ended up in the top 2 or 3 in england and a qpr fan to boot

There were even a couple of 4-1 wins in the mid to late 90s.

That was my first one too. For some reason I still remember queueing for agaes for a bag af Fruit Pastilles as they ran oput of almost everything else! Great game and Oxford were never even in it until they went down to 9 men and we sat back!

The best part was this scummer on the bus on the way to the ground explaining to people how they were blatantly going to lose  :D

FWIW, I was at the first two league games, played v scum 65/66. The away game was fun.

I think I went to the home games around 95/96 and 96/97. Don't really remember though. I went to the turbo 2-0 aceness manor effort definitely

1989 at home. Won 3.0 Chalky scored a brace and Calderwood the other one.

Dec 97 when we beat them 4-1 at the County Ground.

Ace goal from Ty Gooden from memory; he couldn't score a simple one; "Walking in a Finney Wonderland" being sung (he scored the 4th 1 think).

Bizarrly; having gone for 31 years now that's the only Swindon Oxford game i've ever seen live!

I recall my first was in the 70s (still at school).  It was a mid-week game and we won 2-0.

Been to loads of the games with the scum.  Two stick in my mind and they were both at the Manor.  The 4-1 and 2-0 (last game at the manor) wins.  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

Christmas 1976 Home game 1 - 0 Colin Prophett about 12 or 13 thousand there and rather a lot of trouble which as a 10 year old was pretty scarey.

But my favourite game against them was in 1990 4 - 2 away win Simpson, Foley, Shearer 2 scoring.

I have seen Swindon vs Pox 16 times live now and never seen us get beaten by them!

The only time I have seen us get beat by them was watching on TV against them last time.

My memory might be going, but wasn't it during this match (it might have been the 4-1 victory the following season) that Swindon's finest waded into Stratton Bank and started batoning any Oxford fans in sight. Completely out of order really but highly amusing nonetheless

Oh yes, and remember being chased at Oxford away as soon as we got off the train, running into M&S to hide (was only 15/16) so that must have been 90/91

The cup game was simod cup I think...I remember also going to the manor for a mid week simod  cup game, we won 3-1 with our reserves...we scored from a free kick given away when a scummer thought he hadn't taken a free kick and picked the ball up, the ref gave it othe other way!

1-1 at the County Ground, Allison scored for us and they equalised in the second half I believe. In '95 anywho...

I wasn't allowed to go to any derbys as a kid. My first ever local derby was Rovers last year.

I hardly went to any games as a kid, my dad was more of a *cough* Leeds fan.

Oh how I wish I could gloat how the mighty have fallen.

92-93, both home and away. remember at the manor getting egged from behind the stand, or something along those lines!

Feb '89, when we tanked them 3-0 at the CG.

If my memory serves me right, the goals were scored by Alan Mac, Ross McLaren and Colin Calderwood.

Personal highlights over the years, was the amount of stick Joey got on his return, where he got clobbered everywhere on the pitch, and the ref just told him to shut up and get on with it, and the 4-1 victories. Just prior to both of those games, we were playing crap, but the Pox turned up, and still received their normal drubbing.  :D

The 0-3 at the Manor in the same season is one of the worst games I've been to....the two home games in the following seasons made up for that.

Swindon Cable, Zenith Data Systems Cup, 1st round

1st October 1991. Was a Tuesday 7:45pm kick off. 3-3 apparently... That what's written on the back of the programme 8)

We won that on penalties didn't we?  Or was that on another occasion?

1989 stuffed them 3-0 was my first. Fucking brilliant. My favourite though was in 1991 away at the manor. They were 2-0 up within about five minutes. We were level at half time I think, then went on to win 4-2. Good times.

Correct. We went 3-1 down in extra time, and came back to draw  3-3...then we beat the scum on pens.

3-1 up...and they fooked it up. No change there then !! :D

I also remember both occasions for being particularly lively behind the Cuckoo Lane.

At least they now have a decent hospital on the site - when Sonic Uncle made a recent visit he requested (and got) a room in the away end.

