Title: Edward Wray Post by: red macca on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 14:01:53 Apparantly this is the bloke who we are in negotiations with in regards to the take over . He is the bloke who co founded Betfair but i think he sold it last year.
Worth around £200m according to the richlist. You lot probably heard this anyway just have not seen it posted anywhere Title: Edward Wray Post by: Luci on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 14:02:50 First I've heard of it so cheers Macca. Where you hear it though?
Title: Edward Wray Post by: yeo on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 14:18:28 Id only heard the Bet Fair thing that makes more sense to be honest.
Title: Edward Wray Post by: RobertT on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 14:28:38 Isn't he living in Australia? He was the one that tied up with Packer (who was rumoured a number of months back) to get Betfair into Australian markets I think.
Title: Edward Wray Post by: Batch on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 14:39:39 Guess that slots into place nicely then

there we go, the original rumour. So, Aspers is a UK based Casino/leisure complex owner and is part funded by Packer who in turn is a 50/50 partner with Betfair in Australia who were co founded by Edward Wray who also lives in Australia and someone once started an "he's Australian" rumour about the original proposed investor. I clearly went the wrong way down the 6 degrees of seperation route Title: Edward Wray Post by: Power to people on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 15:04:53 Wray is still non exec chairman of Betfair - so that is where the Betfair link comes in
Title: Edward Wray Post by: Nemo on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 15:05:38 Non Exec's tend to be just honoury roles though right, no actual control over the company?
Title: Edward Wray Post by: Sippo on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 15:06:48 So when Bob Holt said on the radio that they were local and had sport interests he was lying?

Maybe not. I don't think it's Wray. How many local businessmen do you know with sport interests? Title: Edward Wray Post by: McLovin on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 15:09:45 Dyson is the only one i know with any real money.

Title: Edward Wray Post by: red macca on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 16:37:07 Puffett is far from fucking loaded. The bloke has seen this club get deeper and deeper in debt over the years why would he wait until now when its more expensive to buy us?
Title: Edward Wray Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 16:39:29 It won't be Puffett.

Lowe has the prudent businessman's dread of debt and one of his favourite sayings is: "Once you get into debt, the bank manager comes into the club to run the team." thanks.....but no thanks rupert Title: Edward Wray Post by: Spencer_White on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 17:52:01 Not being funny. But Southampton fans hate Lowe, and he was a pompous twit. But they have always been a well run club, and their expectations are much higher than ours. He moved them to a fantastic idealy placed new stadium and they stayed in the Premiership for years.
Weve been an absolute shambles for 10 years and just come up from the basement. But I dont think for a second it is Rupert Lowe. I dont think anyone is seriously interested, not at £18 million. Its all about placating the fans at the moment. Once weve had a few good wins and everyone is calm again they will announce that its as you are, but were selling 6 players in January. Title: Edward Wray Post by: STFC Bart on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 18:16:34 Players will definately go in January if they are still here
Title: Edward Wray Post by: lebowski on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 19:48:16 i cant imagine sturrock would be too pleased to see the man that hung him out to dry at southampton come and get involved here.
