Title: vermin
Post by: genf_stfc on Monday, October 22, 2007, 11:53:14
no - not actually a post about the board...

was in bed last night when I hear all this scrabbling noise under the floorboards, in fact at one point sounded like something was trying to knaw its way though into the room (until I thumped the floor and it sounded like it ran off).  So pretty sure I've got mice, or even a rat.

Don't think its actually made its way into the house yet - haven't seen or smelt any crap, but i'd like to keep it that way.

bought one of those electric things you plug into the wall - says it 'uses a microchip to produce an invisible field that interferes with its nervous system' - which i am a bit ashamed about since that sounds like complete crap, but it was all i could find quickly this morning.

Anyone got any tips for getting rid ?  I have no qualms whatsoever about making it suffer, in fact if it had made it into sight it would have been on the receiving end of messrs gray and nichols.  I  suppose baiting is a bit pointless unless my neighbours also have a go, since i live in a terrace.

gent, where do you live? I have a guy I use who always gets them forst tiem around, normally costs between £60 - £70 however that is money well spent.  You get massive problems with rats in the old town and central areas of swindon

actually southampton now...

I think I can get the council to have a go, but you need to get at least 5 adjoining houses.

Did actually find a dead one in the garden a few months back, so someone nearby must be baiting, and as long as they crawl off, die and rot under someone elses floorboards i don't mind !

Good old fashioned mouse trap normally does the trick.

Had mice in my old house, they got into the eaves by running across the garage roof from nextdoor. Little bastards used to keep me awake scurrying around all night.

Put a trap up there, 5 minutes later heard a nice little 'snap' and slept soundly after that.

Fews years ago I had one come into to the kitchen through a tiny tiny hole next to the washing machine drain thingy.I chucked a Tennis Ball at it and killed it in one shot ,so get some Tennis balls :D

Rodbourne has a bit of problem due to the drains having collapsed apperenty, the Council Rat dude baited the drains and it all got eaten in a day.It fuckin freaks me out ,Rats scare the shit out of me..

Luckily ive not seen any since then though.

I heard the dogs in rodbourne are more dangerous than the rats! The owners who sent them on their pissed mates deserve locking up or being banned from the club

We have had terrible problems with mice as we have fields at the front and back of our house - one of the buggers bit through a plastic water pipe leading to our shower last year and caused a massive flood

- those plug in sonic things are the only things that seemed to have worked for us?? failing that get a ferral cat!

Weird this....I was having a chat to a mate in the pub last night, who has a mouse problem.....I'd just seen an ad for the plug in thing and thought it must be some sort of con.....but mentioned it anyway....he said he'd tried two, and it hadn't worked so far..

Is this the start of a plague....global warming, more rubboish on the streets,  people shiting in back alleys   , that sort of thing.....we're heading back to the Middle Ages.

last years mild winter can't have helped - I usually see at least two rats every morning when i walk across southampton common, so there are plenty of the little buggers about. with luck, one less soon though.