It was the away game in early 1992.  We lost 5-3, despite going a goal up (Shaun Close!) in the first minute.  I was in my first year at college in Oxford and had dragged a few mates along to the game, so it was especially gutting.

Surprised how many people on here have never been to a game vs Oxford.  Maybe we do have quite a few recent fans after all.  I've probably been to about 5 home games vs Oxford and a similar number away, and they've all been either brilliant or dire.  There is no middle ground.

X mas either 76 or 77 we won 1-0 with the winner going in off Prophets arse. Only missed a couple home or away since. Had the pleasure of accompanying a few friends into their end one day towards the end of the 70's - didn't last long but they knew we'd been there. Also a cracker when we lost 5-0 there. The smokebomb home game was ace as was seeing Walters dumb bastard Beauchamp in front of the Intel as was then. Also had the pleasure of being on a stag day when we beat them 4-2 there and started the day at 11 am in one of their pubs - that got quite interesting as the early afternoon got on. Numerous other scrapes including a fucking long run up Drove Road once when they really took the piss down here.
Can't stand the bastards but they are always game for a laugh.

1992/93 season - 2-2 draw iirc, Ling and Taylor i think it was on TV aswell.

Also had some cunt threaten to give us a shoeing a couple of years back, as the scum were playing away at Carlisle. We played Wycombe away but me and Ralph ended up missing the train and got cunted in Oxford, bad mistake  :?

Was around teh 90s but first away game alone was about 95 at a guess which was a eye opener.

The FA Cup game was one of my lowest points as a town fan having brought two cars from watford to watch it!

First one was in 1968 with both sets of fans standing in the Town End confronting each other with the police looking on from the track when a barrage of eggs was launched at the scum by the Swindon fans.
 
The next time we played them two seasons later things had gotten much worse. There was the incident of the milk float that drove into a confontration between the two mobs on County Road, the air was absolutely thick with flying milk bottles and the road covered in broken glass and milk.

it was 4th May 1982 ... Swindon 3 Oxford 2 .. Paul Rideout got a couple .. from what I can remember I was stood on the Stratton bank and got pelted by loads of 2p coins .. then someone chucked a 50p (more edges I guess).. BIG MONEY back then and as I was 9 at the time I was over the moon as that was pocket money for me back then!!!

Loads of trouble outside the ground too .. I remember me and my old man legging it down the Shrivenham road back to the car whilst chaos was breaking out around us!

1999 13 FEB Oxford United (Away) lost 2-0

i think it was in 96 and we dicked them 4-1 with a ty Gooden screamer.

Mine was the 1968 game as well - don't remember too much about the game but do remember that the only safe way to get to the game ( 13 at the time) was to meet up with my school mates at the College car park and walk mob handed to the ground ( down Groundwell Road and past the appropriately named Oxford Hotel ( now the Merlin) .

I'm going to go back in time and steal baby Ben, then go forward in time to 2033 and see if we're playing Oxford then. If we are then there's a possibility of there being 3 me's at the game. Now that would be amazing. Of course for the 3 Bens scenario to happen it requires:
a) for me to live until 2033
b) for me to gain the ability of time travel at some point in the future
c) there still to be an STFC in 2033
d) there still to be an OUFC in 2033
e) for Swindon to be playing Oxford that season

That's one hell of an accumulator.

Mine was the away game in 1968. At Easter. That was the season that Oxford got promoted. 0-0 draw, but it was a ground record crowd. There were people standing on the roofs of the stands, and up the floodlights. I stood on a wall for most of the game. Pretty amazing atmoshere from what I can remember

That was the first, and last.

I was sat in the Arkells, and at half time, a few Pox lads came wandering down the steps, clearly somewhat inebriated. One of them made the mistake of falling on one guys lap, so the STFC guy got up and gave him a whack. Cue stewards/police lining up and down the steps for the rest of the game.

I was actually with 2 other friends, my dad and bro for that game.

Scary.
